Petracca is a flat out dominant player, he's the type of player that with good development at AFL level will score 160s in SuperCoach sides, he can take a mark, he's a long kick, very strong and very good athletically plus he's played as a forward for all of last year, which means he knows where the goals are. That said, he's still not a KPF. We badly need a KPF.
would we rather Dangerfield or Jeremy Cameron?

the mids are coming apparently. i think the top 3 might get a shake over the next month or so

wouldnt be surprised to see a mid get put in the pick 1 spot

the more i read and see of petracca i like, trade down and nab him at 3/4 and get a tomlinson type from gws for 1 would be good in my eyes

I wrote pretty much the same thing in the draft/trade thread today... I'd take it & run

Tomlinson & pick #3 to us ; Pick #1 to GWS

Alternative is trade pick #1 straight up for Tom Boyd/Jeremy Cameron

With Lachie Weller, I don't care if GC get him - if they do, they're idiots. The split second he's out of contract, he'll come straight to us to be with Maverick. As if he's going to want to stay that club that completely shafted his brother. Let them pay for his development over the first two years, and we can reap the rewards afterwards.
Is this speculative, or is there anything concrete to suggest that Lachie will have no interest in playing without Maverick?

Let's hope Mav tells Lachie Weller he only looks good in red, white and black. :D

As an academy player GC can bid for him can't they? If they get pick ~12 or so like it looks they'll almost certainly gun for him.

As for Wright vs. McCartin...

I don't like these lanky ruckmen that play forward like Daniher. I think Daniher will be very serviceable but the fact is, their pretty average at ground level (on elite stage), they have a high centre of gravity and their kicking for goal is invariably wonky. Even the great tall forwards tend to at least have proportionate limbs or even be tank-mode.

At first I wasn't too sure about McCartin because of the diabetes, but there have been other very successful athletes who have managed it well. I'm sure the clubs will be diligent with assessing his potential.

This is a much lesser point obviously, but Peter Wright is ugly as ****. McCartin is at least normal looking. This is going to be our next marquee player most likely, if we really can't split the two on talent then pick the one that isn't a gangly red-headed freak

Nope can't bid on him because he hasn't lived in Queensland long enough i think.

Yeah, just looked it up. You're right, not a zoned pick after all.

Still, that makes having such a high pick awkward because you have to throw away the chance to have players like these. At least with bad picks the decisions is taken out of your hands. Don't want a Gibbs or a Deledio!

Probably the dumbest thing i've read on this forum ever.

I'm pretty keen on young Connor Menadue...

A few jokes about 'another half back flanker' when his name popped up on the other thread, but he's played midfield this year and cut teams to ribbons with pace and precision skills...

http://boundforglorynews.com/2014-draft-profile-connor-menadue/
Connor Menadue (Western Jets)

Height: 188 cm
Weight: 69 kg
Position: Midfielder
Strengths: Explosiveness, match winner, clearance specialist, clean user
Areas of Improvement: Winning the inside ball, gaining muscle
Player Comparison: Ryan Griffen

That would be petracca at the moment based on current output.

To me Petracca reeks of being a man among boys, he's come DOWN from 96kg ffs (186cm) , . I'm no talent scout but I'd be really concerned that he'll go backwards when he plays against similarly sized men, and how big a tank he can develop lugging his ( current ) 90kg around.

If we're looking for a Rookie List-type mature tall forward - to replace Maister essentially - then Coburg's Lech Featherstone has snagged 26 goals in 11 games in a fairly ordinary side to lead the VFL goalkicking...

25yrs, 194cm, 96kgs... Great family (I know his sister)... So certainly not a dickhead...

No worse than any of our current options (bar Roo).

I think someone like that would be worth getting to hedge out bets, especially if we let Maister go.

sounds silly but kind of understood what Dunstall said about Saints taking the best young player in the draft. PW
But i hate his football opinion, don't mind him on bounce

Dunstall has built the machine that is Hawthorn. You NEVER trade away a number one pick EVER, unless it's the deal of a lifetime, and TBH Tomlinson doesn't come into that category. If a team wants it, pony up Travis Cloke, Trent Cotchin, Jeremy Cameron, Chad Wingard or Nat Fyfe, and then find me another top 10 pick otherwise get stuffed and we take the best junior in Australia. Whom that is will be debated until the draft, but it's a bloody good position to get carte blanche access to the player we want.

Re Petracca, he is Jack Billings height, we need a big unit who we can build a team around, IMHO of course.

Completely agree on Tomlinson he isn't the answer to our key forward problems. I don't rate him highly at all like some others do.

I think he's too big for his height. Probably a reason he won contested ball at Junior level. Then again Ollie wines is that size.
But Petracca has "dropped" 6 kg to get there.

Also we need a tall forward.

How about Patrick McCartin?
