I'm getting keener on the idea of a mid with round 1 and then a McKenzie, Keitel or Watchman with round 2... though Peter Wright looks very classy.
I just wish Metro would do us a bloody favour and play him up forward!
#12 Gold Coast (Via Compensation Pick from Geelong) – Christian Petracca (VIC – Fwd/Mid)
Height: 186cm, Weight: 92kg, DOB: 04/01/1996
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges
Style:
Player comparison: Stewart Crameri (less athletic)
Range: 5-30
Profile: Strong unit who is a real physically imposing marking presence up forward. Despite his limited height for his type he plays like a real key position player and just outbodies anyone in the TAC and also outmarks them thanks not only to that extra size on his frame but also his superior marking ability and ability to read the drop of the ball. At this level he hits the scoreboard like few others can with the way he takes over games and is just a manchild. Petracca also has the ability to play not only the deep forward role which he does so well but he can also play up the field both on a forward flank and on the ball so he does give you options. On the ball is where Petracca’s improvement has come this year as a guy who can win his own ball inside and be a monster around the stoppages but then also has shown that he has the smarts to find the time and space on the outside and find the uncontested ball which has been pleasing. To start his career I expect Petracca to play mostly forward whether that be deep or higher up the field but with time I expect Petracca to become more a rotational midfielder who splits his minutes between playing forward and on the ball.
Pick 4: Melbourne - Christian PetraccaPosition: Medium forward/midfielder
Height: 186 cm, Weight: 92 kg, DOB: 04/01/1996
Club: Eastern Ranges
Projected Draft Range: Top 10
Plays Like: Dustin Martin/Josh P Kennedy
Nicknamed ‘Quadzilla’, Christian Petracca’s game would lead you to believe that he’s a key forward because the stranglehold he puts on a game is unlike any other in the competition. Petracca is physically built for his age, and his development was fast-tracked further at the Ranges in 2013 when fellow forward Tom Boyd was sidelined for several months with an ankle injury. This made him a revelation as the Ranges stormed home to take the 2013 TAC Cup Premiership. Petracca is a man-child at 92 kilograms, but he plays taller than his 186 centimetres. Coming into the 2014 season as a late inclusion into the AFL-AIS side, it was widely regarded that Petracca would have to add another string to his bow to really become an elite player at the next level, and that’s what he’s done. Not to be pigeon-holed as forward, Petracca has since stamped himself as a legitimate midfielder, who has also played roles off half back. Since dropping six kilograms on his 2013 playing weight, Petracca is getting around the ground with ease and so far in the National Championships has displayed the ability to be a high-production midfielder, averaging 29 disposals at 75% efficiency, one goal, seven marks, four tackles, 5.5 clearances, 10 contested possessions and five inside 50s. Up forward, Petracca is rarely beaten. His body positioning is first class, and he edges his opponents under the ball using his backside and protecting the drop of the ball. His leading patterns are well driven, but it’s his scoreboard impact that is incredibly profound. He kicks goals from all angles, he gets depth and accuracy enough that you would back him in from outside 50, and is the type of player who can string together multiple goals in as many minutes to break a game open. Ultimately in terms of development I see Petracca as a Josh Kennedy type who could grow to become an elite inside midfielder who can rest forward and have an impact on the game.
Pick 13 - Gold Coast Suns
Christian Petracca (Eastern Rangers)
186cms
92kg
Powerful forward/midfielder in the Stewart Crameri mould and is spending more time in the middle this season for Eastern (21 possessions a game)
My issue with Petracca is a two-limb thing; is he a man among boys, and will he translate to a mid at senior level?Climb on the Petracca Express!
This is no ordinary train though - We are going full on Shanghei Maglev here!

Does anyone know anything about josh fox from tassie? Pretty impresive stats from a 197cm for/ruck

1st - Petracca
2nd - McKenzie
3rd - Webb
Rookie - Saad
Make 1 decent trade to secure another top 20-25 pick to grab a Corey Ellis type. Clear a few list spots to take some late picks and upgrade Shenton + Minchington...
Easy![]()
Petracca wins the Larke Medal...
He should, but he won't. I wouldn't take him with a 2nd rounder. As for Petracca, pass for mine, Wright or trade right now.Lamb'll slide to second round now, won't he?
I'd pick Petracca at pick 1 personally.

Similarly, a gun forward line will cover for a not so good midfield.Yes posted that 4 days ago on SS. A gun midfield will cover for a not so good forward line.

He was the one to impress me a lot more over Wright and McCartin and our midfield still isn't that good at all we need to build that as well.i'm with you mate. its a non-contest

Wright kinda did nothing in the 2 televised games. He is meant to have a big tank but he was no where near the ball when it wasn't a ball up. He was played up forward a bit more in the game today but it didn't result in anything. Pass for me.

SA's midfield today didn't have anything close to the star-power of the midfield of Metro, yet they won. Essendon have several A-Grade mids yet cannot kick a winning score. Geelong's midfield is somewhat average, but they have Tom Hawkins there toNot really if it doesnt get down there.
HF: Billings, Stanley, TempletonC: Blake Acres, Chritian Petracca, Jack Newnes
R: Tom Hickey, Jack Steven, Luke Dunstan
Either way good luck to our recruiters it's tough this year.

Yes because that is going to be our forward line set up isn't it.Give Wright an opportunity in the forward line, he is a very good KPF.

That's not near AFL standard. It's not close, but I do admit the midfield looks very, very good.
