I would say speed in all formats is important to the way the game is beginning to be played.

Speed of mind helps read the play, make good and quick decisions, help move the ball faster. Speed of foot helps move the ball faster and carry more ground.

These same elements can be said about the defensive aspects of the game. Someone who is fit and able to cover a lot of ground is good but someone who is quick can reach contests some may not be able to get to and apply more pressure, whether perceived or actual pressure, which is the hallmark of our game now. If you can pressure the opposition everytime they have the ballerina then you're more likely to impact their disposal and create a turnover.

Speed is important but no more important than a lot of other skills. Good quick decision making and elite disposal help negate the pressure being applied but if you're quick and use your pace I don't think there is any doubt about how important it can be for team success

Haha I said a little overrated. There's still a place for pace and line breaking players in the game; To get through and around zones and break down defences. But you can't beat a pin point a pass at speed to your teammates. It doesn't matter how fast you are you are never going to be as quick as the ball being kicked through the air. That's the best way to keep the ball going your way. And speedy players without skills are next to useless. Turn the ball over, miss simple shots at goal etc.

his top end is the best in the draft group IMO just consistency is the issue. he's also more of a forward pocket. if he can turn that qtr and a bit effort i saw over here against SA into a 4qtr effort week in week out, he'll be amazing

very very very good by foot, especially on goal. reads the play very well. reads the ball even better

This gives us a conservative 6 picks in the draft. I suspect there will be deeper cuts (Jones, Dunnell etc) but I'm looking at the bare minimum. Trades will also come into play.

1 - Petracca - Best in the draft.
21 - McKenzie - Best KPF
39 - Daniel - Worth the risk
57 - Conlon - So is this guy
75 - Shenton (Upgrade) - Obvious
93 - Minchington (Upgrade) - Obvious

PSD - Jacksh - Offer decent coin and force him here.

Rookie - Saad - Deserves to come home.

That's 3 KPP, 1 elite mid/forward, 1 elite (if small) wingman and a returning Saad as a leading small option. Thats being really conservative I feel. With Jones, Gwilt, Joey, Gilbert, Armo etc all up in the air anything could happen really.

Really? His talent is elite. Like, top 10 elite.

Lewis Taylor was talked about as a top 10-15 pick and is making a few teams look silly because of fear over his 'size' issues.

I aware of Conlons injury issues but not really sure if there are any other talks worth taking there.

Guess we could grab a mid with our 3rd and Daniel with our 4th in that plan. Assuming we have Jacksh of course

Agree definitely on Conlon with how injury-prone he is, doubt he'll be taken by any club really. Next year perhaps if he can have a full injury free season.

Didn't bother with any possible trades/FA/PSD because who knows what magic Pelchen and Co will weave. Like yours that leaves us with 6 picks:

1 - McCartin - Apparently the club rates him and I like him over the others.
21 - Best avaliable - No idea who, we might get lucky with a slider or something?
39 - Daniel - Easily worth it and I would be pissed if we missed out on him. Sorry Rahul.
57 - Weller upgrade
75 - Shenton upgrade
93 - Minchi upgrade

Rookie - Saad - I did originally think Saad might be worth a senior list slot but I have changed my mind and can't see it happening.

That leaves us with 1 Key forward, ???, a potential great small forward or wingman and a bunch of what I think are reasonable upgrades to rookies allowing us to bring in some more. Add in a dash of trading wizardry and we could have another very successful off season.

He’s showing this year that he can win his own ball and is also a very lively tackler through the midfield. He has some real pace but his real point of difference is his footskills. With ball in hand Duggan is all class using it well on his left foot, doing damage with his precision kicking and vision to see the best targets up the field ultimately more often than not making the right decision. He hits targets both over short and long distances so you want the ball in his hands. He also has an above average burst of speed and some linebreaking ability. Duggan has excellent ability down back to read the ball in the air and take the intercept mark. As a December birthday and with his strong continued development there is lots of improvement left.

Sounds good to me. Knightmare has him going at #7, I know that was done pretty early on but why would he slide that far? Did he have a bad champs or something?

Had him at #7 but now said he thinks he'll go in the 2nd round, asked Brett Anderson as well he said similar.

Played back flank at the Champs, but he's a midfielder for mine. A gem of a midfielder.

Duggan one of the better ball users in the draft. Harrison Wigg another that may interest The Pelican.

Leg speed is great, if you have the skills to go with it.... Just ask Geelong's Kane Tenace. Could run 100m in under 11 seconds, but couldn't hit the side of a wheat silo if he tried.

I'd prefer to have the Cyril Rioli type speed anyway - Quick decisions, quick ball mover, uses his leg speed in short bursts (mostly to save his shot hammies, but even that hasnt saved them lately), intent pressure layer, prolific tackler
