It's been a few days since I've said this so I may as well randomly say it again, Alex Urban thanks Saints staff. Everyone is talking about the young talent and reshuffling the top 20 (where does Petracca go now? is Peter Wright no longer a top 1 or 2 pick?) meanwhile everyone mentions Urban as a pick in the 30's, 40's or 50's while he dominates for the Chargers.

Man I hope we get him with our 3rd pick.
Am i reading wrong? (I think i'm missing the point haha)

"Alex Urban thanks Saints staff."?

Please get Alex Urban, thanks Saints staff. I'm a bit delirious tonight so I may not be making sense haha.
Oh..... I thought you meant Alex Urban thanked the saints staff (I was wondering why he thanked the saint staff). :p

That is gonna be hard when we are taking Daniel with our 3rd. :p

We might need a few more picks in the 20-40 range...

We can't just "go" Jaksch in the PSD.

1st - he nominates a move back home.
2nd - GWS try and work the best deal they can
3rd - Jaksch explores all possible trade destinations.
4th - Trade is made.

It's how we got Delaney & Bruce & Longer. There may have been an implied threat to use the PSD, but it didn't eventuate.

Do you reckon Carlton, Demons & Bullies won't be offering up a princely sum for him in a trade?

Last year only Jed Lamb went via the PSD - with Sydney & GWS were at loggerheads.

We will need to trade for him IMO.
He's out of contract.

He is not bound to GWS in any way shape or form.

He CAN, if he chooses to, allow them to trade him. They CAN, if they choose to, delist him as an open free agent (a la Roberton) - which I highly doubt they'll do. OR, they can let him go, and throw him to the wolves that is the PSD. If they do that, we'll pick him with our #1 PSD pick. Simple.

He is a very valuable commodity to GWS though Perse. Watch Richmond do something stupid like offering up Pick 8 for him. They would take that in a heratbeat. So then its up to the boy. Would he rather earn an extra $50k per year over 4 to go to the Saints, or earn a bit less and go to a finals bound (ha ha) Tigers? not such a simple decision for him either.

True, except we have a helluvalot more salary cap than other teams. There are also questions of role and game time.

Jakshe would be virtually guaranteed starting 22 next year. Our low use of salary cap would allow us to front end his contract significantly. Even if Richmond do offer the GIANTS a nice juicy deals, their influence over what JAKSHE decides is little more than begging for a favour. They might say, "PLEASE Jakkie boy, PLEASE!? We REALLY want the Tiggers' pick 8! PLEASE!? They'll give you a REALLY nice deal!" But if he ends up saying, "Well, the Saints have offered a better one, so NO!", well that's the end of it.

I really hope we use this PSD pick 1 clause to bend GWS over, they did it last year with Jed Lamb and they've been hoarding talent for 2 or 3 years, surely we can throw 300,000 - 400,000 at some young talented kid for free like them.

I agree, and i hope we do get him via PSD...i have been banging on about utilising PSD Pick 1 for months. As you say, the key is to get in his ear early and dangle the carrot

If we are going to use $ to try to lure kids to the club it wont be $50k a year it will be much more than that. Think of it as effectively buying draft picks. If the AFL was going to auction off draft picks how much would you spend to buy pick 12? I don't think $300-450k would be unreasonable.

We will have to put an offer for Jaksch. We can't simply say in trade week "by the way we are taking Jaksch in the PSD. What do you want for O'Rourke?" Bridges will be burnt. With the Lamb deal an offer was on the table however it was totally unreasonable so Sydney effectively told GWS to get stuffed and take him for free. We could offer a 3rd rounder for Jaksch and they will likely tell us to get stuffed as well.

Pick 1 for Pick 3, O'Rourke and Jaksch. :D:D

Alright being more serious, Jaksch apparently has interest from Carlton, Western shitdogs and Hawthorn according to an article that was released the other week.

Agree. If we really want to lure talented players we will likely need to pay way overs. Offer a player who's market price is 250k a year 350-400k a year over three.

There was an article stating Carltank are after two GWS players as well. Sounds like O'Rourke and Jaksch. They could offer their first pick for both?

They can offer their first pick to GWS but it doesn't mean anything unless both players want to go to Carlton and both players will have plenty of interest from all Victorian clubs.

Yeah fair call probably don't want to burn any bridges I just get frustrated with the two expansion teams.

Either way I wouldn't be getting too carried away with guys like Jaksch and O'Rourke, not overly keen on giving up draft picks for unproven players. For someone who's already a gun like Shiel maybe but not for guys who aren't getting consistent AFL games.

We should be looking at the other not well known talent they have i mean look at Miles for example.

Golds and Whiley come to mind, would probably get them pretty cheap and could be just suffering from all the talent GWS have.

Hawthorn is linked to bloody EVERYONE!!

I know shifting Buddy gives them a fair chunk of free cap space, but how the hell do they fit them all in?

FA really is going to screw the poor clubs.
I was the one-man Whiley bandwagon last trading season. Not getting a game, but he's the bull at a gate we want Ross to be. He's a great size, a tackling machine and will never take a backward step; dare I say it, but would be a handy part-replacement for Lenny...

Would be a great get for us.
