for the mccartin lovers, heres an article about him from last year, including video highlights of his 5 goals against WA:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-07/vic-country-forward-called-into-aisafl-squad

didnt realise he was the one who broke sheeds collarbone
I like Mc Cartin but my worry is he's a bit too similar to Tommy Lee. Good size for a third tall. He might be a bit of a Fev but I'm worried he could be a bit old fashioned for the modern game. One speed average height key marking forward.

sounds like you have the same view as me. my worry is when he gets to AFL level he'll be too slow and not have any really attributes to make it as a dangerous fwd

people forget players like g train, cloke when drafted were pretty athletic and quick. were playing AFL successfully before bulking up and dominating

Gehrig was 195cm and Cloke is 196cm too.

McCartin has good speed and magnificent body positioning on the lead, but doesn't appear to be particularly athletic in general, and those blokes had/have athleticism AND size on him.

I think he'll be a very very good player, and I'd be very happy with him at the club, but I do have my concerns. That being said, if we pick him I want him to get #4.

FFS you're talking about 1 or 2 cms
Height argument is overstated. It's a bees d!ck!

i think what it highlights is regardless of size you need some attribute that you can use to your advantage, i just dont see what it is with mccartin. lacks a leap, lacks the agility of say a lee that is very good when the ball hits the deck or when he needs to turn. dont see the speed on the lead either.

its just me, but i dont see what he has that will allow him to make it against a grade opponents

No doubt, but in a similar vein to what Big D said, if you're on the shorter side you need that extra 'something' and Paddy's fantastic ability in terms of his positioning and body strength will be less effective at AFL level where the defenders are just as big and strong as he is.

It's that which makes his relative lack of height proportionately more of an issue than it would normally be, despite his clear talent.

Seen on twitter someone who watched him yesterday said the club that picks Petracca better have strong leadership around him.

Not sure if he did something stupid or not..

Please delete that post before Barrels sees it. Getting that excited would be bad for his health.

Averaging 9 goals a game over the last 3 weeks... Move over Paddy... ;)

A poster in the TAC Cup 2014 thread posted this yesterday:

Disappointing scenes at Avalon today. Players harassing an injured player and pushing him to the ground several times whilst he was on his knees in obvious pain with a leg injury and the ball nowhere nearby. Caused a melee in the end. A TAC heavy hitter at the ground saw the incident so hopefully he and others will make sure this doesn't happen again. They also need to investigate the use of over zealous tagging tactics (think bearhug at stoppages) which needs to be frowned upon as well. Neither issues a great look for the TAC.

That would be from the game Petracca was playing in. I wonder if Petracca was involved?

Might be.

You'd hope it wouldn't be though pretty floggish thing to do.

One might have something to do with the other...

Remember we are still dealing with kids, and we've seen adult player respond pretty excessively to over-the-top tagging tactics...

If Lenny wasn't retiring would Petracca still be the flavour of the month for many of you on here. Or is he now the clear standout number 1 and we should go best available.
I like that he is a tank mid who can kick goals and also dunk a basketball but that is just me. Don't know why but i'm just not getting that feeling of excitement and possibilities when watching any of the Key forwards this year. (maybe if they played wright more in the forward line this would be different)

Paddy is more Tex than Tom.

(Walker v Lee that is)

McCartins special attribute is that he is a one grab mark with vice like hands, is built like an oversized OX and is still growing.
He could be anything in 3 years, he's the closest thing I have seen to Tony Lockett, who remember was only 191cm.
Agree with you Bri-man, but it was a very different landscape back in 1987...
