Why would Hawthorn do that trade? 2 draft picks ain't gonna help them in the next 2 years as much as Bruest is. They're in there window now...
Helps their future a heap!

Hell, flip one of those picks for a player.

As if GWS really offered that. Can't see it happening

Very soft from the Saints.

Pick 1 guarantees nothing! Rather multiple picks for multiple chances at success

Tom Scully was once the best thing since sliced bread.....
How did Nick Riewoldt and Goddard go for us?

You don't give away the best 18 y.o player in Australia for 4&7.

If we don't get what we want I am happy to pick up Petracca.

Who knows the offer of 4,6,7 existed. I'd rather be strong and keep pick 1 if they aren't happy with a deal than reluctantly trade it.

Yes thats spot on. How much would it hurt if we gave up pick 1 and got spuds instead and Petracca became the next Hodge ?

I get that (4/6/7 in that draft was HORRIBLE)

But the talent identification is getting better. There are much more better players in the top 10 going. Plus, your own development comes into play. jack watts would be a star if not for Melbourne's inability to develop a young player. For every star #1, there are 2 duds.

Plus, we aren't doing a freo and trading it for mature players. We are trading it for other picks. How do we not know that we aren't set on #1 and rate the top few pretty closely...

Drafting is hit and miss. More tickets in the draw, the better

Roo and BJ were daylights ahead of others in their draft year, Petracca isn't.
bj showed nothing for about two years.

Petracca will be an excellent midfielder, especially with Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Armo and Steven, plus whatever we get @ 21 and 22

Anyway how does 4 and 7 guarantee anything. Luke Livingstone was a No 4,

its all a gamble, but a lower risk @ pick 1

But there is a natural top 3. Getting 4Th pick as our first pick is a big gap.
There is no natural nothing. There are no guarantees. That is my sole point.

Most of it comes down to how you develop them and use them. Petracca is not a lock to play 200 games and win a BnF etc.

Just saying, I'd rather have 2 hits at it than 1
