Recruiting team were true to their word, we would accept overs for pick 1 but we weren't going to just give it up either. It's been a privilege to contribute to these 1000+ pages with you all.

The reason I would have traded 1 is as follows

With all the aggressive talk on trading pick 1, to now say no to everything, means that the pressure on #1 is really high. We are effectively saying that 2 picks inside 10 isn't as good as whoever we take. Do you not think the impending CONSTANT comparisons between Petracca and whoever GWS take won't have an impact?

I'd rather be judged on the 2-3 players we would have gotten opposed to just the 1.

Because you could also claim that whoever you got at 4, was who you targeted at 1 and nobody would be any wiser - it's a win/win - at least for the sake of the mental state of the kids involved.
But then it goes the other way as well. If pick 4 and 7 don't perform like pick 1.

We wanted way overs.

GWS have killed this again. 4, 6, 7, 23, 2 pre-selections, Patfull and Griffen. Not bad. They lost a bit obviously with Boyd, JOR, Frost etc. But it may actually help spread their age profile.
How many players do they need to ditch to use all those picks though?

You seem to be constantly contradicting yourself…
You are saying we are weak for worrying about what the media might think, then in your next post worried about what the CONSTANT comparisons will be like.

I'm sure we had a measure of what we would take to give up pick #1 and it didn't come.

We now have the first pick in the country - likely to be a superstar, let's move on.

I don't blame the club one bit for not doing the 4 & 7 deal. If you analyse the draft you will see there is only three top end, high production & ball winning midfielders - Petracca, Brayshaw & Heeney (unavail). Moving from pick 1 to 4 & 7 would mean we miss out on the 'sure thing' ball winners & pluck speculative midfielders that are very low-production & don't win enough footy - Laverde, Weller, Pickett etc, or speculative talls that come with a high risk of being unsuccessful AFL players.

At this point in our re-build we cannot take risks & especially need to nail our first selection. Petracca I suspect will be the best from the draft however even if he isn't his 'bust factor' is extremely low & I'm confident he will be a 200 plus game player for our club.

Its no point even speculating on picks 4, 6 & 7 for 1 because that deal was never on the table. A lesser negotiator would've bent over for 4 & 7 for 1. Not the Pelican.

It sounds as though picks 4 and 7 for pick one was the only offer GWS made, and the club clearly didn't believe this was the "way overs" pick that they believed was needed for us to do a trade. So I think we did the right thing by refusing that offer and keeping pick one. We couldn't get 1 for 4/6/7 because it was never on the table, so I think we have done the right thing.

The only trade we did I would give an A, B+ at worst. Also kept pick 1 and didn't lose any of Steven, Armo, Montagna, Gilbert, Fisher etc.

I understand the frustration, particularly from blokes who have spent eh past 2 weeks refreshing footy websites waiting for a big move, but overall I think we played this well.

Has Schneids officially been cut? And wasn't Weller upgraded too?

Ah, but all you do on day one when announcing,k say, mccartin at 4 is a simple "we had rated him as the best". relieves all pressure.

they can believe it or not, but its on the record and cant be proven otherwise

kids these days are piss weak - i'd be doing everything to minimize pressure

dogs made a ballsy move, we got cold feet.

Very disappointing - in a draft where isn't a stand out No 1 we've held onto it. Don't know what the final offers were but if someone tells me we rejected 1 & 21 for 4,6 & 7 or something similar I'll go into meltdown mode.
