I tried to stay on the bandwagon but Petracca just kept dominating and made it impossible not to want him. Paddy still the next guy I would take but after CP.
Lies!

Even when the TAC Cup season finished for CP you loved McCartin. :p

September 3

I'm with you. When using pick 1 on a mid you expect class and Petracca isn't that. He's got a lot going for him but he doesn't scream "pick 1" to me.

If we are hellbent on a mid I'd definitely trade down to around pick 6-10 and grab Weller. Less productive mid than Petracca but a lot more damaging.

You've changed man.

I remember all your love posts for Patrick McCartin.

i think this is the draft where everyone would have changed seats probably a dozen times. i know i went from:
wright -> mccartin -> wright -> pickett -> durdin -> petracca and thats where i am now. only to be questioning it now

So I cant have an opinion?

Why in ****s name get rid of Stanley? Why pick up a KP when we have Riewoldt for another two years, why resign Tom Lee?

We are crying out for a quality midfielder, but we are going to go for some middling KP who wont be any good for five years if he ever is at all.

But hey attack me because I dont slavishly follow every stupid decision these clowns make.

Of course McCartin will be the right decision, because the Saints made it
Im with Joffa on this. If they take McCartin on thursday. Im gona loose my sh%t so hard at this club.
Mate f%#k this blind faith sh$t.
Who says McCartin is gona be a gun forward. Not only that. Theres so many other factors to consider in the game. Where the games heading.
Not taking Racca will cost the club not only embarresment but memberships too.

Good points and all can be used to better effect for midfielders.

There is only one Jeremy Cameron so getting him may prove impossible. But one of Sheil, Treloar, WHE could be shaken from the tree alot easier.

Ill say it again - I would pick Petracca. I think he is the best player in the draft.

Think like a recruiter though. We cant bank on getting an elite KPF through trading or FA. On the other hand mids are more common and would come cheaper.

We expect to finish low again next year in a draft with elite midfield talent at the top end. We can get our 'Petracca' next year.

We have holes all through our list and this is may well be a 50/50 choice. Given the abilty to get mids is significantly easier (through drafting, yrades and FA) it makes logical sense to pick McCartin and stock up on mids as we go.

So I ask again - Given we cant rely on hypothetical trades or FA signings, what do you think our forward setup looks like come 2020 if we take Petracca?

FF - Membrey Petracca Longer
HF - Templeton White Lee

Answer the question with honesty... All those trying to convince themselves

Who out of the two is the most likely to succeed?

Talls, historically have been hit and miss in the draft, especially those who have question marks... Which I believe McCarten has, his a athleticism is a big concern IMO and lack of positional flexibility... What if he can't handle AFL full backs? Where does he play? What's his tank like? Why is he overweight?

If CP struggles midfield (unlikely since his junior record outstrips Dunstan by heaps) he could play fwd... If he can't get a kick fwd... He could go to the easiest position on the ground and play HB

It's not line ball IMO

It's obvious

I have wright in front of McCarten too, and Brayshaw his equal

We've had the best CHF of the modern era and unable to win a flag.

Forward lines win games, Midfields win premierships.

Just look at Hawthorn, they won the flag with Roughead and Gunston as their key forwards, meanwhile Sydney had Franklin, Tippett and Reid but couldn't get it to them.

Future CHF options
White

Future FF options
Lee
Bruce

Future 3rd tall options
Membrey
Markworth
Siposs

We could do with another developing key forward option, hopefully we can pick up Lamb or McKenzie. Plus don't forget Petracca is capable of holding down a forward line role if we suffer injuries.

FFS Ball was always ahead of Judd at that draft, Judd was expected to drop to us at 5.
Hawthorn were tossing up between Ball and Hodge

Bullshit. Ball already had OP and was expected not to play at all in his first year.

With the benefit of hindsight, seeing what happened with Ball/Judd, we are again going to let a quality midfielder go.

and if Petraccas hips are chronic (Nathan Vardy) and Trout takes McCartin he's a genius. 20/20 hindsight

Probably not as much as Petracca but that's expected for a KPF.

Still want CP over PM everyday of the week.

Will back the club either way - as always.
I agree, unfortunately I have backed the club all the way to a 27th wooden spoon.

Time to get it right and not stuff up No.1
