Yet still played well.
How many AFL players have had a good year, or a bad year, then gone back to normal.
You are suggesting that we should limit the evaluation of a player's future potential to one season, or finals series.
As someone else pointed out, some of these kids have been on the radar since they were twelve.
Just want best available which 99.99% of people who know a whole lot more then me have been saying for a long time that is Petracca

I can't believe that no one is talking about Dean Gore.

People seem keen on ANB (and hey, I like him too) as he's an inside mid with a monster tank, but Gore is a beast of a kid at 183/86, like ANB has mixed it with senior players at SANFL level with aplomb and is surprisingly adept on the outside.

Where ANB runs a 15-plus beep and sub-10 minute 3km however, Gore runs 'only' a 14-or so beep, but a sub-3 second 20mtrs. He's more a burst player than a grinding runner like ANB, and had a top-10 standing vertical jump.

He's a beauty.

Yeah but do they know better than the StKilda drafting experts?
If 99% of the people thought the world was flat would it make the 1% wrong?

The other thing we are overlooking is that Elshaugh & Bains were both involved in recruiting Lee and White to fill the key forward roles. For them to overlook the best 18 y/o midfielder in the country they are basically suggesting that they got both earlier picks wrong and that neither will make it as a key forward.

What about Josh Bruce - AR has said he believes he will make it as a key forward.

McCartin plays full forward to my knowledge he has not played further up the ground, so why is he being considered the next Reiwoldt?

How can any one suggest there wont be other tall forwards available in coming drafts - thats ridiculous!

We dont need more developIng key forwards we need A Grade game breaking midfielders!

So you are telling me mids at pick 21 and 22 are judged as good as Petracca and Brayshaw? OK then
No I didnt. Read my post again. The rankings from about 10-20 are very even so we can be confident in getting very good midfield options with picks 21 and 22.

ANd now you want me to tell you who will be available in four years? Ever heard of FA or DFA or the PSD or trading?
No im not but that's the point. We cant rely on these avenues to build our next premiership. They should be used to top off a list that is close to the premiership window.

And I did not lambast the club for signing Lee and Riewoldt, I asked why sign Lee, why get rid of Stanley and why pick a KP when we have the best forward in the game for the next two years.

What other positions can McCartin play if he is getting thumped at FF? Can he ruck, play in the mids, down back?

Why is he overweight? Is his incurable condition under control? Why is he often injured?

What is the hurry to get a risky KPP when we need a quality mid who can probably score more goals than McCartin if moved forward.

What a load of bollocks. Talls are much more likely as being busts, see Scully, Watts, Kruezer as recent busts as No.1.
We re-signed Lee because his best form was very good. Injury has held him back but the club are giving him a chance.

We traded Stanley because we got a great deal. Look at the value placed on guys like Giles and Ryder and compare those deals with Stanley.

As for Roo - Its a great time to get an elite KPF in because they can learn from him. Why would you wait until Roo was gone?

There' s no 'hurry' to get a KPF. Im merely pointing out that if we want an elite KPF option then we can lock McCartin in now.

Why risk rolling the dice that free agents will choose us?

I dont know the ins and outs of Patty's health conditions. How bad is Petracca's hip? Is it chronic?

As for pick 1 being a bust - Why stop with pick 1? Are you saying that if McCartin went to Melbourne at pick 3 he would be a better player?

But hey, thats my opinion and only true believers like you can have an opinion.

The rest of us can all **** off to other clubs hey?
Now that we are starting to talk about the players it's fine.

My issue was that you were getting ready to turn your back on the club based on them picking a player in the draft you dont rate.

That, to me, is poor form. Even more so from someone who has been following the Saints for 50 years.

Im not saying you have to blindly agree with everything the club does. I would pick Petracca. I think he is the better player.

What im trying to do here is put forward a case for Patty McCartin because there is every chance the club picks him.

We might not like it. We might not agree with it. But there IS a very good case to be made for McCartin being the better option for the club long term.

We need to get in the mindset that we are building a list to peak in 2020 and beyond.

Just saying

"McCartin first made a splash at the 2013 National Championships for Vic Country, kicking five goals from 11 marks in the loss to South Australia at Simonds Stadium. While the world was talking about soon to be number one pick Tom Boyd, draft enthusiasts were quick to think ahead to 2014 and it’s for that reason now why McCartin sits, for some, as their number one pick. Although he crashes packs, throws his weight around and is known to clunk some spectacular pack marks, McCartin is a smiling assassin, an aerial threat, a contested-marking monster and a player who’ll take you to the cleaners if you allow him to play one-out in the square."

Either way I'm not fussed - they are both excellent prospects

LOL you need to RELAX brother.
Stop jumping down peoples throats .
I wasnt singling you out and i wasnt JUST talking about McCartin.
Im talking about how i find it amusing that a few of us NOT JUST YOU have rubbished some of these quality kids as we sit at our keyboards with one hand shoved inside a bag of doritohs while scratching our fat hairy guts saying "that kid is lazy &crap"
Cool no worries, bit touchy after being told by a flog to **** off and support another team.

For the record, I dont think any kids is soft or lazy etc, any AFL quality player is none of those.

We tend to build up our recruiters as supermen. Brereton reckoned Pelchan's genius was a myth.

Make no mistake I will support McCartin, but will be extremely disappointed we didn't bag Petracca and allowed him to waltz over to Mellbourne

I hate other teams!
Don't care who we pick, either way we're gonna have a bonafide gun with either of Petracca or McCartin.

Anyone know how bad Petracca's hip issues are? I heard mentioned in an article that it will delay preseason & possibly a round 1 debut

Petracca was one of the twelve players who had additional medial assessments done. If we do pick Paddy, he might've had worse injuries than first though. Worried that it's a Selwood, Judd type scenario.

Or perhaps his hips are THAT bad that we feel confident he is available still at 21!

Seriously though, reading the going places articles on both Petracca and Paddy, I really warmed to Paddy as a person, much more than Petracca. I'm still happy with either as I trust the recruiters, I just hope we don't try on hard to replace Rooey

Petracca has a face for membership cards. I don't know I'd want to carry McCartins face around in my wallet.
Why not post a photo of yourself so we can all judge and also maybe send it to Paddy so he can also have a say?

Sorry but this crap about how players look is completely ridiculous and stupid.

Especially considering the quote that some of his testing wasn't up to the standard of a pick one - is that medical testing or combine testing.

And Kim Kardashian thought SHE'D be the one to break the Internet!!! o_O
