Don't underestimate the power of pick 1 in the PSD. We don't often see it used on high quality talent but its often used as a bargaining tool. I fully expect the Pelican to burn a few bridges over the next few years and use the PSD to good effect.
I expect the Pelican to fly high and shit down on a few clubs over the next couple of draft periods. Hopefully by 2017 the Pelican is hated by the opposition clubs for scooping up some of their players will his big (dollar) bill.

this is why i am concerned about how good JOR actually is. if you ignore him being selected at pick 2 and just look at the output i'm not sure he's worth much. i mean look at this:
Toby Greene was terrific in the NEAFL having 40 possessions. It's great to have our NEAFL players putting pressure on for spots.
JOR struggles to break 30. his good games around the mid to high 20s

On shiel/patton/boyd/cameron/who ever i think we need to be patient here. Finnis said it himself a couple weeks back when he comments on cameron, basically said no we wont chase him now, we'll wait for next year and then get him as a FA

its common sense, right now we'd have to pay a premium for contracted players, wait for them to fall out of contract. spend the year, with ameet or pelch in their ear. play the long game and keep the picks this year!!! we'll be shit next year too, could threaten the PSD as well. also have that year to maybe improve the price on some of our other players we'd be willing to part with, as steak knives

Keep Pick 1 and throw the cash at O'Rourke + Jaksch to attract both of them, that's what i would do..

Jaksch seems the perfect swingman type that we need.

did jacksch re-sign? he would be more attainable probably for a player swap or 2nd rounder. preferably a player, given the amount of rookies worthy of elevation

Defacto you're better than that. Since when do possession count mean whether a player is good or not?

Yeah, I am inclined to think this is the way to go. If we heavily front loaded both of their contracts to attract them and price out competitors we could still have plenty of space left for FA's in 2016/17. We get two promising young kids with a couple years development without costing us any draft picks and all it really costs us is some cap space we weren't going to be spending anyway.

The main problem is attracting them to us, we can pretty much guarantee greater opportunities but they will also be coming to a team at the bottom end of the ladder when they might be able to go to more successful teams.

If we could get Jacksh, and JOR plus a pick or two extra in the 20-40 range I would be pretty happy.

After previously thinking it was an extreme long-shot, I'm starting to think that we might be a serious shot at a PP now. Probably not at the start of the first round, but possibly in the middle of it, or more likely, at the end of it/start of the 2nd. If we don't win another game I think we'd have a strong case, especially given how few high draft picks we've had in recent years.

1st draft pick?

Whether it be 1st or 2nd I agree with others and believe this is the year to trade it out for a top rated player and lessor picks. I just dont see the value in this years group they are well below the standard of last year IMO!
Ideally, we trade our first pick for a gun, then somehow trade to get a pick in the top 8 as their does not seem like their is a lot of difference between 1 and 8 anyway... Sounds good in theory.

You speak of these 20 but don't name anyone, I think we are all open minded here and I'd personally like to hear who you think the 20 are that won't be on the list
Here is the full list of players and I have marked those that in my opinion will not be at the club in 2016. Either too old, not good enough. Some I have marked unlikely or unknown but as you can see it is nearly half the list

5 Shane Savage
6 Sebastian Ross.
7 Lenny Hayes. Out
8 Trent Dennis-Lane. Out

I'm a lover, not a fighter
say we get jacksch, means we get happily let fisher and even gwilt go via FA. use dempster more as spare man in defence or off HBF. i like it!!!!
Not to mention it means we got Lee, Wright and Saunders for free. Daylight robbery.

IMO, can only have 1 of Dempster & Gwilt in 2015.

My ideal back 6 is:
JWebb, Delaney, Gwilt
Shenton, Jaksch, Savage

Doesn't bode well for Simpkin, Fish, Gears.
Roberton and Dempster become depth.
Acres, Wright, Gilbert, Newnes, better learn to play thru the middle

I see Dempster, Gears, Newnes, Wright, Arces, Bruce and throw someone in like Jaksch all a head of Gwilt next year. He has been a good soldier for us but if we are to improve he is no more then a depth/ fringe player next year

i'm just worried that he might not be much chop. game is littered with people who absolutely dominated in the NEAFL, their value was inflated and they ended up not being much at their next club

we currently have one on our list ;-)

i understand he is highly rated, went at pick 2 but yeh i'm not going to read much into his NEAFL form
