I was more thinking of the fact that you would need pick 1 AND 2 ;)
But you can take more than one person in the PSD assuming all the other clubs pass on them right?

That quote from Finnis would suggest to me that we could do something like this (I'm making up numbers here but you get the idea):
JOR - Market worth $300k/year over 3 years but the Saints offer $450k/year over 3 years. GWS wont match it and JOR goes into the PSD and we get him.
Jaksch - Same deal here except instead of just GWS not matching all other teams don't match and we get him with pick 19 in the PSD.

For $900k ($450k above the market price for each player) we just bought players taken at pick 2 and 12 in the national draft. On top of that, we probably wouldn't have used that cap space any way and I think new equlisation and TPP rules include the AFL helping us pay for some of it.

I'm not expert on any of this so am I missing some obvious reason why this couldn't happen?

When nominating for the PSD as I understand it a player can nominate their terms, not the club.
I think you would be kidding yourself to think other teams wouldn't pay as much..

It won't come to that though, SOS is possibly the best list manager in the game and GWS are seemingly intent on looking after their kids, deals will be done to get those who want to leave to where they want go wherever possible..

Pretty easy to be a good list manager when you've got a thousand first rounders to work with.

Yeah, the player nominates terms and not the club. But this is where paying overs comes into it - we pay enough that others aren't willing or able to pay and get them with our second PSD pick.

I doubt we would get both of them via the PSD because you have to get both of them to want to come here (even if they can't nominate they still must want to come to the club) and as you said GWS does look after their players so might deal anyway. But I don't think we will be wanting to do much in the way of trading if we can get away with it, especially for what it would take to get those two.

If it comes down to a bunch of cap space we weren't going to use and giving up our second pick for Jakcsh why wouldn't we use the cap space instead?

If you want to know about Jordan Kelly PM me.
Love to BS but you limit who can access your profile, and no probs with that; can you at least tell me why we would be interested in this boy? Surely we have so many HBF's, unless he can play as a large mid or outside mid with divine skills and decision making and is being played out of position.

Jordan Kelly

191cm/85kg

Pick 38 in 2011 (Pick straight after we took Jack Newnes)

Hawks website bio:
"At 191cm, Kelly is in some ways similar to Ben Stratton: a mid-sized defender capable of playing on talls or smalls and of providing rebound from defence. In 2013, the former Dandenong Stingray continued to develop his game, playing in Box Hill’s VFL premiership. Entering his third year on the Hawks’ list, he will be aiming for an AFL debut."

Be interesting to see how it plays out, don't be surprised if one or both re-sign in the next few weeks
