So Longer, Hickey, Stanley and now Holmes appear to be ahead of Pierce in the pecking order, I'm not saying we trade/delist him it's only his 2nd year but geez, gotta be hard to motivate yourself with that tall order in front of you. Picking up Longer and Holmes 12 months ago has just put him back a fair way and all of a sudden one of our weaker areas (Ruck) has become pretty solid now. He can't really have any trade value either as he hasn't even played a game yet.

Petracca first, daylight at pick 2,3 and 4, McCartin at the next pick after that. Pick Gary Ablett Jnr over Jack Reiwoldt, Petracca is that good.
As good as I think Paddy may end up being, if its me managing the list we go:

Out: Lenny Hayes (ret.), Beau Maister (ret.), James Gwilt (FA), Trent Dennis-Lane, Clint Jones, Sam Dunell, Cam Shenton (R)

Draft:-
1st Round: Christian Petracca
2nd Round: Reece McKenzie (or equivalent 'beast' KPF, not a skinny type; we need a presence down there)
3rd Round: Lukas Webb (or equivalent; outside run and elite kicking an imperative)
3rd Round (FA): Alex Urban
4th Round: Darren Minchington (Rookie Upgrade)
5th Round: Mav Weller (Rookie Upgrade)
PSD: Kristian Jaksch

Rookie List: Lew Pierce to be downgraded to the Rookie List until he shows something. Saad potentially to be rookied as well.

Those in the gun for 2015: Tom Simpkin, Terry Milera, Tom Curren, Farren Ray, Sam Gilbert (injuries)

Likely to hang em up end of 2015: Nick Riewoldt, Sam Fisher, Adam Schneider

Would want to start putting more runs on the board: Spencer White, Seb Ross, Brodie Murdoch, Josh Saunders, Arryn Siposs, Dan Markworth (gotta make it onto the park and stay there)

2015:
Key Forwards: Nick Riewoldt, Rhys Stanley, Spencer White, Reece McKenzie
3rd tall FWDs: Tom Lee, Arryn Siposs
Small FWDs: Adam Schneider, Jack Billings, Terry Milera, Darren Minchington, Eli Templeton (R), Ahmed Saad (R)

Rucks: Tom Hickey, Billy Longer, Lewis Pierce (R), Jason Holmes (R)

Inside Mids: David Armitage, Luke Dunstan, Jack Steven, Mav Weller, Seb Ross, Tom Curren, Brodie Murdoch, Christian Petracca, Alex Urban
Outside Mids: Leigh Montagna, Shane Savage, Jack Newnes, Farren Ray, Josh Saunders, Blake Acres, Dan Markworth, Lukas Webb

Key Backs: Luke Delaney, Sam Fisher, Josh Bruce, Kristian Jaksch
3rd tall BKs: Sean Dempster, Sam Gilbert, Dylan Roberton, Tom Simpkin
Small BKs: Jarryn Geary, Nathan Wright, Jimmy Webster

Either delisted or re-drafted as a rookie i think....

Does Pelchen have a column in his spreadsheet that reads "Diabetes Yes/No"?

I'm amazed that Paddy's condition is mentioned so often. He's a super professional kid who has had to manage his diet & lifestyle from a young age. This puts him ahead of many draftees who get on a list then live like a rock star.

Its diabetes for god sake not leprosy.

Can you provide some insight into how it will effect his development as a footballer?

Hadn't considered that but re-drafting him as a rookie seems the best thing to do. He's not going to be playing senior footy next year barring injuries to Hickey or Longer or Stanley, may as well give him a year or 2 on the rookie list to develop.

I've been following this thread closely and I must say, I'd much rather us take Petracca at pick 1 than address the need for a key forward.
The kid has put his hand up as being the best player in the country and as it is, we don't exactly have an abundance of gun midfielders.
Petracca or bust for me. Make it happen pelican

Mav Weller to be upgraded permanently when able to do so; he's got another year, so we can afford to do it this way IMO.

Pretty harsh. Everyone's willing to cut tommy Lee some slack because of his preseason, Pierce has been injured a majority of this year too. Don't forget last year as an 18 year old he held down the sandy number 1 ruck position almost all year and played pretty well. All while being very skinny, he has a real crack and just keeps going.

In saying all this, I would too pick Petracca. Yes we need a key forward, but we need to develop Lee, white and Stanley whilst roo is in the side. Pick up a big forward in a couple of years with FA. forward lines are overrated IMO. Quite a few teams have won a gf with a good forward line, but a sensational midfield.

I think its simply a statement of the odds of his playing seniors next year.

Yeah I suggested this about a month ago. I don't think anyone is suggesting we delist, but given we want to hit the draft as much as possible over the next few years.. Senior spots are at a premium and should be given priority to players we who are playing or who we want to play

No question it's harsh, but footys a harsh business nowadays, and you have to be ruthless in a rebuild.

I definitely remember everyone raving about Pierce - I did too - but the difference between Lee and Pierce is that between Hickey, Longer, Rhys as a part-ruck and the incredible improvement from big Holmesy, we're flush with ruck options. Down forward, aside from glimpses from Bruce, Stanley, Lee and White it's still very much 'Roo or bust'...

Lewis chose a very unfortunate time to get injured.

We take best player available which is petracca. Mcartin to brissy wright to gws. Now gws have a serious issue when the need to retain all of these talls. Thats when we will swoop on patton or boyd with huge front loaded contracts after lenny schnid fish roo retire we will have more money than we know what to do with. Im sure the wheels are in motion to land one or two of these gws big forwards. Petracca is mates with boyd and patton. Give petracca no 7 unlimited phone call to nsw and get him to harass them everyday.

The fact there are an abundance of good GWS forwards that we can snag, as well as Weideman? or that underager from SA, Bunton? next year in the draft, I would be picking Petracca.

Pretty sure I have heard Pelchen say in previous drafts that early on you pick best available. The later picks are what you can utilise to pick up players in key areas.

I reckon GWS will surprise and take someone like a Laverde; they've got class everywhere, all they need now is some further 'X-factor'

I'd take Schache over Weidman.

I'd think GWS would take Durdin, Goddard or Brayshaw.

They can't stock another tall forward unless they move one of Patton or Boyd this year imo

I would not say no trade value. He is 5th in our ruck lineup. A depth player needing a lot of time as rucks do. A club that wanted say a 3rd string ruck may be tempted. Not that they would give much, but we would not be losing much. I still think we are very weak in our tall defence stocks, so a developing tall backman for him from a team that thinks it has enough defenders might work.

May be a bit lopsided, but what about:

Pierce > Fremantle
Smith > Us

Sandilands is nearing 32 and becoming injury-prone, Bradley and Griffin are nearly 29 and the same and Apeness IMO is a forward who can ruck if he has to.

That leaves Clarke, who's not a first ruck IMO, Hannath and Moller, who's a Rookie.

Fremantle gets a promising natural ruck and we get a 196cm athletic 'stopper' KPD who can't crack a game, although he's had injury issues.

Failing that, maybe Alex Pearce (199cm 87kg) or Matt Taberner (197cm 94kg) as a development KPP?

Time to cut loose Siposs has been at the club for 3 years still not sure he is up to it,his market value is high as a lot of clubs rate him we could get a late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder.
Agree that Arryn needs to move on but I don't think we'd get close to a pick 17-25.

Probably lucky to get one in the 40's to be honest. He might end up as the steak knives in a trade but a poor work ethic will scare off clubs that love his footskills.
