If you gamble with a 1st round selection for a mature aged player you would expect an instant return so far Lee has shown zero, too many supporters are to forgiving give him time ,wait till he gets over injuries please spare me the excuses he will be 24 next season how long do you wait has shown very minimal output when he has played.
I AM CHOOSING TO IGNORE THE TWO OTHER PLAYERS WE GOT IN THE TRADE. FART.

Just remember we downgraded from pick 12 to 24. Obviously our recruiters right or wrong didn't see a lot of difference talent wise between those picks and/or rated Lee enough to take the risk. Hindsight at this early point in time suggests only two players, Grundy and Kennedy (farkin Collingwood) are the better players than the guy we picked with pick 24...Plus we added Josh Saunders who has shown more than the majority of guys picked between picks 12 and 24 as well! We did alright IMO even if Lee ends up being a dud. I do agree with you regarding his age. Lee needs to show something soon. He's got two years.

Sippo might land us a 4th rounder if we are lucky.
Yep. Considering that Tom Lamb, for example, is going to be available in the second round, you'd have to ask why a club would give away their pick to get somebody like him, or Lachie Weller, etc, to get Arryn Siposs.

Okay. So, let's say instead, we'd swapped pick 12, for pick 20, 24 and 43, and used pick 20 for Lee, 24 for Wright (which we did) and pick 43 for Saunders (which we did). Would this have made you happy?

Lee is NOT - and never was - a #12 pick. He was a part of the splitting up of pick 12 to get 3 picks. This was part of Pelchen's plan to increase the amount of youth we had at a time when our list made Methuselah look young.

Regardless of what pick we got Tom Lee for, he really needs to start showing something. This is his 2nd go at AFL football and its time for him to step up, weather he has had injuries or not its make or break next year because so far he has given us zero.

Yeah I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't show something between now & the end of the season. He better rehab his ar5e off!

If we get Kristian Jaksch in the PSD, will everybody just STFU about Tom Lee & the pick 12 trade from 2012?

**** I hope so, I'm getting bloody tired of it :thumbsu:
Effectively making it Pick #1 in the 2014 PSD for Jaksch, Lee, Wright and Saunders. Pelchen, you STAR!

Saints lovers, pick 12 was never pick 12, it was a compromised draft, remember?
Pick 12 was actually pick 22 with GWS smashing the draft with pre selections. So we actually did very well that year.
Same as Seb Ross, he was really pick 35 not 25 so is performing at about expectations.
Re Lewie Pierce, not going anywhere!

Or if we take O'Rourke instead

It will mean we got the #2 pick, Lee, Wright & Saunders all for pick #12 in 2012 in a roundabout way....

He played about 10 games last year for about 17 goals. That's not exactly nothing. His VFL form this year was pretty average but he had no preseason 2 years in a row because of injury. Mature age isn't 21 that's 2 to 3 years advanced on a kid straight from the draft but after missing the professional build environment that a developing kid would have got for 2 years. Most tall forwards will take around 4 to 5 years to develop if drafted at 18. Give him time and he should be a very decent forward with the possibility of being a very good player.

He was according to Kevin Sheahan, Ben Dixon and Terry Wallace on TAC Cup Future Stars before we traded him in...

Pretty harsh. Everyone's willing to cut tommy Lee some slack because of his preseason, Pierce has been injured a majority of this year too. Don't forget last year as an 18 year old he held down the sandy number 1 ruck position almost all year and played pretty well. All while being very skinny, he has a real crack and just keeps going.

In saying all this, I would too pick Petracca. Yes we need a key forward, but we need to develop Lee, white and Stanley whilst roo is in the side. Pick up a big forward in a couple of years with FA. forward lines are overrated IMO. Quite a few teams have won a gf with a good forward line, but a sensational midfield.
i like the idea of rookie listing pierce. frees up the senior list and takes the pressure off him

May be a bit lopsided, but what about:

Pierce > Fremantle
Smith > Us

Sandilands is nearing 32 and becoming injury-prone, Bradley and Griffin are nearly 29 and the same and Apeness IMO is a forward who can ruck if he has to.

That leaves Clarke, who's not a first ruck IMO, Hannath and Moller, who's a Rookie.

Fremantle gets a promising natural ruck and we get a 196cm athletic 'stopper' KPD who can't crack a game, although he's had injury issues.

Failing that, maybe Alex Pearce (199cm 87kg) or Matt Taberner (197cm 94kg) as a development KPP?
except freo's immediate concern is down back and up forward more so than the ruck

I still have no clue who I want out of McCartin, Wright and Petracca. You can put a good case forward for each of them.
Have been reading through this thread and I reckon in the last couple of weeks, the general consensus has changed at least 3 times. Before we know it, everyone will be back to McCartin. ;)

Pierce is actually a pretty decent player. I'm sure other teams saw his junior footy and the preinjury games. He's pretty unlucky not to have got a senior game this year. Holmes is keeping him from playing regular senior VFL too I imagine. Pierce is worth holding onto and trading out in a few years if he doesn't get a chance in the seniors.
Hickey is a great prospect, but spends more time in rehab than on the park unfortunately....No guarantees with Stanley & Holmes, leaving Longer & Pierce the only recognised ruckman..Pierce just needs time to develop, & downgrading him to the rookie list is an option..Got to have three traditional ruckman on your list at a minimum, with one or two in the development stage..Like you said, if ever we need to squeeze a ruckman out you just trade them..

Bullshit , he's kicked 3 on 3 occasions.
Obviously no-one wanted him to get injured so often, but he's shown as much as Joe Daniher or Jon Patton so far.
Yes he's older, he's a late developer.

And wasn't having a go at him but some players bodies just don't stand up to AFL footy. Hope I am wrong but its looking that way for Lee
