If we upgrade Shenton and keep him as depth I would be happy, I agree re: Newnes as a midfielder but I think Jimmy Webster would be best as our guy playing on small defenders; his 2nd and 3rd efforts are fantastic and his speed and tenacity make him a tough opponent for any medium or small forward.

Depends on what the plan is for the rest of the list.

Personally I'd be sitting Arryn Siposs down with 100 hours of Matt Suckling highlights and telling him that's how good he can be. Reprogram him to the HBF/wing again and let him take our kickouts.

Richo seems locked on Sip as a forward so I'd keep Shenton as depth before Simpkin to be honest. I think Shents has shown a little more ability and has just as much campaigner about him to play that 'enforcer' type role if needed.

I'm a lover, not a fighter
I guess if a club is interested in one of our rookies The Pelican will work his magic and drive the price up like Tommy Walsh!
I'll start the #stayshents twitter campaign today (hey, it worked when I did it with Walsh!).

***play hardball with GWS, burn bridges with the mongrels & get KJ for free!***

Time to get some mids in with height... Laverde (drafted with the mid 1st round PP pick that the AFL kindly gave us), Petracca & Evans all give us height & varying strengths. I'd love to get Touk Miller onboard... small but a damn good player & ripping leader. Lamb is the drifter that we take a chance on & McKenzie the massive unit for depth. The Siposs/Hallahan trade gives opportunity & a fresh start for both players. Hallahan gives us a hard tough body to help cover the loss of Armo & Geary. Brissie get two mature mid aged players for a 19 pick downgrade. We get PETRACCA!

I can't be bothered working out the INS & OUTS but if required, pick 97 is passed on & Shenton delisted. Not convinced with either Shents or Minchy. Demote Big Lewie to the rookie list to open a spot.

There's a lot of that I like but I don't see Brisbane giving up the chance to get either of McCartin or Petracca just to get Armo (who is similar to Petracca in a lot of ways) and especially Stanley, especially since McCartin is their dream result and Petracca could play from the get-go.

Yeah it's wishful thinking I know... they will get Hammelman with their 2nd or 3rd pick as a developing key forward though. I reckon they might take Wright at 2... Leuey is injury prone, West did an ACL, Martin is undersized & a battler at best & their forward line is threadbare. Adding Wright & Stanley as well as Armo in the guts plus good players at 21 & 22 could really set them up.

As I said, wishful thinking!

It's more realistic that Melbourne could trade an early pick (if Frawley leaves)... If the draft goes, 1. StK (McCartin), 2. BRIS (Wright), 3. MEL (?), 4. MEL (?), 5. GWS (who cares) hopefully we can get hold of that pick #3 for Petracca, leaving Brayshaw or Durdin for them at #4.

The Demons had agreed to trade pick 2 to us last year (so the strong mail was) so after shafting us for the GWS deal maybe they'll deal in a more honest manner this year!

Sorry just realised I was still giving the Lions Wright for the pick that they traded to us!

Can you please tell me, on what universe is Jarryn Geary worth pick 42? he's not worth trading for pick 42, no way, he's too valued for us to let go so cheaply. i'm not saying he's a player that would necessarily command a higher pick but we don't really get anything out of it letting him go so cheaply

I'm guessing the dogs board are so convinced he'll go to them?? lol
Boyd being contracted you would think the only way he goes this year is if GWS received compensation to the value they paid for him. Pick 1 or a elite player would be the only thing GWS would consider I reckon. But too many variables. Boyd would likely nominate a club, that club would have to provide adequate compensation and GWS would have to be willing to trade a contracted player believing he's a goner next year anyway. Couldn't see it happening TBH.

I would like to know what offer we put in for pick 1/Boyd last year? If that rumour is true...

My 2 options would be:
A: trade pick 1 to GWS for pick 3? & Jaksch
B: pick Petracca with pick 1 and go after a big key forward during FA in a couple of years

interesting developments that the father son/academy selection rules could be changed by the end of the year!!!!

this means sydney and the pies might have to give up more than just their first rounder for moore and heeney

this might just open up the third round for us!!!

If Boyd really wanted out of there he might not be too fussed which club he ended up at, as long as it was because he particularly didn't like living up there in Western Sydney and was able to get back to Melbourne.

So if he really wanted out and GWS were willing to grant him that wish early (ie. this year) then surely he'd be willing to work with GWS on a trade that benefited both himself and GWS and if that was the case, then we'd be pretty much in the box seat to get the deal done, as we so many of the necessary ingredients, being:

A: Cap space to be able to fit him in
B: A willingness to be able to pay him as much as it would take to get him here (we said we'd pay "overs")
C: A suitable draft pick (or its equivalent) that GWS would be happy to accept in a trade.
D: A position is our team for him to be able to come pretty much straight in and play plenty of footy and to know that that spot will then be pretty much "his to lose".
E: A good trading relationship with GWS

Probably the only ingredient that we're lacking is that we're currently not likely to be an attractive destination for anyone that could have lots of options, but money could change that and I doubt any other team would tick all those 6 "boxes", either, so I'd say we'd be as good a chance as any team if he was on the table. More so if he liked the idea of working side by side with Roo for the next year or two and/or if he happened to be close with Wright, Billings, Dunstan, Acres, or Eli, if/when they were at Vic Metro, and/or the AIS together.

Then we'd have to weigh up whether we thought he'd be better value than McCartin, Wright or Petracca, especially since he'd cost so much more money than any of those 3, while only being one year more advanced.

If we didn't think he was quite worth giving up pick 1 for, then we may be able to get a little bit of a sweetener thrown in, if they are keen to trade him this year, because they thought he'd fly the coop next year and/or were really keen for someone like Petracca or Wright.
