OT maybe but in what universe is pick 3 fair compensation for James Frawley? Surely common sense would be an end of first round pick (pick 19?)

It's a wonder we haven't heard anything about them being interested in Frawley. Mature, but still in the age bracket where he could win a flag at the club.
i agree. very unusual. maybe frawley is set on playing finals or staying in melbourne more so than the money.

mohr apparently has a serious knee, so i think they desperately need a ready made KPD. they'll be after the usual mature age talent as well. i think to, as i said earlier, get more experience around the kids, similar to GC.

they will want to improve on 6 wins

There was an article recently where the Swans mentioned that they have proposed that to the AFL, that they would drop out of the draft completely and back themselves with their development academy. They of course get full access to all academy players and whoever else they can entice to Sydney, with $$$$$$.

Didn't go anywhere yet, but you have to like their looking outside the square and the obvious effort they do put into development. It isn't luck that so many players who were ok at other clubs, have excelled at the Swans. Their development program must be exceptional.
Interesting idea, though the one system for the Swans and another for everyone else would stir a lot of controversy.

The Swans do play a pretty active role in trying to get kids into the game. I played in the inaugural GPS AFL school comp that LRT led (GPS schools are hardcore rugby union territory), we met some AFL people and got to play games at Olympic Stadium which was pretty awesome for a 16 year old. The quality of games was pretty poor but even if they don't get future players from that particular system they definitely get kids more interested in the sport. I see the merit in the academy system from a macro perspective, but it is indeed frustrating seeing the swans get top end draft talent for three fifths of bugger all.

I know Stanley has shown some improvement this year..and personally i will want to keep him...but if we are able to get ben griffiths somehow cheap to play that fwd/ruck role..

I think it might be a good idea to trade Stanley + our third rounder to Port for their 1st...trade him while he has value and get his replacement..

I also see us making a play for Melbourne's pick 2...and the only guys that can net us that are Steven and Armo...so maybe something like

Steven and Curren for Pick 2 & 22
Armo and our second for Pick 2
Steven for Pick 2

We get Pick 1 & 2 GWS can go and stuff themselves:

Saints get Petracca and Mccartin..Thx Melb

Realities of trying to get top ten draft picks, we have to offer something, but if Griffiths will walk to us via PSD it's then trading Stanley for a first is mighty tempting, also it really depends on whether we are looking for CP or McCartin or Wright with our first. If we only want CP then we hold onto Stanley.

Given our young inside mids in number then I can see the point and value in trading Armo. out, the tough one is Steven, as our only genuine mid with genuine leg speed he has great value to us, not sure that anyone else would value him that highly, to us he's worth a first and a kid, to any one else.... I don't know.

I don't think Griffiths is going as well as Stanley, playing in a better side.

We want a decent pick if we are going to make that move of replacing Rhys with Griffiths IMO.

Plus griffiths is playing finals, money could be the only motivation to come to us you'd think.

I know Jack is probably the better player, but if you went to war, you'd want Armo in the trenches with you. He has been very Lenny like this year.

^months ago I would have stated the opposite.

But yeah, if we somehow ended up with picks 1 and 2 or 1 and 3, lost Jack, gained a decent kid and drafted CP and Paddy, I'd be thrilled.

why not have both? some competition wouldnt hurt Rhys, just like we've seen with mcevoy when hickey came and now hickey with longer coming

grab griffiths with a PSD pick. then revisit next off-season

warnock got cut from GC. surely GWS or someone else would take him as depth/leadership over the next 1 or 2 seasons. he's 30 but you could get maybe 3 seasons from him

I can't see how Trading Jack for CP (in essence - Pick 2) benefits us in the slightest. Gun mid out/Gun mid in.

Jack - Pick 2 & 22 i would think about it....Jack - Pick 2 i wouldn't do.
Agree. I don't like the idea of trading an established A grade player for a draft pick. If and only if we trade someone of the quality of Steven I would want a young player in return that has shown enough to suggest he won't be a risk like a draft pick is.

I really like CP but still question marks on his disposal. He can roost a footy and is a penetrating kick but he lacks class. I'm not sure if he fits the Pelican's model.

I think the suggestions of trading jack Steven are pretty silly. Unless it's for massive overs. Why would you trade out a gun mid for a potential gun mid? And I'm also going to buck the trend here and say he is a good kick, sometimes he just tries to do a little to much. Last year he was an absolute beast and this year he has just struggled with injury, he's one of the most damaging mids in the comp.

They might assume that taking Griffiths will give us some space to take Petracca or Brayshaw at #1. We desperately need good tall forwards, which is one of the reasons why McCartin is so tempting. While Griffith is probably nowhere near McCartin's potential, he could prove serviceable enough. Even if he doesn't, he can be a handy stopgap until next year's draft, which apparently has some handy tall forwards in it, too.

Also, we can afford to give Griffiths a much juicier contract than the Tiggers can, because we have more salary cap right now than we know what to do with.

It is morally reprehensible to send any of our beloved players - or for that matter innocent young kids in the draft - to hell. Melbourne are called the Demons for a reason.

No trading with them. No priority picks. To go to the Melbourne Football Club is to destroy a person's career before they've even started it.

If we a keen on a top end midfielder then I would definitely be trading down from pick 1 and try to land Weller. He's the classiest mid in the draft and right up the Pelican's alley. If pick 1 became Lever and Weller then we come out big winners.
