a cheap option for a tall fwd might be mason shaw. rated him as a colt, stuck in the SANFL and wont get a look in at port, with them up and about and settled.

he's been injured this year with a wrist but he did ok last year in the SANFL (be it reserves). i would get in his ear big time and get him cheaply. out of contract this year too!!!!

On Port's LTI... Is he really likely to jump ship? And more importantly, is he actually good enough to make it at league level...?

starved of opportunity. was the leading goal kicker in the colts prior to being drafted. would be a cheap get. just as much chance of making it as the other talls we've discussed targeting at GWS outside of patton, cameron and boyd.

my point is he'd be a cheap option and would provide needed depth and another tall fwd

Why would Port give up Shaw if he is any good when they are desperate for key forwards? And if he was any good Fremantle would surely offer him something to go home.
port are desperate for key fwds?

freo would be the obvious threat and would be his preferred destination but you never know, especially since freo loaded up on talls in the last draft. if anything freo are quite heavy on younger talls in the mold of mason shaw (pearce, apeness, tabener) then you've got the older brigade in (kepler, hannath, clarke, gumbleton)

freo's issue isnt that they dont have the players on the list, its that none have made an impact or developed enough yet. tabener is the best of the younger brigade. kepler ACL and didnt get a look in before that, z clarke isnt a footballer and hannath is just too big and slow for a fwd.

Schulz won't go around forever he is 29 now, Butcher has been a complete let down so far. They'll want Mason Shaw if he is any good.. Reading the Port Adelaide board they speak a lot about wanting Adam Tomlinson

Guys we will pick up a key fwd with our first draft pick and we hope that we finish bottom 3 (without tanking of course).

As I write this, Port are on top of the ladder. Why and how have Port done what they have done? Yes there are many reasons but essentially it helps enormously that they have about 6 or 7 top 10 draft picks playing for them. We have one - pick 3 Billings. (Forget how good Dunstan and Acres will become for a second as technically they are not top 10 picks even though we can all agree that they will end up playing like they are one :))

We desperately need a top 2-5 pick this year for an elite key fwd, a further top 4-9 pick next year for another elite player as well as perhaps a free agency elite player and now we are starting to build a worthy list for our next premiership crack.

So back to 2014 - ideally one of Wright, McCartin, or Durdin. Of those 3 assuming Wright is pick 1 then I would like Durdin who I think I read was listed at 197cm. Having Durdin, Stanley, & Lee as the tall fwds with Stanley as the relief ruck would be great!! There are others on here who know more than I about the 2014 draftees including Rahul but that has to be our main aim this draft period. "Operation Get that Key Fwd who will lead our forward line post Reiwoldt"

Reality check peeps - our best players this season really have been Joey, Lenny, and Roo. I think we have the players to replace Joey and Lenny but we still need players to replace Reiwoldt......as well as Goddard & Dal Santo at a minimum. You see where I am going with this? :)

And another defender-turned-forward, Rahul's boy Hugh Beasley kicked 4 for Oakleigh.

Got a case of the Tommy Simpkins at 'only' 192cm, but strong, blisteringly quick and will never die wondering.
Love him as a forward. Can't use his pace as a defender but can get on a lead and create some separation as a goal-kicker.

First digit 1, 2nd digit 9 of course :p
;)

Can play a bit though...

Could he make it as a smaller key forward at Senior level, when he couldn't as a KPD?

His kicking seems to have improved and he plays a lot taller than his 192cm and is genuinely strong in the air... I really like the kid.

Not sure yet, unfortunately think he'll be overlooked again.

You would thing GWS will have a top three pick and they have KP players in bulk. They have stock piled them to trade out later as they are the hardest to get. They would be crazy to not get more mids as you can at least play more of them. You would think melbourne and GWS then Brissy get 1 and 2 and 3 then hopefully us. Brissy has Freeman and a zone player called Hammilmann or something who is a KPF with potential. They might not need a KPF along with Paperone. We might get our choice with pick three if thats the case. Wrighty or Durdin come on down when Angus Brayshaw and Weller go one and two.

>Found this on Hammelmann. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-04-27/roar-ambition

I think the biggest ace we currently hold for the next 2 years is that we have both Longer and Hickey. I doubt that there will be room in the team for both of them unless one develops as a good fwd option when resting. And then you still have Stanley.

Rucks are hard to come by.

Left field one here..

But Lewis Johnston from Adelaide "might" be worth keeping an eye on, i have liked him when he has gotten a chance at AFL level has a good kick on him but according to Adelaide supporters lacks the defensive side of his game along with work rate. If we got him cheap a pre-season following Roo around could help him out assuming he does play on in 2015 which he is signed on for. I mean who wouldn't want to learn from the skipper!!

quite a selfish player from what i've seen. cost adelaide probably two games, because he kicked for goal from 50 on the boundary, with two teammates in the central corridor of the 50.

Either way i think we'll get a developing key forward in the draft, we'll finish low enough to get one. Depends who though..
Best: Wright
Next best: McCartin
For versatility: Durdin, Goddard
Best beast: Watchman, McKenzie

Tom Lamb and WA's Sam Bevan are pretty handy too, but more lead-up/3rd talls...

My two cents...
