Wouldn't mind losing Steven or armo, would make us a whole lot worse next year and under the Afl news criteria they use for priority picks, it could come in handy but I'm sure most of you would hate this opinion, I'll all for afl handouts.

We'll literally need to go winless to be a chance at a PP. If they've said no to Melbourne twice*, not sure how we'll get one.

Frawley compo compromises this. We'll never know if they'd have got one had he not left.

Of course they would say to Melbourne, There downfall has been because of there recruitment team, They have been given high draft picks & basically got french fries instead of a 3 course meal, I think the AFL take into consideration when a team have blown there chances so many times, surely?

Still wouldn't mind dealing with GC, offer them pick 1 for picks 8, 15 & Jack Leslie(a former #20 selection)
That gives us 3 players in the top 20.

You are definitely not alone here, I have absolutely no issue accepting a priority pick from the AFL and would be happy to win less than 5 games next year if it meant we achieve it. Everybody forgets that Hawthorn had priority picks in 04 & 05. What people won't forget is the epic team that won 3 of the last 7 flags. It has been 48 years, I just want a flag. Just once.....

I'm a lover, not a fighter
For mine, I'm against trading either of them, but for a different reason from those mentioned.

Over this off-season already, we have seen several other clubs going mad, as we've stated: Adelaide and GC dumping their coach, Ryder and Co leaving the Bombers, major defections of senior players from the Dogs, Beams, etc, etc. And the question whenever any of these people leave is, "What was wrong with where they were? What led to them leaving?" And whether clubs give them the answer to those things or not, the media will make their own conjectures about that, all of them ugly.

Contrast that with us. We've just had an emphatic statement in the opposite direction - 19 young players committing to the club. Let's shine a bit in the midst of all this muck. Because I think if we do that, then our reputation as a place to be will really have an impact. A place where players are treated right, loyalty, a place where players love to play and know they're loved. THAT will get players nominating to come to us.

We just literally pushed out 2 superstar favourite sons and McEvoy who wanted to stay…
I don't think we can pretend that we are all of sudden super loyal.

We could have sewn up Goddard much earlier if we really wanted to keep him, it's not like we couldn't afford a back-ended deal.

He wanted a cuddle, we shied away :)

Damian Dickhead: "St Kilda just aren't being active enough in this years trade period, they need to cut and run loose with their players"

Mate Goddard wanted to leave, we offered him the captaincy for ****s sake. Probably not the thread for it tho.
Anyway I'm firmly on team Petracca.
Ideally we need another pick in the teens to grab Weller, then grab a slider at 22.
Not a chance in hell GWS up 4&7 for griffen, I'm sorry but he's not that ******* good.

There's no need to admit anything... Our team was lucky to scrape 4 wins with a % of 60.
We sucked across the board & an outside mid playing in that side is going to suffer.
And Lenny carried us in a number of games..

Is the reason many players are breaking their contracts, as the next coach will love them more..

I think the BJ Dal Macca situation was a bit different - they were acts of desperation after finding ourselves in a pretty seriously stuffed up situation.

More than that, they ain't happening this year. This year, we scream stability and loyalty in the midst of a sea of backstabbing clubs, players, coaches, etc, etc, etc.

Football clubs are a brand. But we often focus on how they're a brand to members, etc. They're also a brand to players. Players are watching us, just like they're watching other clubs this off-season. We've already talked about how NO player wants to go anywhere NEAR the Bombers, because from a players' perspective, the Bombers have a terrible brand right now. Let's be the anti-Essendon in this regard, a place that players will want to come to in years to come.

If we trade either of Armo or Jack, we are no better than the rest. And I want us to be better than the rest.

We haven't had much luck getting midfielders from other clubs were linked with these over the last few off seasons:

Josh Caddy
Taylor Adams
David Myers
Jonathan O'Rourke
But on the flip side drafted 3 absolute gems.
I honestly believe we'll look back on last years draft as the turning point for this club.

I agree that the Future Fest stuff positions us to look a hell of a lot better than other teams at the moment but you are being overly dramatic here.

Us getting a good offer for one of our core players and deciding to trade them for the benefit of our flag aspirations is totally different to the Beams, Griffen, Ryder situations.

It doesn't show disloyalty to the players we trade out, it shows that the club knows where it is, has a plan and is willing to make the hard calls to get to a premiership. It shows that the club is loyal to all its remain players and all its members because it is willing to do everything within its power to get a flag. The only way trading a player out looks worse than any of that is if they leave in a horrible fashion. So far I don't think any of our trades have been anywhere near as bad as the current round of departures.

agree. feel like acres has fyfe like potential and billings wingard/gray potential. Throw in dunsan as a hayes like warrior and that's a good starting midfield
