Devil's advocate...

who's to say that the club has put terms to Jack and he has refused to sign?

Frankly, I don't think too many clubs are going let players walk anymore.

I'm inclined to agree. I think clubs will start requiring players to re-sign a year before the contract ends and accept refusal to do so as an admission that they want to leave. Pretty soon it'll become the norm and while players might complain about them not getting full value (they might increase their value next year) it also works both ways because they lock in extensions earlier so they have more protection form injury.

If we had a decent indication that Steven was thinking of leaving next year then we'd have to be very tempted to trade him this year for a very good pick with the upside that it would significantly increase our chances of a priority pick next year. Ultimately you'd prefer to keep him, but if he is going to leave anyway you may as well do the deal on your terms and get as much value as soon as possible.

Personally, I doubt GWS give picks 4 & 7 for a bloke who turns 29 mid next year. They would be stupid to do so. Possibly they give 4 & steak knives. Then we can take 7 & Shiel for 1!
Sorry I am dropping on your trade thread cause you guys will get Membrey.

But considering this draft Brisbane thinks Beams is worth 5+25, no chance that Griffin is worth 4+7.

This is a weird trade period.

Just had another listen to the Richo interview today and you have to feel good about the people in charge. I missed the part where he spoke about there being priority picks and the like to stockpile talent quickly but now that's gone and we need to find other means to do that. They know that one first round pick a year won't get us anywhere. :Thumbsu:

Did you hear him say about us and the swans having other deals to do?

Just so I wasn't hearing things..

I hope we get some good news today.

Maybe someone requesting a trade here or something. So far it has been boring and we seem to be going around in circles in this thread haha.
Circles? Whatever do you mean.

Well I'm pretty bored and not going outside for a few more hours so I figure I'll waste some time.
Billings, Dunstan, Acres, Templeton and Weller. Where do we rate each one of these draftees and who do you guys think are most like and least likely to succeed? Also, how would you rate our drafting/trading this year in comparison to others? I can't remember us having a better off season in recent history, although the real proof will take a few years to jusdge.

Although I don't want him to leave at all, what do you guys think Geary might be worth if he was traded? He could be one to get us an extra pick in the 20 as part of a deal?

All these guys bar Acres has shown enough in their game time to know they will all "make it" as far as a career. How good they get is another question but Billings and Dunstan have both shown just how good they can be with less then 10 games under their belt so I see them both being elite in their own ways.

Turned his back on Geelong and Free Agency to re-sign with us this year so I would be surprised if he was traded.

But in saying that I doubt he will get us a pick inside 20.

can't see how we pushed out goddard when he explored his rights as a free agent. we did push out dal, i'll give you that.
No - Dal was offered a contract. He was courted heavily by North all year. We ultimately offered to match North's offer (fact). Dal said no and walked (Watters didnt help). Difference is that he did it with style. BJ was low-balled. He could have stayed but he chose to go. His call. Big Boy was the best trade ever. He simply wasn't up to it. We all knew it and the club struck when they had the chance. Brilliant IMO.
