We haven't had much luck getting midfielders from other clubs were linked with these over the last few off seasons:

Josh Caddy
Taylor Adams
David Myers
Jonathan O'Rourke
I think you are being harsh on us mate. Lets break it down.

Caddy - happy to come here. He went to Seaford with Newnes (his old mate) and was happy to come to the Saints. Geelong simply out bid us with the Ablett compo pick.
Adams - captain turnover. Massively overrated IMO. You should have the displeasure of going to a Pies game and listen to the the vitriol about him. I have watched a lot of pies games this year (ok all of them) and he is a headless chook.
Myers - Dodoro is a spud and the deal couldn't get done. The Dons wanted the house for him. No Hird helped he Dons keep him.
O'Rourke - I will give you that one but apparently he believes that the Hawks have the medicos and facilities etc to help him. Dumb move by O'Rourke IMO - he could have played for us next year.

Ok, I have it!
Pick 1 and kj to dogs
Griffen to gws
Picks 4,7 and 19 to us
I know kj doesn't want to go to Footscray, but if it helps us he'll do as he's dam well told. :)
I realised 5 minutes after I posted that they will get 7 for kj, so he can't go to the dogs. Maybe a WHE type instead? Gives the dogs a replacement midfielder and first crack at a KPP they're dedperate for. And we get our 2 top 20 picks without losing any quality

tbarker Dodoro is notorious for this. I don't think dons will ever be reasonable as long as he is in charge.

And long may he guide Essendon's trading and draft. What would be worse would be if they had a Pelchen in charge, as someone reasonable who can make a deal happen. Not an unattractive thing, that they are lepers who can't strike any deal with anyone.

No - Dal was offered a contract. He was courted heavily by North all year. We ultimately offered to match North's offer (fact). Dal said no and walked (Watters didnt help). Difference is that he did it with style. BJ was low-balled. He could have stayed but he chose to go. His call. Big Boy was the best trade ever. He simply wasn't up to it. We all knew it and the club struck when they had the chance. Brilliant IMO.
Actually we never wanted to keep Dal, we were pushing all the time to not have to trigger the extra year of his contract. Both parties were happy to part ways, one cos of Watters and two cos the pelican knew we'd get got compo for losing him and it would help the rebuild.

BJ, well he made his mind up in about February/march that year that he was going to essendon and just talked crap about wanting to stay and he loved the club etc etc, when in fact he was chasing massive amounts money.

Jooey has zero worth to any club as he would be considered depth in any team intending to challenge for a flag, and far too old for any team a ways off to consider. The only viable options would be those mid range clubs (ie Tigers & Blues) who consistently overrate their list and their current ceilings/deficiencies, and even then you're looking at a 5th round + pick at the most as there's simply not requirement for them outside of being a GOP.

Speculation being that Armo has been enquired about, is young enough to be considered for a sizable contract and durable enough to be considered, in a bundle as a good to great player instead of a mediocre to good player like most players that get named would be initially rated has some worth, similar story to Jack who is younger and seemingly has greater scope to improve.

If for instance we're going to one of Melbs early picks, you can really only trade Jack out of the two to try and get it IMO, no one else on our list would really demand the pick.
Montagna is 30?
although malcheski (sic) is older, he got a 3 year contract. i just thought, for us, it would be better to let go an older like a dal santo rather then Armitage.

His worth to us is higher than he would get in a trade, primarily due to the point that he is part of thje largest group on any club being a midfielder group that can be easily replaced. Malceski is more a HBF/mid variant and was secpficially targeted, there's no precedent here thus far in Joeys case to inflate his value.

If roles were reversed, then by all means entertain the idea of the trade, I just think that at this juncture his worth outside of the club is rather low.

I think the BJ Dal Macca situation was a bit different - they were acts of desperation after finding ourselves in a pretty seriously stuffed up situation.

More than that, they ain't happening this year. This year, we scream stability and loyalty in the midst of a sea of backstabbing clubs, players, coaches, etc, etc, etc.
.
I like your thinking here, but in my mind we are still right in the middle of a pretty stuffed up situation.

List-wise we are still the worst in the comp, so if we don't get multiple picks for our #1, then I think we will definitely trade out a quality player.

We also need to be loyal to our young guys whereby we give them enough quality team mates so that they will be in a position to challenge in 5 years time.

I'm feeling today is gonna be a huge day. Pumped
Hope you're right, I've got a feeling most clubs will take the weekend to mull over deals after the Griffen bombshell... Wonder how long the dogs tantrum will last & they actually concede that he is not playing for them anymore and start to strike a deal?

Club would be silly to enter into a trade for pick 1 until it knows what picks other clubs will end up with. So I wouldn't expect a big trade until next week to be honest... Unless it involves Melbourne and one of our players.

No doubt that the future vision will have been explained to the young players as well as what that requires from them, and what the club is willing to do for them for its part.

HArd to say from the outside, but if certain older players are not buying into this vision, then they will be traded IMO.

I know right. Last night we had the champers out and now I'm flat as well. Still have faith we'll get that third top 20 pick though to go along with Petracca so it's not the worst result.
what a difference 24 hours makes..flat as
Not sure why you're flat hayes and Defacto, the Griffen situation is yet to fully play out and if GWS trade him in, we get the best U18 player in Australia to pair with Jack Billings. There's no losing here.

You are absolutely spot on Rahul but I can't help but feel flat too! If Giants trade in Griffen then I guess they could still offer up Boyd in a deal for Pick 1. I also wouldn't totally rule out Dees either. A lot to play out, but you are right, if we "lose" it means we are watching Petracca and Billings roam the fwd 50 for us next year!

The fact is, in the position we are in, we can't really lose. It's just a case of how much elite talent we can bring in over this trade period. Membrey is a start, but the draft is when we will really go to town.

It's not about this next season, it's the ten seasons after that.

Contracts seem to mean bugger all these days so why dont we jump on board to!

Offer huge cash to boyd/cameron that makes them ask for a trade!
Gws panic think we better trade now or lose him for nothing next year!

We trade pick 1 for boyd/cameron and pic 7.

Beautiful :)
