List Mgmt. 2014 Draft Watch Thread

The Giants have a habit of drafting players who have obviously said that they won't want to be there, then end up losing the players 2 years later (or less) to another club. I'm hoping that if they know Pickett doesn't want to go there that they'll invest their time and picks into young talent who are likely to stay, or who don't have a preference.
Pickett is happy to go anywhere.

Supposably were interested in Nakia Cockatoo..!! Possible pick 15
He's a great player and being from the NT means our recruiting staff will see him more favourable than Victorian based players of the same skill level. Would be a good pick up. Sweet name too.

I'd be happy if we got Cocky at #15 :)

A lot of phantom drafts have us taking Lachie Weller at #8 and Kyle Langford at #15 or vice versa. Whilst they are not my preferred picks, I've cooled a bit on Weller being more an outside player of thin build, and with reports that he is keen to join his brother / family in Victoria (#15 would be OK if Clayton was sure he wasn't a flight risk).
Langford is one I'm warming too. His highlights package didn't do much for me initially, neither did his "plays like Jarrad Grant" comparison :straining: or his reported weight of 73kg - he actually looks a fair bit bigger than that in the highlights vid. However he looks like he has the potential to fill out into a decent sized footballer unlike Grant or Schade. I think #8 is still a bit high for him though. Would be interested to hear others thoughts on him, especially those that have seen him play a bit? Being a Vic is a negative due to the go home factor as well, whereas with Pickett and Cockatoo I don't have that concern.

I don't mind Langford, but agree that #8 seems way too early. I think he'd be there at #15 still.

At this stage it's hard for us to predict who will be at 8 given that GWS are likely to shake things up a bit with some unpredictable picks. So we may get someone who slides.

Watching Cockatoo's highlights on AFL.com, he just looks so much like Brennan. Not that that's a bad thing. Just hope he's a bit more consistent than Jars was. ;)

Has that token flare and x-factor with ball in hand.

I have a long shot for a Tasmanian boy who might be of interest to Scott Clayton. Josh Watts is a likely lad who could be a late draft pick or more likely rookied.

Have a look on the website if you have time.

If we pass on Nakia Cockatoo, I'm not sure I can root for this team. I don't normally get involved in draft decisions, but last time, I said we needed to draft Dyson Heppell's hair, and look how that decision played out. Cockatoo or ****-a you.

That's a joke right? Cockatoo has far too many question marks to go at our first pick.

If we had to put each draft pick to a position.. And pick 8 we need most.. Down to 29 the least etc. how would you have it?

Pick 8 i think we need a classy half forward who will push into the middle in 2 years time
15 a inside mid clearence specialist
29 a key position defender

Just finally got around to watching the Nakia Cockatoo highlights!!
He seems to do it all.. Inside work.. Outside running and bounces.. Pack marks.. Kick goals..
Most of all i love the big dont argue!!
He looks very similar to dustin martin in his first year!
I know some people arnt to keen.. Because his been injured most of the year.. But.. He seems to have all the weapons.. The Suns dont need a game winner next year.. We have the advantage of letting him develop a little.. In 2 years time he could be as good as anyone.. Id gamble pick15 on him.. Just saying!

I agree with you on the priority of our needs, just looking at phantom drafts it looks like that players of those three types might fall at different times in the draft

Pick 8 - should be able to get a classy forward/mid in Pickett or De Goey, if both gone we may get a nice consolation prize in Lever
Pick 15 - there may be a good KPD left from Goddard, Durdin or Marchbark, otherwise Langford should be available as the project half forward player or Blakely as a mid clearance specialist
Pick 29 - seems there are a few inside mid clearance players that should be available here in Neal-Bullen, Bampton, Miller, Gore

One smokey I don't think we'll look at but his highlight package was incredible - Caleb Daniel - he is a serious footballer and if he was 185cm and not 169cm he would be in the top 5 picks in this draft. If he doesn't get drafted we should definitely look to pick him up in the rookie draft.

I like your selections. Be stoked if we picked up Daniel as a rookie.

Just adding to that, apparently in a interview last week, he was questioned about his crook knee, and he didn't want to talk about it.... !!!

He didn't want to talk about the knee reconstruction he spent the past year battling? Stay the **** away!

A certain triple premiership player also did their knee before he was drafted and slipped a bit. He is now the captain of Geelong.

Well that's one way to risk not getting drafted...

At least we know why he ducks now!
