Had no idea we were in to Duggan, great news :P

I'm still unsure about Duggan. I like his style, I'm just not sure he's the type of player we should be targeting with pick 8. Watching his highlights, he kind of reminds me of kade with his long left foot coming out of defence. (Imagine a kades on both wings:eek:) In saying that though, if he's still there at 15, we should be all over him.

Anyway, heres mine:

pick 8: Pickett, Lever, De Goey, Langford

pick 15: Duggan, Blakely, Ahern, Wright

pick 29: R. McKenzie, Smith, Cavka, Neal-Bullen

pick 66: Daniel, Lonie

I saw someone compare Duggan to Nicky Dal. I reckon that's as close as it gets.

Our weakness is kicking at the moment so an elite ball using utility/mid would be great imo.

Are we using pick 66?

If yes my preferences ATM would be -

#8 - Pickett, Laverde, Durdin / Wright

#15 - De Goey, Duggan, Cockatoo, Lever, Langford

#29 - Blakely, Smith, Gore, Maynard

#66 - Daniel, Lonie, Menadue, De Luca

Personally, I am extremely keen on Duggan for pick #8 and feel he's been pigeon holed a bit as an outside player. Perhaps SCPaige can confirm, but I see him very much as an inside/outside player. In his TAC games after the Champs when he was played in the midfield, his contested numbers outweighed his uncontested numbers. That, and he's one of the few mids in this draft to register decent tackle numbers. One of his TAC game he recorded 13 tackles! With 5 or 6 being the norm. He can also rest forward and kick goals (good overhead) or can be played down back.

But perhaps the best thing about him is his ability to communicate and lead. Extremely valuable stuff in such a young draftee.

Granted, he's not fast, but neither is Pendlebury. And while I don't think he will ever get into that same class of player, Pendlebury is similar in how he can play outside AND inside. Heck, he can play anywhere. The Dal Santo comparisons are off IMO.

His inside work does need improvement, but there's a solid base to work off there.

Those who saw him live in the TAC games (especially those last several) have him as one of the, if not THE best midfielder the draft. If those were televised, instead of the Champs where he played as a rebounding defender, I really think the public would be all over him as a fantastic pick up.

Way more excited about picking him up than I was about Kade last year.

I've also read that Duggan is 'too safe' a pick to use a high pick on. WTF does that even mean? Haha. You don't take risks on these high picks. You nail them. Safer they are to play 200+ games, the better.

For our pick #15, I'd like us to go Cockatoo. Very high risk high reward type player, but one we can afford to take. Extremely powerful guy and would not be surprised to see him to top ten.

I'd still love Pickett @ 8, and Cockatoo @ 15 - that would be my perfect scenario ATM. Not too concerned overall though.

The difference in skill level between potential picks 1 - 4 is incredibly close, and the difference between 5 - 10 is equally as close. Ruling out complete duds (ala Watts, Kreuzer, etc), I'd be happy with anybody with pick 8 tbh

I didn't think he was purely outside when I watched even his highlights. Has okay to good contested ball work. His elite kicking and leadership are definitely highly attractive. Would be happy to take him at pick 8. Much happier than I would be if we got Wright. Not sure that he is even close to the best midfielder in this draft though. Brayshaw, Heeney and Petracca (sort of a mid) are all well ahead at this stage.

As for the comparison to Pendlebury I don't see it. Pendlebury has an incredible contested game and always did from memory. He built his game around that. Duggan is more outside than inside (at this stage) but can do both. What parts of Dal Santo's game (at his best) do you think Duggan doesn't share? Dal Santo was not a pure outside player at his best?

Eagles at 11. Done dealio I reckon.

Duggan is also 11 months younger then Petracca and Brayshaw it should be noted. Which makes his leadership skills around his slightly older teammates stand out even further.

11 months at that age is huge, mentally and physically. Not sure who the too safe was aimed at? Because imo Wright would be an obviously safe pick but I'm getting a little tigernova on wright as he was on bolton.

If it's safe you want, How's Touk Miller, captain of vic metro sound? Should be around the mark with 29. Good inside mid and clearance player

Certainly no-one on here. Just some discussion I've read about the internets. :)
