List Mgmt. 2014 Draft Watch Thread

This has been posted on our board, and it's more of an 'outside the box' idea ...

Given that you need to downsize your list, do you think you guys would be keen on the idea of Swapping Picks #10 and #16 (for arguments sake) for our Pick #6?

Get's you close to an elite talent at the pointy end.

I am sure we would, as you point out it will also mean the cull of current players would be reduced. I am not sure how well your club would receive this but 2 first round picks would be a good step for a club rebuilding its young talent.

Perhaps I worded it incorrectly. :D

This is an even draft. I just think we would do much better using our two picks in the teens rather than one at 6.
As long as that talent is better than the players we have to off load to bring them on. The last player we grabbed at around the 12 mark was Lonergan, not sure he is ahead of Hutchins, Taylor, Bock, Hunt, Shade and Allen

Lonergan is streets ahead of all of these players, except a fit Bock of course.

Whether his body agrees however is yet to be seen

Anyone know much about PBC lad Brad Scheer? Won the Maclean Medal as Best Player in the U16s Div2. Sounds like a gun and is in the Suns Academy apparently. Kicked 5 goals on debut for PBC seniors. A midfielder/fwd from what I can gather.

I read recruiters are calling him the next michael voss.. Supposably his only 15? Possibly 16.. Looks the goods.. Hopefully the suns can tie him up in the acadamy till the draft

I would agree that his (Lonergan) potential has him in a higher bracket of player talent but to date due to injury he has shown little, his spot in our best 22 is in no way a given.

The Vics are already whinging about the zoning the "Northern" teams have, don't be surprised if they try and change it in the next couple of years. Emma Quayle has a piece on it on the Real Footy webpage

Holland had a good game for us in the 2s last week... But he's very, very small at 172cm and 76kg.

Despite that, he amassed 27 touches and 5 tackles.

This is he playing for QLD in the Champs this year:

Things you want to be keeping an eye out is how a player improves throughout the year. Remember, the kids at this age can develop rapidly within a span of months. Kade Kolodjashnij is a prime example of this, who just started to back himself and get a heap of confidence in the span of 6-7 months. He went from a late round prospect to very very early first round calculations.

Holland for instance wasn't getting great numbers when the year started, but as the season went on his development has really come on. He's now posting great numbers, and played in the Queensland state U18 team.

To me, not many are really that draftable. The stand-out I would think is Holland. Others look like rookie picks.

Could of even had Lewis Taylor who was thought to be a top 10 pick in last yrs draft but fell down to high 20s because of his height..instead of jack Leslie or Sean lemmens.. Only time will tell if Clayton made the right call on 2 players that were meant to be 4th round picks in lemmens and leslie

I do rate lemmens tho.. Another pre season on endurance and 6months of eating chicken n protein n lifting weights... Looks a good player

Can you have 3 blokes 175cm or smaller in the one side though? With prestia and matera around that mark? And if you can, the SA skipper Jake Johansen had a cracker of a carnival. Having said all this, I think we should be looking at talls with our later picks

Our game plan.. Well i think it is most games apart from when we get smashed.. Is take the game on fast quick movement n get it into a big 3 prong attack.. When we do this.. We win..
Iv mentioned in a earlier post the hawks were playing rioli hartung n puopolo in the 1 side before injuries hit.. The faster more dangerous our half forwards are the better chance our big guys have of getting onto a nice quick kick into 50 N if it comes to ground the little fellas front n centre..
See many a game dixon/day/ lynch go for the mark the ball hits the deck we have 2 200cm + big guys who take
A hour to turn a circle.. N the defenders run it straight out around them with easy handballs n kicks over n over...end to end stuff..
I know boston or sumner could b that guy.. But injuries etc..
Exactly.. Injuries.. What happens when boston sumner matera all injured when were top 4 going into finals.. We have no little guy?
Were lacking a player in that area Draft another in for back up i say.
