I wouldn't go that far. The AFL phantom draft page has Lachie going 14 in the draft. If the draft was held this morning the Suns would hold pick 10 in the draft. I can't see the Suns finishing any higher than 7th on the ladder this year so that would mean pick 12. The two clubs you have to worry about are Brisbane and St Kilda in my opinion. St Kilda have Mav and they may want to see the brothers team up but there is no way Lachie is going top 3 in the draft so that isn't so much of a concern. Brisbane may be interested as he is a local but they currently hold the 4th pick in the draft and I can't see him going that high in the draft. So there is still a decent chance he'll be available when the Suns make their first pick.

Scotty Clayton is quoted in the Bulletin today as saying they'll take the best player available but I think we all know Lachie will get selected if he's still there. The local boy done good story and all that.

Of our Academy players, only Preuss has been invited to the National Draft Combine. You'll notice that he hasn't played many of the NEAFL games, but that's because he has been playing quite a lot for Queensland in the TAC Cup games.

Preuss is a huge kid. 203cm and 102kg. Plays between forward and ruck I think.

So the Suns can definitely draft Preuss as an academy kid if they want to? Might be worth looking into given Gorringe has had a lot of injury problems along with Smith and Nicholls breaking down as well.

100% they can get him under the Academy rules.

Him being invited to the Draft Combine means that at least a few other clubs see him as a prospect too, so he's obviously got something going for him.

He doesn't play for any NEAFL team. His club is listed as Surfers Paradise. The only senior NEAFL games he has played is for the Suns 2s, and even then it's not a lot. More for QLD this year.

Looks like a project player to me. Will need a couple of years of solid development at least, but definitely a good prospect.

Preuss and Agita did played preseason games with Southport and both were signed as rookies but except for QLD and Suns 2s have spent their time in the QAFL. Think you will find Preuss now 206cm 102kg

Crazy height. Just imagine being a "tall" opposition player at around 192cm and still being 14 cm shorter than your direct opponent. The odds are this guy would also have a fairly long reach.

I could be wrong here but I'm pretty sure waiting for the rookie draft allows other teams to pick him up in the ND. You can bet your bottom dollar one of the teams will pick up a 206cm ruckman/forward in the 90+ pick that precede the rookie draft. Height alone will see him get picked up.

Yeah not saying Pruess will last that long , but I cant see us having 4 ruckman on our primary list .

You could make the argument that Dixon isn't really a ruckman these days. Josh Hall is going to get delisted so they definitely need to do something with their ruck stocks.

I would say Smith , Nicholls , Gorringe and Pruess all on our primary list is overkill , esp as Dixon and Day can ruck as well , my guess is that Clayton will want to balance the list as much as possible . I would be shocked to see us draft a ruckman , but a rookie chance possible , lets hope Pruess lasts to rookie rounds.

I suppose the other question is, will the Suns actually use thier academy pick?. Do they not have to drop one from the list list next year and with Bock retiring and Hall been delisted as the only 2 changes that are a given at the moment it does not leave a lot of room.
