Melbourne should offer hawthorn pick 3 for Frawley and pick 18... Win,win...Melbourne get pick 18 for free.. Hawthorn get pick 3! Haha.. Obviously can't do it but just shows how ridiculous these current free agency rules are.

I'm not overly familiar with the draft options yet, but is anyone familiar with the two Townsville boys, Ryan Agita and Braydon Preuss? Any idea what number they're likely to be picked up with?

Don't know about Agita but Pruess I think we will take, especially if we lose Gorro!

I think we have academy rights to him, so might be later in the draft.

Becoming clear Clayton is not going to give up the 2 first rounders we have , thought id check history of the quality those 2 picks

Weller is rated as the 10th best player in the October phantom draft. Suns currently have pick 8. With Darcy Moore and Issac Heeney already sewn up, Lachie is the 8th best player available according to AFL.com.au. Players mentioned before Weller: Petracca (mid), McCartin (tall fwd), Brayshaw (mid), Wright (tall fwd/ruck), Pickett (mid), Laverde (mid) and Lever (tall def).

Starting to think the Suns are going to take Lachie with their first pick if he is still available.

I'm not so sure about that. I think they have their heart set on Ahern or Laverde and pick Lach up if he's still around with 15.
I don't get why they wouldn't take Lachie if he was available? They've taylormade a training program for him and they know he is a quality player. The two guys you mentioned look like mids so I don't really get it? Can you explain why you believe that?

If Weller wasn't from the Goldy would you have the same opinion ? my opinion is with the first pick we have you grab the best available talent , Weller is touted to go between 10-20 so I cant see it.

I believe weller would hang around 2 years then head south down to his older brother.. After we cut him loose.
Mav did have what the Suns needed a tough mid..
Yet we didn't really play him that often..
His been a really good pick up for St Kilda
Must not of been 1 of blueys favourites :/

Of course you pick the best available player but you rarely get the chance to draft a local in the top 8 picks. I know some people don't want to hear this but it could easily turn into another Zorko situation but this time the Suns have put a lot more time and monye into Lachie's development. As I pointed out just before, Lachie is rated as number 10 in the country at this stage but 2 of those players ahead of him have already been drafted which bumps Lachie to 8. The Suns have pick 8... why is it so silly to suggest they should draft him up with pick 8?

Because there are better players available at 8. I saw Lach play a lot for Southport this year, and he wasn't impressive enough to suggest he would be a top 10 selection.

I can see what you mean though. It depends how much we rate him compared to the others, and how well we back our welare program to keep the better draftees here.

Ive seen Weller play in our ressies about 4 or 5 times , never dominated like Martin did , he is a good player no doubt , but those top 10 have to be elite talent . I would be shocked to see us pick him at 8 . The Zorko comparision is not valid in this argument , who is to say Lachie peaked as a 16yo like Mav did?

In that case I can't really argue with you because I only saw him play for the Allies on Grand Final day. It is documented that his season with Southport wasn't great but he did have a few good games for Queensland and he looked very good in the Allies game.

Well no one has compared him to Martin. That's really unfair given some people believe Jack Martin is the best junior to come through in a long time. Weller has never even been mentioned as a top 5 player in his draft class.

You're absolutely right, he could have peaked like his brother but you don't know what will happen in the future. You have to draft on what is perceived to be the best option right now and right now the phantom guide has Lachie going pick 10. I think the Zorko comparison has some merit given the Suns look like they'll have the chance to draft Lachie.

I can't see Weller going top 10 unless we select him. Take Laverde, Durdin or Lever at 8 and hope he is there for our next pick.

They would be a steal at pick 8. Probably won't happen. If so yes they would be. Scahde would be regardless.

It's not a slight on Lachie I don't think, as the NEAFL is against men. But in the AFL he will be playing against men not only bigger and faster than those in the NEAFL, but those with far more talent. Playing in the Champs or the Allies game is a different kettle of fish really, and I doubt anything that the Recruiters pay much attention too. Allies game especially. They would be paying far more attention to guys that are playing league footy during the year to see how they go, or senior league footy.

Naturally, Lachie has a good indication of what's coming in this regard. So it's not all bad news. And it's not like he performed terribly, either. He was serviceable as the receiver type, which is a position he'll likely play at AFL level.

Similar argument to Caleb Daniel, too. People fell in love with him during the Champs, competing with people his own age. But guess what? When he went home to take part in the SANFL, he got absolutely smashed and really struggled. That's the sort of stuff that recruiters will pay attention to, IMO.

I guess that's fair. Having said that, a lot of the kids who come out of Victoria only play TAC Cup and the Championships so they don't get a lot of exposure to playing with men. Would it be better to play against men in a lower standard competition or a strong under 18s comp?

I guess they both have their pros and cons but I know in tennis they try to get the juniors playing against men ASAP to prepare them for what's to come. Lachie of course played a decent amount of TAC Cup games this year as well so it's not like he's underexposed in that regard.

What position does Seb Tape play in your side?
Would love to get him back in SA if there's nothing for him at the Suns! ;)
You want him but have no idea where he plays? o_O

Medium Defender with no fear, hard as nails

HaHa...He was a mid when he captained SA under 18 team. Don't get a lot of Suns games on free-to-air in Adelaide, so I wasn't sure where you guys were playing him.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully he plays a lot more games for ya. If not, we'll take him back thanks. :)
