Taking a bunch of marks up on the wing each game does not constitute 'tearing it up in the WAFL' for a Key forward.

That's what Nick Reiwoldt has done his entire career.

But hey maybe you guys are right and every single key forward on our list is too shit to play AFL except Pavlich. I am sure it has nothing to do with Ross Lyon's historical preference for playing smaller, faster teams and it is just a coincidence.

Yeah, Taberner's simply a 'down on his luck' Nick Riewoldt, that's it..

If that was the case the 17 other clubs recruiters would be going bananas, clammering to come up with trade scenarios for a 21 Y/O Nick Riewoldt clone.

The silence is deafening.

NRiewoldt he ain't. Some aspects, yes. But as a whole - he's not fit to carry Roo's boots.

Why do you guys still argue with this idiot?

I was going to post something earlier about Tabs but I just couldn't be bothered. He doesn't even watch the games so you know what he's saying is just a guess plain and simple.

Yep.

He seems unaware that Tabs has played 2(?) games this year already.

Has taken to stalking me on the SR+P board now.

Not sure why it's so controversial to state what has always been obvious about Ross Lyon. He prefers small forwards who can tackle well over lumbering key forwards who can't. He's shown this preference in every game he's coached for quite a few years.

We have 4 key forwards in our 2nds and between them they have played 2 games all year. You guys love shooting a messenger.

FINALLY some recognition ... thanks pokers

No it wouldn't. The only reason Ross chased Franklin and Cloke was because he thought Pav was past it and wanted to delist him.

pokerspiv is right on this one. Playing 2 tall forwards is an anathema to Ross.

Ross Lyon has shown his preference for playing 2 tall forwards by chucking millions at Travis Cloke. If Cloke isn't a lumbering key forward I don't know what is.

1 has played 2 games since tearing his hamstring in half, 1 is recovering from an ACL tear and the other two are young and would not provide anything more than what we currently have (based on actually watching them).

I think Lyon would play 22 200cm players if they were able to cover the field fast enough and hard enough to play in the zone while being agile enough to adapt to a rolling zone.

That's the point I'm making. 203cm players aren't ever going to be as effective at executing Lyon's game plan. As a result, he is unwilling to pick them.

Pray tell then, why did Lyon chase Travis Cloke and Jack Riewoldt so hard?

You're mistaking Lyon's ability to do so well with one (or no) KPF with his oft-stated preference for 2 power forwards whose presence would allow him to implement the game plan he wants.

Reminds me of those journos who insist that Lyon prefers blue-collar toilers to talented champions, as if his preference wasn't for talented guns (a la Hawthorn) who were also prepared to work hard.

Perhaps as a replacement for our sole key forward who is approaching retirement age?

Even then, was it Lyon chasing them, or was it the completely separate list managers?

Do you have a quote for Lyon's preference to play 2 power forwards?

When he was at St Kilda he played Reiwoldt and Kositchzke together. But with only 1 ruckman, with Kosi chopping out. He has hardly ever played 2 key forwards and 2 ruckmen in the same team.

So you're suggesting that if we had of signed Cloke or Riewoldt, they would be playing in the WAFL right now, waiting for the day Pav decided to hang up the boots, when that day could be 2 or 3 years away?

So you missed the interview where Lyon said Pav could play on until he was 36, like Bernie Quinlan?

You're kidding, surely. Ross is most certainly one of the people who has a say in who is brought in as a free agent.

Listen to Lyon's press conferences at St Kilda and you'll learn how desperate Lyon was for a second power forward to partner Riewoldt. Koschitzke was a fragile mess, thanks to horrific mismanagement at the hands of Grant Thomas. Speaking about Kosi on Game Day last year, Lyon was almost in tears recalling the tragedy of the condition he found him in.

Oh. And and there were no ruckmen when he arrived either. So he went out and got Steven King and Michael Gardiner because he wanted to play 2 ruckmen. He played them both - together with Riewoldt and Kosi - in the 2009 GF, just as he played 2 ruckmen (McEvoy and Gardiner) with 2 KPFs in the match that Jimmy Bartel and others have named the best match of all time (Rd 14, 2009, Geelong v St Kilda, when both teams were unbeaten) where Gardiner took that soaring mark and goaled in the dying minutes to snatch the win for St Kilda. Lyon had no seasoned ruckmen left by the 2010 GF rematch, so he had to play McEvoy who got smashed because he was just a baby in footy terms.

If you know anything about Ross you'll know that Ross is devoted to quality KPFs - and he's never had enough.

I think a fair bit Hinges if Mundy stays or Leaves. If mundy stays, freo will get a KPP with the 1st pick. if Mundy Leaves freo, Freo will get a mid with their 1st pick.

I got this feeling who might be gone at the end of the season...

Gumby, Duffy and Simpson.

If Mundy leaves we can have one of each!!

No, I think if we had signed Cloke or Reiwoldt, it's more likely that they would have been played as our primary key forward, and Pav would have played a different role. He's one of the most versatile players in the comp and could play anywhere.
