No, I think if we had signed Cloke or Reiwoldt, it's more likely that they would have been played as our primary key forward, and Pav would have played a different role. He's one of the most versatile players in the comp and could play anywhere.

So you missed the interview where Ross said that Pav's days of playing in the midfield are over for his own welfare?

Like the OTHER key forward??

Pretty sure that Harvey tried your idea before with limited success.

You're too thick to even know when you are trolling.

Not necessarily in the midfield. Perhaps as a high half forward. Or perhaps Ross would play them both and just go with 1 ruckman. He's got the runs on the board for doing just that. Someone said earlier that Ross wanted to play 2 ruckmen at St. Kilka. But in their first GF against Collingwood, he picked only Gardiner and left McEvoy out. Gardiner was injured so McEvoy played in the replay.

Some people say that if we had Cloke and Pavlich that we'd play them both. But do you guys really think that the only time we should play 2 key forwards is if we have 2 of the top 5 in the league in the same team? No other team sets such high standards for key forwards. Like I said, Hawthorn has played Spangher on quite a few occasions this year. Adelaide is playing Josh Jenkins. Sydney plays Sam Reid and Adam Goodes alongside Buddy when Tippett is out. We are quite unique in demanding that to get a game for Fremantle as a key forward you have to be All Australian quality.

Naming guys as emergency and continually not giving them a game isn't quite the encouragement a lot of people seem to think it is. Especially when they don't even fly them over.

Hawthorn sets higher standards for young key forwards than we do:

Tim O'Brien (pick #28, 2012 ND) played 0 games in his 1st year, 0 games in his 2nd year, 3 games in total.
M Taberner (pick #70, 2013 ND) played 4 games in his 1st year, 6 games in total.

Any chance of actually substantiating your next grand statement?

I only went to half a dozen or so sessions during the pre-season but all the match sims I saw featured Gumby playing at the traditional FF position and Pav playing traditional CHF. Pav often provided instructions to Gumby during the sims regarding positioning and running patterns. This setup continued into the pre-season games until Gumby got injured. With all the effort the club put into getting this setup working I believe the Boss had every intention of using it in the season proper.

If The Ape Man develops into something, should we still play 2 ruckmen?

These are the thoughts that keep me up at night.

Seriously Crippa, you know your stuff. The way you took down Pokerspiv's feeble argument was very impressive. Even as he changed the goalposts from Pavlich being shot, to Pavlich moving to the midfield, to a high half forward position.... The mind boggles.
I know you followed Ross Lyon over to us. You aren't married to him by any chance? Smiley.

So you're suggesting that if we had of signed Cloke or Riewoldt, they would be playing in the WAFL right now, waiting for the day Pav decided to hang up the boots, when that day could be 2 or 3 years away?

Keep going Pokerspiv - you're starting to make me look good.

No but I've had the hots for his wife for years.

Ross Lyon has shown his preference for playing 2 tall forwards by chucking millions at Travis Cloke. If Cloke isn't a lumbering key forward I don't know what is.
Or you know, playing Kosi and Riewoldt in the same team when the Saints were at their best.

Problem is there isn't anyone ready to play in the same team as Pav, a problem that isn't Lyon's doing at all (and something he has tried to rectify).

1 has played 2 games since tearing his hamstring in half, 1 is recovering from an ACL tear and the other two are young and would not provide anything more than what we currently have (based on actually watching them).

Wait a minute...are you saying that you actually formed your opinion based on getting out and going to games which the players we are talking about played in? And that is somehow what has informed your posts?

What a waste of time and an inefficient use of energy. Just extract an opinion from your rectum Wig or stop taking up internet space with your ramblings.

Hawthorn plays 2 key forwards and 2 rucks every week. When they had buddy they played 4 talls in their forward line. O'Brien and Spangher have both played this year alongside Roughhead, Gunston and Hale, giving them 4 talls.

Taberner played his 4 games while Pavlich was injured. In at least 2 of those games he was our only key forward. He's only played 2 games this year despite excellent WAFL form.
