Quite tasty too

12. Fremantle – Lachie Weller

Broadbeach
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 71 kg
Position: Midfielder
Player comparison: David Swallow
Strengths: Great skills, stoppage work, professionalism
Areas needing improvement: Strength

Weller can really find the ball, but I do wonder what he would be like if he played for a stronger team. He’s really silky on the outside and has a booming kick on him. By hand, he is very clean and his decision making skills are first rate. He can win his own ball on the inside and he is excellent at not only getting the clearance, but also placing his kick to a target, rather than just bombing it when he gets it. He’s been plying his trade at the Brisbane Academy, but he doesn’t qualify as an academy player. I’m sold on him now. He has a terrific leap and took a screamer in the final against NSW right in front of my eyes. He has everything going for him. He is a terrific athlete and his skills are sublime. Gold Coast might choose Weller over Laverde, which would be a great choice in my eyes.

If only :) Sounds like a solid bloke with his head in the right spot

Despite not remembering his time in WA, he often returns to Perth to visit family and said it was his home away from home.

"I definitely see myself as a West Australian at heart," Brayshaw said.

Angus' WA roots are linked to his choice of football team because he followed his mum's lead and barracks for Fremantle.

A 187cm midfielder, he loves watching David Mundy, Nat Fyfe, and Ryan Crowley play.

Interesting we bid on Jack Hiscox (Sydney matched) and Zaine Cordy (Doggies matched) in the father son/academy selections.

Sydney get their first and second rd picks for much less than they are worth as usual.

Bondy did mention in his interview that we target the 190-192cm players in the draft so that kind of makes me think that we could be looking at Lamb with our first selection. Anyway with our first pick I would be happy with Lamb, Goddard, DeGoey or Weller. In fact I will be happy with who ever we pick as it seems to be a fairy even spread of players after maybe the first 2 or 3.

I'm pretty sure that there's been a thread on this in the recent past, but given today's activity where do we stand with Father/Son selections? From memory the WAFL player father/son deal is finishing after 20 years, and given that all of the fathers from this morrning's selections played in the 1980's it seems to me as if Father/Son drafting for us will be a non-event for the next decade. Am I being overly pessimistic here?

Also, is it possible for us to create an academy like what exists in NSW? That the COLAs have picked up one of the best young mids pretty cheaply is interesting and if we're allowed to replicate that scenario we should be putting resources into it.

i guess the positives for us (in the future) is that the list 2000s and 2010s is a lot more. it comes with us being a better club in general

Hang on, from memory, didn't you like Hinkley? :p

Apologies if I'm mistaken.
He lost all credibility for mine when he kept crapping on about Hinkley deserving a call up to Freo and then latter admitted that he was just looking at his stats and hadn't actually seen a single game played for Swans. It was laughable as someone that had the misfortune witnessing him torch the football for the Black Ducks all season.

That's a bit harsh. He's probably one of the two most insightful posters when it comes to the draft on the whole forum, let alone the Freo board. We all have players we rate that others don't, most of us go on about stats in the WAFL when talking about performances because very few of us can get down to the games, Chris isn't the only one. Bit harsh in my opinion.
