List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

Agree. If Caleb can't get drafted there is something wrong with the system. Kid is a genius. When you have that much determination you find a way. He would be a ball magnet at any level.
Caleb is who I was talking about when we were discussing Garlett and natural ability/ things that can be taught. If you can find the ball, it doesn't matter if you're big or small, you can do it. Same with goal kicking. This kid is a gun and always will be. He knows how to get the ball. This cannot be taught and beep test, 20m sprints, vertical leaps mean jack. F he can use it and do it under pressure, he will be a champion of the game.

I still reckon we might go tall early again but if Lloyd and co see another player who they rate as significantly better than the talls available they'll pick them. I think that may have been the strategy for a while tbh. For example in 2011 all the talls picked after Sheridan have been average so far while in 2012 Simpson was the best available at the time by a large margin.

Not sure best available literally means best available. It'd be more like the player most likely to have a significant impact at our club. A certain weight would be put on needs but it certainly isn't the whole picture. Strictly speaking Apeness probably wasn't the best available last year and I'm sure if a player our recruiters ranked in the top 10 was still available they would've overlooked the tall once again. If Goddard and/or Durdin are available I reckon we'll take them.

I would be amazed if Goddard, Durdin or Marchbank are not with us next year. The KPPs are rated till around Adelaide pick so will be available as legitimate best available options.

Would I like Pickett, de Goey, Langdon etc? You bet. But we not get another shot at such a good tall prospect for a while.

So if our first pick is going to be the best mid available, what type of mid do we need? Tall swingmen like Lamb, inside nuggety types, pocket rockets like Pickett, Garlett or Caleb.. or mid-sized all rounders like Cockatoo?

Outside run and skill. Pickett would be amazing.

...would friggin' love having pickett, but there is zero chance of him making it to pick13.

Unfortunately you are right, but that's the type we need most. We lack speed and class.

Gees I hope Durdin is the bloke with his back to the camera and not the one looking at it!

“I might be capable of pinch-hitting in there but most AFL ruckmen are 203-plus centimetres, so I see myself more as a centre half-forward or centre half-back.

“I’ve been playing as a key position player for a couple of years and think that is where I’ll be best suited
.’’

Yes, he is the Number 36 with back to the camera in the previous post.

We should have bought Garlett. Would have been excellent backup in case Ballantyne or Walters went down. Would have also pressured them to perform even more. James Frawley can GAGF. So can Mitch Clark.

Going tall according to Kim.

LITTLE-KNOWN South Australian Sam Durdin could be Fremantle’s next key position prodigy through next month’s national draft.

The Dockers are looking at drafting Durdin on November 27 as they look to replace champions Matthew Pavlich and Luke McPharlin.

So Hagdorn says we are going tall? That proves it. We must be going short.
Is there anyone shorter than Caleb Daniel?

I thought Adelaide would take him with pick 10 but I doubt he will get to them now.

I can't see Geelong taking him as they already have too many talls on their list, he may well fall to the Dockers at 13 & I would rate him above Goddard & Marchbank who are similar types.
Can you please tell me if we have only the 2 draft picks?
I thought each club had to take at least 3 players in the draft.

Each team has to make at least three places available on their main lists. This means Fremantle must delist at least one more player before the draft to go with the Bradley and Gumbleton retirements.
It also means that Freo must draft 3 players in the AFL draft, but since a few years ago, those three drafts could include a player upgraded from the Rookie List (A or B).

May be a question for Chris but Adelaide seem to have dropped some handy players. Spina and Battersby were highly regarded and have been dropped after 1 year on the rookie list. Petrenko and Lewis Johnston seemed to be playing reasonable footy too.

Which statement can be more easily recognised as coming from our very own Michalangelo of the west?

Statement 1. "Eagles list managers met on Friday to establish a selection strategy and are believed to have now examined alternatives to Pickett."

Statement 2. "A Dockers recruiting department meeting this week determined that key position imports are a must."

Can't imagine any of them filling a need. I liked Battersby going into the draft, but he didn't improve a great deal in the SANFL last year. A bit like Haiden Schloithe, maybe there's something there but nothing more than rookie depth. Otherwise, Petrenko is simply not a good footballer. And Johnston has failed at two clubs now.

Taylor Hunt from Geelong is probably the only player I'd really be looking at as a delisted free agent. Just a good defensive midfielder who'd probably fit a Lyon game style, not much more to his game than that. He'd be competing with Clancee and Suban though.

I assume he read my phantom draft and saw Durdin going to Fremantle?
