List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

Draft write ups are talking about his heavy training loads. It's good to see he can hold up under the weight of those numbers.
They also talk about his adherance to structures in all applications, so structurally speaking, it's not surprising to hear Steele will hold up well if he lands at Freo

Steele by name and Steel by nature eh? Sounds alright. (Actually a family joke as my Grandmother was a Steele).

Assuming the drafting teams above us suffer synchronized brain aneurysms - and Jarrod Pickett is available at pick 13 as a result... would we take him over a KPP? Myself I think "best available" is still a great philosophy, but doing so in this case might rob us of some good KPP prospects... then again, in losing Simpson we also lost one of our fastest future mids, and we're not the quickest team around right now.

For the record, I think we've picked well with our KPP yoof over the last few drafts, so I'd back them in and make Pickett the tastiest morsel in the chocolate box once our turn came... but that's just me. Anyone else here willing to take a quality mid over a great KPP prospect at our first pick?

Honestly if Pickett was available I'd snap him up in a heartbeat over the kpps. Players of his pace AND skill are just as rare as quality kpps. He's exactly what we need and could make a difference next year even. Not only that it's looking increasing likely Keitel will be available at our second pick. Having said all that doubt Pickett will get past both Geelong and West Coast.

Personally wouldn't be against using our first two picks on kpps as long as we go for small defender and/or pacy types after that.

Listened again to Brad Lloyd's interview after the trade period and he made mention of the priorities as a key back, key forward and top up to the midfield. He also stated that we have invested in some talls in the last few years and named Taberner, Apeness, A.Pearce, T.Smith, Hannath and Moller. They're backing themselves to develop them was another point he made.

All of that tends to suggest to me that they will go for the best available at pick 13 whether it's a tall or a mid without a bias either way. If Pickett is there and they think he's the best of what is left, I expect they'll pick him.

It isn't just that he may be "best available", and anyway I hardly think that is a definitive term. He would bring a significant point of difference to our list. While there may be some decent KPPs available at that pick, there is likely to be in the 2nd round as well, without a little fall off in quality that can be made up with application and attitude (Keitel, MacDonald, Buykx-Smith, McGovern). He is also local, which is unlikely to be a major factor, but it is a plus for me.

I would really like Loersch with our first rookie spot. It'd be a surprise if he went in the national draft so surely he'll be lingering around. The guy is as tall as Taberner but naturally bigger and way more aggressive, he hits the contest and is hugely proactive in packs. He gets to ground level and can scoop up the footy and not linger, standing where other guys his height would. Seems the kind of guy we should go after, but people always seem way more fascinated by mystical Victorians...

I like the sound of him, thank you Mystical Victorian :)

He is taller than Taberner and Apeness. Same height as Clarke.

What are people's thoughts on cockatoo with our first pick if we were to go for a mid? Has missed a lot of footy this year due to injury which means he will slide. Could be a very very good player with a bit of an X factor. Personally I don't think we are a chance of getting Pickett as the eagles will snap him up if he is there at their pick

I recon Geelong will be into him first and probably why they traded to get ahead of West Coast. They lost Varcoe and Christensen in the trade period so they must be close to the slowest team in the league.

I would only be happy with a mid at 13 if either they are a top prospect that has slid, or all of the 4 or 5 good KPP prospects that are reportedly around the top 10 this year are gone

By the sounds of things, 13 is right around the mark to land a top quality KPP. If we'd have had 13 last year we'd have McCarthy (by all reports)

203cm, 104kg, 60 goals as a part time ruck ticks a lot of boxes.

What I found interesting though is "It is a long way from playing as a specialist forward at Hale at 184cm and 96kg two years ago". That is a solid (or fat) 17 year old

Also, does putting on 10kg and 20cm in 12 months have any implications?
