List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

From main board rumour file. If true might explain the late call up for Durdin to the draft and why we are now being linked to Goddard and Lever again. Of course that will also mean a very good midfielder may fall our way.

Sam Durbin will go top ten was told yesterday :) yes a friend of his mum told me.

Langford is looking like going to Collingwood at 5 :)

North Melbourne want ReeceMcKenzie at 14

Dogs want Vickers-Williss and D.McKenzie also keen on McDonald and Webb

Probably out of this group according to Emma Quayle. Hard to believe Laverde may be available.

"it will depend what happens earlier of course but I'd think guys like Duggan, Laverde, Lever, Goddard, Marchbank, Durdin will be in their mix."

Another key forward for North?

I wish

Pick 5: Collingwood – Jayden Laverde

Position: Midfielder

Height: 190 cm, Weight: 82 kg, DOB: 12/04/1996

Club: Western Jets

Projected draft range 6-20

Plays like: Scott Pendlebury

One of the most exciting players of the draft with arguably the best highlights reel, Laverde is blessed with traits AFL clubs struggle to find across two or three players, let alone have them all in one. The epitome of an athletic and speedy midfielder who can play every position well, Laverde is a sublime mover. He glides through the wings with poise and speed, and loves to cut through congestion with long strides where he can burst out from a contested situation and run the ball. Laverde is another tall midfielder with a thumping yet accurate kick, and is one of the more damaging players available in this year’s draft. His agility and almost arrogant sidestep means he dances around opponents with ease. Laverde has shown a propensity to take the game on and is a natural goal kicker, whether from a set shot or on the run. His disposal efficiency ranks among the elite in the AFL, and he’s been known to fly for a few hangers throughout his journey, coupling a distinct x-factor with an already impressive skill set. He loves the ball in his hands. He is often the instigator in attacking forays, and has the rare ability to swing momentum into his team’s favour. His versatility is highly favoured, but he looks his best playing through the midfield or on a wing. That being said, he can just as easily be sent to rest forward or back. where he can use his strong marking game and elite endurance to cut games open.

Player update: A quad complaint leading into the National Draft combine meant that he wasn’t able to partake in physical testing.

Pick 12: Richmond – Liam Duggan

Position: Defender/midfielder

Height: 183 cm, Weight: 76 kg, DOB: 11/12/1996

Club: Western Jets

Projected draft range: 10-25

Plays like: Steele Sidebottom

A bubbly character off-field, the ‘baby-faced assassin’ is another draft prospect that is gifted in terms of poise, hurt factor and game-winning attributes. Duggan won the Ben Mitchell medal for this year’s AFL-AIS intake, and has an arsenal of weaponry that far exceeds most in this year’s draft crop. Playing in an array of positions, Duggan offers get-up-and-go from half back, is particularly dangerous around the stoppages, and loves to run and carry with his line-breaking speed. The talented left footer has also shown he’s dangerous and effective around goal, kicking three final-quarter goals against the Northern Knights earlier in the year from just four disposals in a come-from-behind win. Duggan’s penetrating kick is his primary asset, but his ability to read the ball well in the air – along with both good vision and speed – suggests his best position will eventually be situated in the midfield with resting stints at half back. Despite his slim build, Duggan can win his own ball and tackles strongly. Coupled with his rebounding and attacking style of play as well as his long left foot, Duggan would be a welcome addition to Punt Road.

Comment from the mainboard about our first pick

They might take Marchbank over Lever if they feel Lever isn't quite tall enough to fill a key position role. Champion data yesterday said that Marchbank is a pure key position player whereas they believe Lever is more of a 3rd tall/rebounding type. But the opinion on both changes depending on who you listen to :p

How much do you want to believe this guy - North have pick 16

I really hope Goddard goes before our pick or we leave him. Gut feel isn't good about him.

He has a reputation. Pinch of salt. However Durdin did get a late call up to the draft and there is speculation that he is either a back-up plan for a clubs top 10 or he is going top ten. Mothers friend aside:)

Marchbank isn't exactly a giant himself, well, not until Thursday anyway.

One is 192 84 and the other is 193 85 so they are rather similar. Maybe they are looking at the way they play with their size rather then their actual size. Johnson is 195 and plays like a third tall not a KPP.

Clever play on words the giant thing:thumbsu:

I read somewhere that both were at about 192cm but I wouldn't trust that, neither is a true key position size at this point, not when they will be competing against the 200cm key forwards drafted in the last few years.

I do have my moments :)

Marchbank is 191.7 cm and Lever is 192.9 cm. Lever also has a ludicrous 205 cm wingspan which allows him to play taller.

They both have a rebounding component to their game but I would say Lever is much more capable of the two when playing as a stopper.

I think Marchbank is going to be a quality player as he seems like a confident footy lad who will fit in well at a footy club, but I can't see the club picking him ahead of genuine KPP prospects like Wright, Lever or even Durdin (who I don't really rate).

I would say a bit more growing to do yet then.

Well straight after the pre-draft meeting is when the leaks normally come out. This time last year is when we found out we were keen on Apeness

So it sounds like we'll be taking a KPD, which means any of Lever, Goddard, Durdin or Marchbank. It also sounds like GWS will be taking one of them, so we'll have to wait and see who is left. In order I would prefer Lever, Goddard, Durdin, Marchbank
