We're obviously pretty confident in the KPPs we have currently. But, not one tall? Don't . recall Keitel going anywhere, maybe a chance for a rookie spot
Know what I love? We were all asking for more class and better leg speed all over the ground, and that's exactly what we got.

Pearce,Apeness,Taberner,Smith,Moller,Vandeleur,Clark,Irish all young talls and Freo obviously have faith in them. Griff waiting in the wings with the oldies in Pav,Johno,Mac,Dawson.

Was hoping McDonald slipped too our pick at 54 but was one off. Weller will improve our team from next year I reckon and you just don't overlook Blakely at 34. Unfortunate about no talls but we got two guns and probably didn't rate any of talls available after our second. Not a bad result. Did like Keitel so hopeful he's still at our first pick (or second if we play safe on Smith) next Wednesday.

Pick 8: Gold Coast – Lachie Weller
Position: Midfielder
Height: 181 cm, Weight: 71 kg, DOB: 23/02/1996

Projected draft range: 6-15
Plays like: Dayne Beams
A player whose teammates desperately want the ball in the hands of, Lachie Weller is slick, polished and has loads of hurt factor. Weller is a brilliant decision maker and a player that goes about it with a certain flair that makes him a bit of an excitement machine. He’s got speed and is a touch flamboyant, yet he is arguably the most well-rounded and refined midfielder in this year’s draft crop. The medium-sized midfielder wins his own ball on the inside, and can hurt the opposition on the outside just as easily. In particular, I rate his desperation to move the ball on, often arching his back and finding space to zip past opponents and offer some pizzazz in front of goal. He’s got some features of his game that go unnoticed to the regular fan, namely his work ethic and gut running, whilst his transition running rates within among the best in an AFL sense. He pushes behind the ball and likes to get his hands dirty in defence, but he’ll just as quickly be involved in a link of handballs and kicking goals on the counter.
Player update: Weller suffered bone bruising in his leg in the Allies’ outing against the AFL Academy squad, which ruled him out of testing at the combine.
Pick 33: Richmond – Connor Blakely
Position: Midfielder
Height 187 cm, Weight: 81 kg, DOG: 2/3/1996

Winning All-Australian honours this year, Connor Blakely made a statement in game one of the National Championships, accumulating 26 disposals, seven tackles, nine clearances, 17 contested possessions and seven inside 50s. The Swan Districts product has featured heavily in senior WAFL games this year after making his debut as a 17-year-old in 2013, going onto average 20 disposals and two tackles a game this season. Blakely has been praised for his courage and has no qualms matching it with opposition much older than he is. He ticks the boxes in terms of tackling, contested possessions and clearances, and he can also push forward to make an impact. Blakely certainly hangs his hat on his inside game and his work around the stoppages, but that isn’t to undersell his ability on the outside. Blakely is quick to make good decisions by hand or foot and has shown he’s more than capable of playing in defence or up forward, adding versatility to his game.

It's funny when you think about it - on one hand we're complaining that we have no developing talls on our list, yet in the next breath we complain that Peel has too many talls to fit in one team.
Probably pointless information but Hawthorn played three defenders in the grand final. They were Lake, Gibson and Spangher. All from other clubs. I'd guess they'd be plenty of key defenders (Richards, Chaplin, Rivers, Frawley, Frost, Delaney etc) in the afl who have switched clubs compared to key forwards. Success rate of key defenders isn't particularly high I would've thought and of the starting 18 kpds throughout the afl they seem to come from a variety of different areas of the draft. First round, second round, late in the draft, rookies etc. It might cost us a first rounder down the track but at least we'll know what we are getting.
Although I would have like to see a Goddard or during picked up I'm really happy with the quality of players we drafted today. Weller will hopefully challenge D Pearce for a spot in the 22 soon and Blakely is pretty much ready to go and could make a difference to our midfield next year. Not too sure about Langdon tbh he seems a bit of an iffy pick and not sure if he is better than Crozier and Duffy who play in similar positions. De Luca on the other hand is very exciting and could be the new Lachie or Sutty. I know someone who worked with Subi this year and they said he is not only a great player but also a great person who really has his head screwed on. If we can get Keitel I will be stoked with this draft.

Agree with this altho I think Tom and Hayden will have breakout years in 2015.
We seem to like picking up 18 year old with state league experience. Gray, Duffy, Neale, Sutcliffe etc. Now we have Deluca and Blakely too. I'm especially happy with Blakely, I was hoping he'd slip to us
Not sure how it chances anything for Clancee. Hasnt played midfield for two seasons now. None of our draftees are medium defenders at all. Duffield is 30 next year and if next year is his last it's quite possible that Clancee would walk into the 22, although I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of our mids move back over the next few years.
Thing about three of these guys though (Langdon being the odd one out) is that they've played very little footy at under 18 level and have played mainly against men. Our fringe midfielders will need to be on their toes.
And of course D.Pearce has played 49 consecutive games for Fremantle and his 50th from a possible 50 will be round one 2015.
He isn't being dropped any time soon.
