Mostly, but we did do it to Adelaide last year with Aidan Riley. I'm concerned Richmond would jump on him if they could get him for nothing as a DFA.
I would only be concerned by another club swooping if I were Casey's coach. Other than that neither McKenzie nor Evans serve any useful puropse.

Indeed I woukd encourage Richmond to continue the fine tradition of picking up our spuds for very limited returns.

Think he was referring to Richmond taking JT if we tried to delist and rerookie him

Signing him as a DFA is different to drafting him. Riley/Trengove had/have to agree to terms with the new club in both instances.

Nobody is going to be swooping on Jack Trengove. He's only an outside chance to ever play again - who is going to invest in him besides us, who have an obligation to him. Anyone who picks him up faces medical costs and the unlikely prospect of him ever playing for them. It makes sense to put him on the rookie list for a season while we see if he can actually rehabilitate this disastrous foot of his. Why not have the option to play another player?

Yes they will, plenty of teams would bank on the chance that he'll get fit if they can get him for nothing.

We gain nothing by put him on the rookie list.

Putting money into his medical care, rehab and training with poor likelihood of any return on the investment is nothing?

Don't we get to promote another player to the senior list?

He's got a lot of work today but there's not reason why he can't get back, they all thought Hird was rooted and he proved them wrong.

We can promote a player from the rookie list by putting him on the LTI which is the best scenario for us.

All you have to ask yourself is , is it worth potentially losing trenners to take a bloke at 53
Trenners will probably walk out next year after tried to trade him out

Given looks like he won't play a game next year either, why would anyone touch him?

Too much of a risk. He'll be ours for at least another year post-2015.

I don't disagree to the general point you're making but I don't think Trengove will have access to Shane Charters during his recovery. ;)

I CBF going back to read all the posts, but are people suggesting we do the shit bloke move of the millenium and try to drop a guy who may never play again down to $55k salary?

Can they do that? I would have thought the salary part of his contract was set in stone. Could be wrong.

yeah I'd be surprised if you could just demote a player onto rookie list with corresponding pay because he's injured. AFLPA would have something to say about that surely.

No one is suggesting anything about his salary - we couldn't change that mid-contract.

The worst thing for Trengove would be if he has a clause around a minimum number of games, but that would have been something he agreed to.

I don't think we'll be shafting Jack Trengove in any way.

Once tipped to be No.1, big man could go at pick 10

Callum Twomey reckons McCartin and Petracca are going top 3 i.e. either to St Kilda, or to us along with Brayshaw. This is pretty obvious but again slightly firms perception of what our decision will be. Wright set to slide. Might have some mail that we aren't keen (along with other clubs). Hoping this is the case.

No, if we were suggesting that, we would have suggested that. His contract takes care of his salary for now. After this contract expires, we can't keep paying him what we have been though. Jack has to play some football to be paid like a footballer.

Don't see why Melbourne would do that, they still have all that salary cap to use up. No big fish trades to take up salary. Might as well front-end Trengove's contract in preparation for 2016 onwards.

I'd be surprised if he slid to 10 - Geelong would be pretty happy with that.
