If we end up with picks 2 and 3 we might have to make a bit of noise about McCartin and Wright, hopefully we can scare Saints into thinking twice before sending pick 1 to the Giants.

What percentage are we talking about of getting a 1st round pick for Frawley leaving? 50/50? 90%? Most people round here are pretty confident we will get a genuine 1st round pick for him. I'm not so sure.

Less chance than six weeks ago!

I'm betting on mid-first now.

I don't think anyone knows, its 50/50 in my mind.

What sort of contract do we think Frawley would have to sign in order for us to get round 1 pick? It would have to be at least $600K over 4 years but then again I'm not certain as to how the formula works. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm betting on mid-first now.

A mid first will hold currency though at the trade table. Will most likely ensure we keep our pick 2 and trade the one we get for Frawley. The AFL may step in and offer us pick 3 if Frawley leaves as a way of getting around the whole priority pick. Over compensate if you like. I wouldn't think that is out of the question. Petracca/Wright can only help our cause. Throw in our (supposed) talented players who are still very young: Viney, Toumpas, Trengove, Gawn, McDonald, Hogan, Tyson, Michie, JKH, Salem, Kent, Stretch(most likely) and there is still a lot to work with. Personally, I'd trade Watts. We'd probably get a low 1st rounder for him. He is never going to provide us what we need. He has some good skills, but he's not a footballer. The amount of times he lets an opponent run past him and take an uncontested mark is ridiculous! He ball watches, refuses to get his hands dirty at all, doesn't man up, is lazy and is a frustration to all supporters. Let him go while he is worth something.

Given the AFL's overarching discretion is included in the rules as 'cover' when assigning compensation picks, I'd be surprised if we aren't looked after.

As Frawley's value diminishes with our poor performances, so does our eligibility for a priority pick increase.

I think it's pretty easily arguable that losing Frawley would be a huge blow to our club, given where we're at, and I'd be surprised if they dont give us either top compensation or a priority pick.

It's either an immediate pick or end of round pick, there are no mid-round compensation picks iirc

No priority pick but I reckon we will receive best possible outcome for Frawley.
Gives us a boost but AFL won't have to put up with the whinging about a PP.

What is the scenario if Dees get a priority pick from AFL is it likely to be;

Dees finish #17 so get pick #2 &;
Priority pick is #3?

Given it is at the AFL's discretion, we would imagine that scenario to be extremely unlikely.

I think, if we were to get another priority pick, it would be a 2nd rounder, along with a 2nd rounder for Frawley. So we'd end up with 2, 20, 21, 22.

That doesn't mean anything. The compensation pick will be decided by the salary he gets.

I never said we deserve a 1st round pick for him, Im saying that what ever we get will be 'fair' return for losing him and in no way should it be linked to discussions of a PP

Never said anything about a PP. What I am saying is that if Frawley only manages to get a 500k per year contract, you will get an end of first round compensation pick.

If another club is silly enough to pay him 600k-750k per year, you will get another top 5 pick.

All Australian Accolades have no bearing on what band you will receive.

Seriously, we get it.

Move along.

Out of interest, are the majority of the MFC guys here happy we've applied for a PP? I personally think it's a disgrace.

I dunno... I think we are doing our due dilligence by applying for one
Also if we get rejected I hope the AFL once and for all removes it as an option

It's a disgrace and we're a disgrace, but if the rule is there, why not (ab)use it. Personally I just want to get one to see everyone else lose their shit. If we'd been this bad 5 years earlier we'd probably be up to three straight years of having the first two picks in the draft. They just need to bin the priority pick rule and everyone will be fine with it.

I think we'd have gained more culturally if we came out stating 'we're not interested in a priority pick even if it's on the table'

(Then engineer the best possible compo for Frawley leaving...)
