I went on a Demon related site and the people there are overwhelmingly in favour of us getting a PP.

This is the attitude that got us where we are. There are no quick fixes and we have improved this year already ffs. I'm as embarrassed by the Gws performance as anyone else here but seriously, another handout?

Trading in a retirement village eg. Rok, malceski & Sewell is not the answer. If it's to be a cull it needs to be youth driven with a small smattering of experience. If we are trading high end picks they can't be for blokes over 23.

We've been deplorable for eight years now & if it takes another two years under Roos getting predominantly kids in the right physical & mental shape to move forward so be it.

We need to back Roos & his coaches to develop any youngsters that come in from here on.

We all know that the past included massive failures in coaching, recruiting & development. I have faith that this time round we do have the right people (coaches) in place to ensure development won't be the issue. The unknown still is our 'newish' recruiting department.

As for the PP, we are entitled to ask the question. Those that are appalled/embarrassed are kidding themselves. If that's what makes you feel that way, I'm not sure you've actually watched or endured the past 8 yrs.

That's what makes me embarrassed & appalled, not asking the AFL commission to consider a draft concession that they have mandated for clubs in our on-going situation!

Thoughts on drafting a key back in the first round? We would need to trade into a position to get someone like Durdin (range 4-8 I think?) or Goddard (a bit lower) or someone else.

Frawley is leaving. Like it or not he's still our best tall defender. Dunn is undersized, McDonald is an absolute liability with ball in hand, and Garland has been uninspiring. After that we have Pedersen, Georgiou and Howe. We need more support there.

From the Melbouenfc website, which I assume is updated at the start of each year;

Dunn - 192cm 98kg
Frawley - 193cm 94kg
McDonald - 194cm 94kg
Garlo - 191cm 90kg
Pedo - 193cm 96kg
Howe - 190cm 86kg

Pretty similar across the board, Dunn apparently the heaviest of the lot, he definitely did put on weight over summer so he could play a key position, stronger than he has been in previous seasons.

Based on that I don't think we need a top of the range key defender in this draft, even without Frawley we have 3 key options, plus Garlo and Howe as midsized options. I would consider a 2nd rounder or 4th rounder on a key defender to develop in the VFL, but we still need to focus on using all our top range picks on midfielders.

After venting all of my frustration yesterday and watching 360 last night where Bomber put his opinion on the situation saying it is just a bump in the road at the end of a long season. I have woken today am hoping this is true. The majority of this season has been a vast improvement on the previous years. Over the past 3 years we have won just 10 games. 4 in 2012, 2 in 2013 and 4 so far this year. Looking at that doesn't show that much improvement, but if you look at the average losing margin you will see a vast improvement. The average losing margin in the past 3 years has been 51 in 2012, 64 in 2013 and 35 this year. More importantly is the blowouts. We have only had one defeat of 70+ this year which was by 93 points, compared to last year where we had 8 defeats of 70+ and 2 120+ massacre's. So defensively we have made massive inroads this year which I think is a huge step.

On the weekend we saw a very sub par result. We all saw the looks on the players faces on the weekend, they were absolutely embarrassed. We can only hope that this will make them ask serious questions of themselves about who they are and if they want to be AFL players. It is a very long season and as a player it must be hard to rock up at round 20+ knowing you are only playing for pride. What the players must realise is that the last few weeks of this season is like a mini pre-season. They need to keep their structures and when they have the ball in their hands, take the game on and play with no fear. I am sure this is exactly what the coaching staff will be telling them.

I hope the next two weeks will show all of the Melbourne fans that this week was just a week where the players forgot to turn up. I know they are AFL players and they get paid to turn up prepared, but this is a team that has been missing leadership for many years and when things start going bad they are surrounded by quick sand. The good teams have at least 6 leaders that stand up when things go bad. Unfortunately I think we would be lucky to have 2 or 3. We need players all over the ground to step up when needed. I hope we can trade some picks/players to find the leaders we need.

As for the priority pick, I think it is perfectly fine to ask for it. Why not? The rules are there and we are just playing by them. We all know about our past failures of our management and coaches. They basically did everything possible to kill a football team. The biggest stuff up they did was getting rid of senior players like James McDonald. Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Even St Kilda are all prime examples of how to re-build a football club. They are all using the same methodology for the re-build. Keep the core senior players that understand what it takes to win and build around them. The older guys teach the younger guys. We stuffed up big time. Sure St Kilda are sitting on the bottom of the table, but they still have guys in there that know how to win. Even if they aren't playing senior football, they are still at training taking drills with them and teaching the young guys their first hand experience. The game evolves so quickly and there is only so much a coach that played 20+ years ago can teach.

One thing we can all guarantee is that it is going to be an interesting off season.

I don't read purple's articles anymore, what's the point?

As for the PP... I don't really know what to say. Bloody tired of this club trying to find solutions to our woes outside of those who actually pull on the guernsey each week and represent the MFC.

Apart from Nate Jones and maybe a handful of others (if that); what a pea hearted bunch of hacks. Moping around the footy field like a bunch of depressed emo teens bummed about how tough life is being young, rich and playing the game you love. "Ooooh I HaTe te werld cos out Coaches r mean and just don't Understaand MEEEEE:S".

Roosy, you have my permission to gut this list as violently and with as much disregard for common courtesy as you wish. WITH NO SURVIVORS! (except Jonesy.. love ya Jonesy.

Pick 3 for a player and a pick which could get us Durdin would be a good move.

I think we might be looking at more immediate needs/options though unfortunately. Durdin wouldn't be expected to cement a senior spot for at least 2 or 3 seasons.

I'm sure Roos will be thrilled you've given him that....

The scrutiny on footballers is immense, I don't envy them - despite how much money they get paid.

I think we definitely need to recruit a first round calibre KPD. Happy to go along with that as long as we get at least 2 top mids - at least 1 of which from the first round, the other possibly via trade. They are our priority but a PP would definitely put a KPD on the table.

You've pretty much summed up our defensive situation.

I think we also need to look at what Ruck options are available to us now rather than later. Jamar in twilight, Gawn still a lot of learning to be had, Spencer is Spencer & Fitz is Fitz. If there is a likely ruck option in 2nd round worthy of that pick then hit it as a long term option but we also need to trade in a ruck for the mid term option as well. Losing Clark was a double whammy.

To my mind, the debate about whether we should or shouldn't apply for a PP comes down to two competing camps.

1. We need the extra pick to get in more talent (either drafted or traded for).
2. We need the pride that comes from saying we can do this ourselves and rejecting outside help.

Both cases have big weaknesses. We clearly haven't been able to draft/trade and develop talent and we clearly haven't been able to improve things by ourselves.

In my view, the need for more talent is greater and should provide a faster path back to respect, than relying solely on pride.

We should absolutely ask for the PP, but make sure that its PJ as CEO making the request. Then let Roos and the Footy Department pump hard on 'playing with pride'.

That and I too enjoy watching the melt downs from Flog Barrett and the main board.
