I'm not sure why people have stated MFC has had that many PP over the years.

In the last 10 years

PP
2004 Deledio 1, Roughead 2, Griffen 3
2005, Murphy 1, Thomas 2 , Ellis 3
2006 Hampson 17, Jetta 18
2007 Kruzer 1, Rance 17
2008 Blease 17, Shuey 18
2009 Scully 1
2010 Darling 26
2011 27 Kerridge, 27 McIness, 28 Foster? Listed as priority picks but can't figure out why so will leave out.
2012/13 none

So
Carlton has 3 (1, 17, 1)
West Coast has 2 (26, 18)
Richmond has 2 (1, 17)
Hawthorn has 2 (2, 3)
MFC has 2 (1,17)
Bullies has 1 (3)
Collingwood has 1 (2)
Essendon has 1 (17)

I'm not embarrassed for asking for Priority Pick.

I'm embarrassed by shit MFc has served up for the last 8 years.

Suits their narrative of us being a club of dole bludgers and bin dippers. We essentially wasted our picks and still get lambasted for it. Guess Hawthorn and Collingwood should be turning their Premiership flags in then, if the outraged masses were remotely consistent.

Ok I see the strategy , trying to convince the afl to give us a pick that we will trade

I think its genuine though - we aren't after more kids.

We have lost a number of players to other clubs (and other circumstances), and are probably about to delist the last of our high picks taken 2+ years ago.

We just need some trade value to get a competitive core of mature players into the club.

Great post Professor.

So 1 of the priority picks we had left for another club, and the other was a dud.

Oh Im not doubting that they will do that, just that it might convince the AFL to give us one if we are going to trade it because then it wont look so bad

Trading in a retirement village eg. Rok, malceski & Sewell is not the answer. If it's to be a cull it needs to be youth driven with a small smattering of experience. If we are trading high end picks they can't be for blokes over 23.

We've been deplorable for eight years now & if it takes another two years under Roos getting predominantly kids in the right physical & mental shape to move forward so be it.

We need to back Roos & his coaches to develop any youngsters that come in from here on.

Agreed with above.

The guy seriously has an issue with our club, sure we haven't really helped ourselves in the past but we also had terrible people in place running the club.

I hope we get it now just to see the look on his stupid little face!
As someone stated earlier. This is going

Malcheski isn't a bad option. He is a free agent and we won't need to trade for him.

Malceski is the only one who might be worth it (as long as we can get him for next to nothing). Can maybe teach our team how to clear the ball smoothly from kick ins. Seeing as, you know, we haven't managed to do so for 7 years.

Won't read; can't force.

If he's against it that should be the best indication that it's not a bad idea.

Can't believe people think it's a bad thing to apply. How much lower can the club go? This time we can get a freebie without having to cheat for it - embrace it, nobody will care if it helps. I was ahead of my time in being against tanking the first time, stuffed if I'm going to try and play the martyr now that we've won 10 games in three years.

That's 10 wins. In 64 matches.

It's not about 'playing the martyr'. The new direction has been about no quick fixes and doing the hard yards. We've shown improvement.

It is my opinion that asking for the PP sends the wrong message at this time. To the supporters, the players and the league.

Showing improvement is fine, but at the moment we're 2% better than Neeld's first season - and there's every possible chance this will not survive the weekend. We've 'improved' back to the level of a barely competitive team. For what it's worth I don't think we should or would get a top 10 pick but some acknowledgement of the fourth worst three season run since 1990 would be justified.

No interest in what the players think. The only ones who should be worried are the hacks who will get the boot if we get better players in. If any of the others don't like it I hope they ask for a trade so we can start again.

We all know that the past included massive failures in coaching, recruiting & development. I have faith that this time round we do have the right people (coaches) in place to ensure development won't be the issue. The unknown still is our 'newish' recruiting department.

As for the PP, we are entitled to ask the question. Those that are appalled/embarrassed are kidding themselves. If that's what makes you feel that way, I'm not sure you've actually watched or endured the past 8 yrs.

That's what makes me embarrassed & appalled, not asking the AFL commission to consider a draft concession that they have mandated for clubs in our on-going situation!

I'd have to agree with that stance. Freo suffered for years because we gave away draft pick after draft pick. When we finally kept our picks and drafted in youth we still got flogged for a couple of years but when the young boys became men we started to play good footy. FWIW you guys have been bad for long enough that I think you should get priority picks. Not having a dig, but your list is terrible. Roos is going to take another 2 years to get you even to a competitive level. You are where we were. I hope he's not silly enough to bring in dads army in hope that it's a quick fix.

Good to see Jimmy say he wants to stick around, I'll admit he hasn't come on as quickly as we needed and I would have been open to trading him for a top 10 pick - but if he wants to stay and work to bring the team back then who are we to turn him away?

I think that's the problem with our club, we expect our draft picks to come on real quick because we have decent senior players, trading him out for a top 10 pick IMO is just putting us further behind.

Toump reminds me a bit of Montanga, wasn't a regular for St Kilda until his 5th season, we need to give all draftees time and not expect them to come on quickly because of our lack of senior talent.

I disagree, I think it should be viewed on a player to player basis - Jimmy played good senior footy in the SANFL and a top ten pick would give us a great bargaining tool for a senior player.

I'm happy to keep him, just that a top ten pick would be too good to refuse.

We need guys who want to be here and are prepared to stick it out, he has the right attitude so I'd say no to trading him

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-08-20/priority-pick-surprise

Alan Richardson says he would be surprised if we got a priority pick, notably:

While Richardson said he supported the priority pick system – and the Saints are yet to announce if they would apply for one too – he couldn't see how the Demons could be gifted one if they finished 17th.

"I think it would be surprising if a club that finishes above you on the ladder ends up with [a pick] and I know it's a culmination when you look back," Richardson said on Wednesday.

"But we've had one draft selection inside pick eight in 10 years.

"Then for a club that finishes higher and has probably been more consistent with their performance, I think they've been in winning positions probably more often than we have in games.

So I guess he wouldn't mind if the AFL gave St Kilda, Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong a priority pick this year? You know, because those teams have so few chances to access top 10 draft picks over the past few years. :drunk:

Not convinced that A. he supports the priority pick system as claimed, and B. that he knows what cumulative means.
