They'd be daft not to trade #1 to GWS for #3 and a player or two (Jaksch, O'Rourke, Whiley, etc). They can still get one of Wright, McCartin, Brayshaw or Petracca with pick #3, so hardly going to be a bust of a deal. If GWS take Petracca and we go with Brayshaw (and get munted on the Frawley compo), they could still have their pick of the talls.

Fairly certain we have pick 3 which means they are trading for pick 4 , which means they are risking losing a good key tall still

We haven't seen a top 3 pick traded for years before last year and I can't see it happening again

Stkilda have the option of the best young tall , why would they trade it for fringe players and a risky shot at getting a key tall

If they swap with GWS I hope we take mcCartin and swap 3 with the bulldogs and they take a key forward just so the saints miss out on one

This is of course under the assumption we get 3 for chip which I'm certain we will
The commission ultimately looks at the formula and then makes up which pick they will hand out

We're being sucked into the Petracca hype big time over here, but not quite as much as St Kilda fans are.

Up until a few weeks ago, Spencer White was playing D League footy. They drafted him into the side to give him a few games and generate some excitement, and now they think he can be Riewoldt's successor and they're free to take a midfielder.

I mean, they have a glaring hole in their forward line, but as long as Roo is there and until his Rennaisance finishes they won't realise it.

They want to downgrade in a trade with GWS, and these are the two proposed deals that I saw.

St Kilda: Pick 3, pick 21
GWS: Pick 1

St Kilda: Pick 3, Jeremy Cameron
GWS: Pick 1, Sam Gilbert

One guy seems convinced that McCartin just couldn't be a star at AFL level, whilst the majority think an inside midfield of Petracca, Dunstan and Murdoch (?) would have opposition teams to scared too put players in the guts.

The reality about these kids (and yes, I'll call them that because I'm finally older than them and my draft dreams are over) is that it's all hype. Very few of us have seen them play regularly, not many have seen them play at all.

Hilarious

Pick 1 for 3-21 .. GWS wins big time

Pick 1 and Cameron for 3 and on old campaigner

Not the slightest chance in hell

Jeremy Cameron is worth more than pick 3 and Gilbert by himself

Not that they would trade him anyway

Haven't seen any of these kids play, so I only go off what I've heard. Mostly on here. Petracca allegedly the best midfield talent, Brayshaw the sure thing. Is that hype?

Is that second deal a joke? I can absolutely picture the mayhem as the GWS list management team trample each other into the dirt to be the guy to sign that one. Gilbert for Cameron and a bit of switcharoo indeed.

First deal I could see happening. A gun kid for a gun kid and a pretty damn good kid is going to appeal to a rebuilding club.

I'm not so sure we'll get #3. Like Rivers, Frawley might take a hit on what he could earn to play for a decent club and have a tilt at finals.

Because they're completely rebuilding their club. As we've seen with Miles and Tyson, GWS have some reasonable players floating around not getting games. If GWS are that keen on #1, St Kilda can squeeze them for a player or two and/or a pick. At the end of the day, 2 or 3 talented kids is a safer bet than 1, even if you have your pick of the draft for that 1. Heppell didn't go #1 in his draft and Fyfe wasn't even in the top 10. Not guaranteed a 350 game, 800 goal player with the #1 pick so if you've got a gaping hole in your list where 6 or 7 250 game players used to be, quantity with a slight downgrade in quality might be preferable.

I probably more hopeful than rational when it comes to this one because we need petracca more than any of the other teams

Or they might be planning on upgrading there rookies

Spot on - Eli Templeton, Mav Weller and Cam Shenton have all put their hands up for a senior spot.

And talk of the Saints downgrading to pick 4 is probably unlikely in my opinion. GWS lost their chance for pick 1 when Patton went down with his knee.

I think we will get pick 3 for Frawley, and if Petracca goes to GWS at 1, it's not out of the question that we take best available in McCartin and trade the other pick to Brisbane/Bulldogs/Carlton - or any other club who is really keen on Wright.

Saints would be spewing if they missed their shot at a high quality KPF - particularly as it's looking like a lean list of quality talls for next years draft.

Just on another thing, the more I look at the draft, the more the consensus is that after Petracca you can virtually throw a blanket over the next 5-6 mids. Which opens me up to trading down.

Which then means who the hell could give us something tasty for the right to Wright...

Sides I consider to be needing a KPF:

Brisbane - Freeman looks okay but a talent shot would be nice.
Carlton - lol Waite and Casboult
Collingwood - They're still after a foil for Cloke...
Essendon - Unless the Carslile experiment continues? Would still be good for them.
Freo - Pav replacement.
Port - It's the one area they're actually thin in beyond Schulz.
Richmond - More pressing needs elsewhere but it's not like Vickery is good
St Kilda - Riewoldt replacement
Bulldogs - Something to free up Cram.

Now, there's one KPF on the trade table right now - that's Casboult. Casboult cannot play full-forward on nine teams, and (realistically) belongs in the second-tier FF group, the Chris Dawes collective.

So surely we could kick off a bidding war for three. Say outright that it's on the table and we want mids who are young and have upside. Perhaps the Giants work their way in with a three-way trade for a ruckman. But that's the way it's going to go right now, and we just need to convince someone to sell the farm.

I think the AFL will give us #3 as a pseudo-priority pick; even if Frawley takes a bit of a pay cut he'll still be getting around 500k+ over 4-5 years, which should get band 1 compo by the 'formula' anyways.
If we do get 2/3 I wouldn't mind just getting Petracca/Brayshaw/one of the talls. The top 3-4 sound good prospects who could play if needed and if we offload our 2nd for another Vince-type then I think we'll have the makings of a very strong midfield and a (potentially) good forward line.
And in a dream world Clark comes back fit and firing, as does Trengove; Hogan gets on the par;, we take Petracca/Brayshaw at 2/3 and march to the flag!

I run off the NFL philosophy that funky-named key players (read: quarterbacks) always run into problems. Keep my names simple, thanks.

Any guesses of where/if we take stretch. Listening to the 'Road to the Draft' podcast and Cal Twomey had him a potential 25-40, meaning our 3rd round pick if we want him.

Third. Anyone who bids top 20 on him is plain silly.

For us to take him with our second rounder, would mean someone would need to bid a first rounder on him (or the Saints second rounder).

Extremely unlikely, in fact it's more likely that he sneaks through to our fourth rounder.

So the third round pick is most likely I'd say.

I don't know much, but I want Dillon Viojo-Rainbow at the Dees. Now.

Really the only reason I want to draft him is to increase the probability of Howe taking a screamer over him, and Dwayne Russell can exclaim with excitement "HOOOOWWWEE! HE'S SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW!"

Oh geez.

It's going to happen. You just know it's going to happen.

It might not be Howe.

It might not be a screamer.

But if he gets drafted, and plays enough games, Dwayne will work out a way to work it into the commentary and he will say it.

The soundwave generated by the simultaneous collective groan of Fox Footy viewers will push the Earth off it's orbit.

I'm actually going to put this out there (and start a riot) i don't mind Dwayne Russell in fact i don't dislike many commentators there all alright in my eyes

Except there is one, whom i cannot stand at all and his name is Mathew Campbell

He's better than BT.

Or whenever he has a shot at goal: 'Is there a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Oh Baby! You bet there is!'
Or when he sells some candy: 'It's sunshine and lollipops from Rainbow!'
Or when commentators want to cast aspersions on a player's sexuality (probably after a tackle): 'Looks like he's wearing the Rainbow!'
Or if he's playing well in the wet: 'Rainbow: he's a sign from God! Rainbow breaking through the clouds!'
Or if he gets traded: 'He's worn all the colours of the Rainbow!'
Or if a fight breaks out: 'He's flying the Rainbow flag!'

Also on commentators: BT is far and away the worst. He wasn't too bad when he was on Fox Footy, or maybe it was just because I didn't have to listen to him each week, but over the past couple of years with 7 he's been painful.

He's actually not that bad on AW either - I think it depends on the team around him, but they keep it somewhat serious. 7 is painful because the producers have literally gone to Darcy and BT and said "Do what you did on Triple M but ham it up more". It reflects in their pregame (Mick Molloy?!) and is just plain awful.

Commentate the ****ing game.

See at least Der-wayne commentates.

Hell, I wouldn't mind Ox's play-by-play if he didn't stuff up the players every 20secs.
