Are you crazy?

What, go into the season with Fitzpatrick and Hogan?

FFS, some of you have rocks in your head. Dawes isn't perfect, but if he can just get out there for a full season he'll continue to shield the younger guys in their development by taking two defenders and maybe kick 35 goals on the way.

Giving up Miller worked so damn well in developing Watts and Cook (lol), didn't it? And Dawesy is better than Miller.

Miller was another NQR, he had spirit but no skill.

I hope like Christ St Kilda take Petracca.

I want the best pure midfielder in Brayshaw (who has superior foot skills i might add) and the best KPF in McCartin.

Also re: stretch from a few pages back. I asked over on the D&T board about who would nominate him to force us to take us at 22. The response was that Shifter had him as a mid to late teens pick and so one of the clubs in that range will force us to use it on Billy.

I thought it was strange Stretch was so high. Didn't have an amazing run at national champs, was very effective; wasn't an AA and hasn't been talked up anywhere as been a young star.

Only reason I thought 2nd round was way too high, and we have a tiny chance of drifting to 4th (albeit a miniscule chance)

Mid teens? If a club is willing to bid that on Stretch let them have him.
This. From what I've seen/read about him Stretch seems like a reasonable prospect, but he does have some big areas to improve in and will take a while to come on.

This was Shifters draft order, not mine. He must rate him, as do all the seemingly informed amateur recruiters on the D&T board.

A lot of them had Stretch late 2nd-4th round mid year - he hasn't really done anything to move up the rankings so I'm not sure why they've got him higher now.

You've got to remember that a lot of the time, these guys just want to be right - and if there are players they aren't too strong on or are unsure about they'll generally go with the trends.

The other alternative is that I'm wrong, which is also highly possible!

I get the feeling that Stretch is a good talking point as a F/S pick, and it's no fun to have him in the fourth round when it can generate talk about the 2nd.

He was AA at the Champs. Was in the bests almost every game for SA.

Getting into the All Australian team at the National Champs is "not doing anything" as well as being one of SA's best players?

Huzzah I'm not the only one!
Suggestions that he'll slip to us in the fourth round are ludicrous. The third round is possible given how low our second pick is, but I wouldn't be surprised if teams rated him in the top 20 players given his AA selection and the good performances he put in at senior level (for Glenelg?). Moves well, takes the game on and uses the ball pretty well. Defensive work rate is good too. We could do worse at 22.

I thought there were a couple guys here saying his performances for glenelg were pretty average

Though I've never seen anything of him
Was BoG v Adelaide reserves and put in quite a few other good performances. Was definitely ordinary in a lot of games but still showed enough in others.

Also Glenelg are awful (came last with 4 wins and were thrashed weekly) so it's not exactly an easy team for an undersized 17 year old to play in.

Lachie Weller looked good today. If we end up doing a similar deal with 2 or 3 as we did last year for Tyson and we can pick up something around 9 or 10, I'd be looking to draft him. Good chance he'll go earlier though.

Oh so Stretch will already be accustomed to that sort of performance. Lucky for him, he won't be disappointed if his expectations are low.

It wouldn't be the worst philosophy for our recruiters to take on IMO. Only take players who won't be appalled when they realise how bad we really are and what they've gotten themselves into.
