Saints are not going to trade back for an extra pick and Tutt.

With Pelchen in charge you would need to offer God and Jesus and hope that he's religious to even get a sniff at #1.

They'd be mad not to take it ... Way too much emphasis given on the number one pick .. Get 2 in top 6 and that's a far better outcome than 1 x number 1 ... I'd be filthy if we had the number one pick and didn't make that trade.... On the flipside, Bulldogs would never offer it. Saints would have to go to them with a sweetener.

McCartin supposedly has diabetes already.

Does anyone know if there are any significant risks associated with this?

No significant risk at all - but he will need to come to the bench 5-6 times per game for tests. Not ideal for a full forward, but a good rotation system would be worked out pretty quickly.

For anyone wondering about what type of player McCartin is, I personally look at him and see a bit of a cross between Jack Darling and Taylor Walker :thumbsu:

Also need a runner with a bag of lollies just in case.

5 or 6 times a game. Think once a month during the season, then once every 3 months during off season.
He knows what to eat/drink, and what not too. He will be fine.

I'm diabetic. I can answer any questions you have. I can tell you that it's not easy managing intense athletic activities - although it can be done if you have good control. Richmond's Dale Weightman had a very good career. It would be harder as a hard running player than a key position player. As a forward, probably not too bad. Midfielder who has to run all day - much more challenging to manage. If I were playing AFL, I'd be testing 5-6 times during a match, possibly more, definitely not less.

That's pretty much the situation I heard of McCartin.

It certainly hasn't swayed any of the recruiters.

One of the question marks on him are whether he would be able to play the CHF role in the way that say, Hogan can do it (repeat sprint leads back and forth to the wings). Currently he's really only been a full forward, which is pretty rare in today's game.

SANFL high performance manager and under-18s state coach Brenton Phillips on Billy Stretch:

He's the most professional player I've seen at under-18s level.

I know junior coaches and developers often give glowing remarks toward their players but this is quite the complement from a respected person in SA footy.

And after he's been (effectively) drafted?

At a guess Id say he ment that the guy wasn't just trying to help him get drafted
Bingo.
ah ok, yeah it's a good point ponsdale
Was a poorly phrased question as I didn't know when Phillips had made the comments on Stretch. I was hoping it was very recent and therefore would appear to be more genuine.

Ahh, ok. RandB just found the quote came from Trade Radio earlier today...

Anyone else fancy Connor Blakely? Seriously rate this kid, has it all IMO. Great inside game, good kick, pace and agility. Would take with 23.

I've liked him for a while. Would love him at 23 if we take a tall at 2 or 3.

Having said that, maybe we don't draft a tall. Get the best available mids in this years draft and back Hogan, Dawes and Fitz in 2015; then make a big play for Boyd (assuming a trade isn't done) or Walker or player to be named later this time next year.
