Obviously not going to name names.Let me say that I am reasonably confident that a final decision has not been made yet.

I've heard from a couple of sources close to the action the Saints are only about 60-40 leaning towards Petracca. They still may take him but it's no certainty at the moment.

Think he'll go top 30.

I understand that for the first time in while there is supposedly no clear cut #1 pick but I'm not one to worry too much about things that we (MFC) can't control.

Whoever St.Kilda take at #1 they take & we get the next two best players. We have gaps all over the field & our playing list so we take best available & our 'newish' development team set about ensuring that they become the players their respective draft pick used hopes they are worth!

Same goes with #40 & possibly #53, although they don't come with the same expectations, they should get the same opportunities.

Just have a funny feeling that whoever we draft at P3 will turn out to be a total dud. Brayshaw at 2 will probably turn out well, 53 will probably be better than 3, and 40 will get arrested on Boxing Day for setting Rolf Harris on fire at the MCG.

I doubt it. Got regular games when he was fit in the second half of the season and is a great club man, I don't think they'll cut him mid contract unless they offer him some deal like instant rookie elevation from Trengove on the LTI list.

Something that can't be overlooked IMO. Especially when it's that vs pick 53.

As previously mentioned I don't have a lot of knowledge of this draft but I was talking to my mate from GWS yesterday and I mentioned that I like the look of Rainbow, Langdon and Oscar McDonald (sentiment mainly). He was telling me that Rainbow will probably be gone well before 40 however McDonald and Langdon could/should be around at 40 & 53. He did say that whilst they would not be his 1st taken with those picks we could definitely do a lot worse.

Just wanted to know what people with more knowledge of the draft think of this idea? I see 40 and 53 as the type of picks that you can afford to go a little left-field with.

*I am pretty much basing my knowledge of these players squarely off the highlights on You tube

I suspect we've told him that he's going to be rookied - or we'll give him an extra $x.xx to just leave.

That would make him think pretty carefully I reckon. It would mean that within 12 months, he'd need to convince the club (or another club) that he's worth another contract - all from the rookie list. Or he could just take the cash now, go play country footy, and get a job.

One of the recruiters somewhere would have to have rated him as a junior to get picked up. He hasn't shown much since.

I think the whole debate revolves around how to get rid of him, not if he's worth a spot on either list.

He is probably weighing up whether to take say 150k to retire or move down to the rookie list an be on 60k ( or whatever it is )

This isn't jack watts or James frawley the kid will be lucky to see that sort of money in a calendar year again in his life

I think the club is pushing him out mate - its not about quitting, it's whether he wants to forgo the extra cash and hang around on the rookie list for 12 months in an environment where he's not wanted.

I would take the money if I was him.
