Talk on SEN was that maybe Alan Richardson has overruled their recruiting department and told them to go out and get McCartin, who would have the final say in all of this if the coach and recruitment team want someone different?
Usually the coach has some input, but it would be unusual for the coach to overrule the recruiting department.
It would be more likely that the recruiting department were swinging either way and leant towards Petracca, then Richardson may have said he has a strong preference to the key forward, which made the group happy to swing the other way.
I wouldn't want to be in charge of recruitment if a coach could just come in at the end and choose over the top of all your hard work - particularly with very early picks.
