If Fitz comes on a bit more we'll have at least 2 more talls than we can play at once. Dawes to Carlton for one of their small forwards.

Dawes is a leader, man amongst boys. Worth more to us than simply being 'a tall forward'.

He's also not that good. Brad Miller was a leader too.

Arguable. I'd rate him as one of our top 10 players (when fit), and a few others on this board would too.

Eh, i love his work rate but he's just a solid player. I'm not arguing for delisting him, I wan't to trade him for a good player at a spot where we have absolutely nobody outside of flankers that don't really have the skillset.

We wanted Dawes real badly last trade period, we went hard at him since other rival clubs also wanted him. He chose Melbourne as his preferred club of choice, and we got him. There's no way that we will trade him, I don't think anyone would want that to happen either. I for myself, have always been a Dawesy fan, it wasn't his year this year, but he will progress, especially with Clark.

Happy to trade Dawes off, but not for Garlett or Yarran (both garbage). Betts is the type we need but I'd hate to see him play for us because he's established Carlton filth.

Can't say I've watched Carlton too close this season. Yarran looked the good last season though. Betts too, maybe they got too far ahead of themselves. **** we need a proper small forward though.

Mark the ****ing idiot Neeld wanted him as a part of his grand plan. **** that guy and the horse he rode in on. I like Dawes well enough but he's on a good chunk of money and isn't that talented bugt should have decent currency on the market.

I agree with the Neeld part, he may think it was a great idea, but look where it got himself, and more importantly OUR club that we love so much.

I believe that when we have a stable midfield, us as a club will do fine. The likes of Dawes, Fitzy, Howe, Hogan, Clark, and Watts (if he doesn't go) will give us more time to show us what they have to offer for us in front of the goals.

We will be fine next year, we are in good hands at the moment.

Neeld was the one who wanted him, and he's gone. Liked Dawes first few games but then he got injured and when he came back he seemed off the pace and ordinary (like he was at Collingwood). Hopefully when he plays again next year he performs like he did in his first appearances.

I really do think he will. With an injury-free preseason, and if he's all fit and ready to go for Round 1, he'll be just like he was (2010 season).

Problem is that Dawes is on a 3 year expensive contract, if a club takes Dawes they also take his contract, not too many clubs would want to pay that sort of money for him.

Yup lets trade one of the few onfield leaders we have and guy who shows heart and commitment to the Melbourne football club for a flakey small player in the least important position on the ground ...

**** do you guys never learn ..

A small forwards ****ing useless when your only gettin 35 entries a ****ing game .. If small forwards are so important carlton should be premiers because they have 3 gun smalls

The number of inside 50s is a separate issue to the forward line structure. We know we need midfielders, but hopefully we get some in the trade and draft period, so we can also try and balance the forward line out.

We have a lot of tall forwards and we can't squeeze them all into the side. Your small forward also plays a hand in trying to keep it in the forward 50 when it goes in there (or should do), rather than having the lumbering big blokes chasing the ball down. When the ball hits the deck at the moment, 9 times out of 10 we're humped because we've got some combination of Dawes, Clark, Watts, Gawn, Fitz, a resting ruckman and a couple of our young mids with no tanks trying to keep it in there.

Also, let's not get carried away with Dawes because he answers a few questions from the press. If Clark stays fit and a few of the younger forwards develop, he gets squeezed out of our best 22 pretty soon.

And ****ity **** **** sweary bits yourself.

I suggested we look at him last year, and he's been invited to the draft combine this year - mature age small forward, Cain from Port Melbourne could be an idea..

Should be around with our 3rd or 4th round pick I would guess.

And to repeat what's been mooted already, Dayle Garlett might be worth the risk with our second rounder.

Midfielders the priority though - that's for certain.

We will be in a tough position if we get that priority pick and end up with #1 and #3.

Best available strategy seems to imply we will get another tall forward and a half back flanker!

Melbourne should stay well away from drafting any carlton scubbers.
Our best bet is the young rouge Dayle Garlett.

Not sure if Roos will go for Garlett, as much as we want it to happen.

I think we should trade Watts. **** him. I've stood up for him for 5 years, and for him to basically hold the club to ransom after he has achieved **** all in career so far is bullshit on his part. Don't let door hit you on the way out.

So I see a forward line of

Sylvia, Dawes, Howe
Hogan, Clark, and a small forward (Blease? Garlett? Yarran?).

Fitzy showed a bit this year, but he is still very raw. Give the kid some more time in the VFL. We need to create pressure for spots. Keep him around, swap him out with Hogan when the Hulk needs a week or 2 off. And if we get any injuries, Fitzy is a pretty good back up option.

On the Watts topic, I've been very against him, and fairly happy for him to leave, because it will put an end to this ongoing s**t talk. However, if, when Roos is announced coach, he could really give Watts the confidence to become a good player, and so now I'm not really phased whether he stays or goes.

As a Port Melbourne supporter, Cain would be very handy for us, VERY handy.

Garlett would be great for us too, but I can't see both of them coming to the Dees.

I'm pretty certain Roos will bandy Watts around at the trade table (as would I).

But I think hes still slightly under valued, so would only trade if we got a very good offer. I'd try for a direct swap with Taylor Adams perhaps.

Not what Roos said in his article about us mate, plus I'm not sure Roos will be offering too many of our players as trade bait unless they want to leave - won't create a positive environment early on.

I would guess that there would be a fair few delistees.

I would think Roos has taking a look at the list Over the year and he knows who he wants , I'm pretty sure he will stick with watts because he will back himself to turn him into a gun
