We shouldn't have got the pick in my opinion but one thing about this bothers me. The rationale that we will be able to trade Clark or that we will be compensated for Chip leaving.

I don't see what either of those things has to do with the awarding of a PP. One assumes we will be able to get a good trade and the other that one of our best players leaves. Assume Mitch goes and we can't get 'like' value or Chip leaves on the cheap or even stays. Hell what if Mitch stays retired?

Again, don't think we need a pp, just can't understand this part of the rationale as stated.
Don't try and understand decisions made by anyone involved with the AFL. I stopped after #freetrengove happened, had a brief hiatus when #tankgate happened and we got fined for being not guilty but am now firmly in the 'just expect the opposite of what is logical, based on their own rules' camp. Works really well for predicting MRP decisions too.

Are people here serious when they say pick 3 and 20 is enough for danger and Lyons

Over the last 3 years Danger has polled 66 Brownlow votes

Over the last 3 years the entire Melbourne team has polled 82 votes

Going by that formula he is worth about 79 percent of your list so we would want a lot more than pick 3 and 20 for danger and Lyons.

What do brownlow votes have to do with it? Priddis must be worth pick 1 if that's your reasoning.
If Danger refuses to extend his contract, you may want to trade him for something good this year, rather than potentially lose him for nothing if FA picks are abolished next year. Agree 3 and 20 is not enough though.

Firstly, you can keep Lyons, he's superflous to any team's requirements.

Secondly, the odds of Danger staying on at Adelaide beyond next year are slim. Adelaide will either take what they're offerred or lose him to FA. The other 17 clubs aren't problem solvers for your club just because you have a high value player possibly wanting out.

Pick 3 this year vs later compo next year, hmmm.

Melbourne have countless other options they could throw pick 3 at too so don't chest beat too long or you'll miss out.

Take the deal. If he stays and leaves next year you'll get something along the lines of pick 8-10 (FA compo).
Adelaide will try and milk everything they can for him but no way will melbourne give up much more when his bags are already packed.

20 is plenty for Lyons

Can't use Brownlow votes as a meaningful way of determining a player's value - umpires are notoriously clueless, fickle and feebleminded creatures. Let's stick to bread and butter statistics for comparison. Dangerfield averages 24.9 touches a game this season and Bernie Vince averages 24.1.

Going by that formula we'll swap you Dangerfield for Vince and throw Blease (10.5 possies a game) in to sweeten the deal. It's generous but we want to do the right thing by you guys.

I have reason to be very confident danger will remain a crow past next year so I don't take your opinion very seriously at all.

You are kidding your self if you think we will take pick 3 alone for danger... When we could get much better offeres from other clubs which is pointless because as I said I have reason to be very confident danger will remain a crow.

  • If you're confident he'll stay, why do you care what anyone here thinks about his worth?
  • Why do you care what anyone here thinks about his worth?
  • If they can get a better offer elsewhere, the Crows will take it. Unless of course Danger nominates his club of choice and bends Adelaide over as seems to be fashionable for players these days.

I'm not suggesting just pick 3 lol.

Simply saying of our first rounders I'd only part with one of them. Obviously it would take more than pick 3 to get Dangerfield. Pick 20 and players may come into it etc.

It'll have be similar to the Judd trade. Which was Kennedy, 3 and 20 for Judd and 46.

So we are looking at highly rated young player who hasn't had a real crack, our 1st, out 2nd for Danger and their 3rd.

Suggestion, not what I think/want... Looking at Toumpas, 2 and our 2nd for Danger and their 3rd.

and Judd was coming out of contract that year, fair enough before any free agency.

Judd was also a premiership captain and Brownlow medalist. I wouldn't be offering Toumpas with that deal, 2,20 and Tappy as steak knives

The Aints could easily overbid Melbourne if that is the best offer (effectively Pick 2, a Blease and a Tapscott => realistically being only Pick 2 for Dangerfield). And the Aints will be keen to get another big name on the list after all their exits and Riewoldt's impending retirement.

I don't think they'll be chasing Dangerfield though. They seem to be where we were 5 or 6 years ago betting the house on draft picks. Collingwood could trump us if they get pick 4 for Beams which they forward to Adelaide with pick 8. If we want Dangerfield, we're going to have to pay for him (assuming he even has a skerrick of interest in us).
