At the risk of sounding like Mark Neeld, I think we should offer all Geelong rejects a mandatory 3 year contract. Risk free list management. #culture
Why not? We're 2 years away from playing finals and by then we'll be the hardest team to play against.

Interested in George Burbury, Jordan Schroder and Jesse Stringer with the Cats saying they won't be getting new contracts, very interested in Stringer in particular for mine.
Burbury is the only one with potential I think, Schroder and Stringer aren't AFL standard - Geelong have been giving lots of young blokes chances, if they thought they had AFL ability they would have kept them.

Stringer is AFL standard definitely, would really like to pick him up.

I vaguely recall Shroder looking half reasonable a year or two ago. I think he was getting a run out in the back pocket or somewhere down there; hard at it and a reasonable kick. Geelong's backline has comprised Taylor, Lonergan, Rivers / Scarlett, Enright, Mackie, Bartel, Kelly, etc pretty consistently over the last 3 or 4 years, so it's been a tough place to get a gig.

Can we maybe stop looking at players delisted and deemed not good enough and thinking they're the solution?

They'll turn out to be the same middle of the road plodder they were at their original club.
100% with you on this, I know Roosy took players who weren't necessarily best 22 and made them good players or stars at the Swans - but I don't think he went after too many delisted guys, I know Kennedy, McGlynn and Mumford all had contracts on the table from their clubs.

I can't recall an instance of a player being delisted and then picked up by another club with any great success.

Eh, unlikely Gary Ablett is going to be delisted but that doesn't mean we can't give them a one year crack on the rookie list. Hardly a terrible waste of valuable resources. Also, for everyone suggesting we throw the kitchen sink at Dangerfield or some other gun, if a big move like that comes to pass and after committing a 2nd or 3rd round pick to Stretch, we're likely to or will be lucky to have one live pick in the top 50. I'd rather take a punt on Schroder or someone similar than keep a bloke on the list we'd otherwise ordinarily punt if we hadn't just given all our currency away for one player.

That Anthony Miles bloke looks alright so far at Tiggaland. I think Petterd has been pretty decent there as well.

Miles doesn't really count. GWS delistees are several steps us from that of other clubs. And Petterd was Neelded, we should never have delisted him.

Eh, I was tempted to go trawling for more but I couldn't be bothered. Anyway, for a very minor cost, it's worth a shot if we don't trade in any talent and we have spots to fill.

It's not just a spot on the list. It's time the coaches spend with them, time the senior players spend with them. With players who will ultimately go nowhere.

You mean like the bottom third of our list? It's optimistic, but I'd chance my arm on a recent Geelong reject instead of Evans, Nicholson, Blease, Strauss and co. If it only costs us a rookie pick, I can't see how bringing in a bloke who can't get a game in a good side is going to be any worse than keeping guys who can't get a game in a crap side.

If they're not good enough for Geelong they shouldn't be good enough for us.

Standards need to be increased.

Eh, if we're going to be using pick 90 or whatever in the draft I wouldn't mind if it goes towards a youngish delistee from a decent team. Would offer as much as state league guys like Georgiou, Terlich, M Jones etc. who, while no world beaters and at best only depth, can play reasonably well when required. We definitely need more highly talented players but our capacity to recruit them is limited by our number and rank of draft picks and how much we're willing to trade.
