I'd trade GWS' end of 1st round compo pick for Jack Watts - he could be the elite disposal chipscab halfback flanker/3rd tall that can seagull chaep possessions, and then be the linkup man.
He's more of a playmaker than linkup man IMO, he was responsible of starting the play for our first goal from half back with his risky kick into the center which started a chain.

That was one of the plays I was thinking of ... plan would be 'messy ball in backline, Toby gets the ball, shovel passes it to Jack who then pinpoints Kelly/WHE/whoever 30 yards away and we're off to the races'.

I've still got hope, given up defending him though because people will use him as a scapegoat regardless of what he does to protect their favourites.

Still only 23, there's still time.

Besides I'm of the opinion he either becomes a good player here or rots here, I'm not giving any other club the chance to turn into something good because they will.
There are plenty of talented players who take a long time to become really good.

Hawkins, Hansen, Goddard, Steve J, Griffen, Mundy, Westhoff - the last three taking until they were 26-28 to hit peak.

Hell at 23 Ablett was still a flashy forward pocket and Jobe was a turnover merchant.

People wanted Nathan Jones traded before 2012.

Even Gibbs... now he's playing good footy people try to tell me 'he was never soft', I just laugh.

Funnily enough if Gibbs goes back to being average next season he'll be called soft and lazy again.

One of the funniest for me is Hawkins, he plays about 80 games as a pretty average player then explodes and people go around talking like he was always a champ.
You can only compare him to Gibbs, Westhoff and Maybe Goddard in that group in that they were considered talented but soft
The others did things with intent before they became good

You could also say that for every Gibbs and Westhoff, there is a Colin Sylvia or Jarrad Waite

And Hawkins, he was definitely soft.

Yeah - agree, we'll see what Roosy does over the trade period.

As much as I got excited by the prospect I would be very surprised if any of Watts, Toumpas, Grimes or Trengove got traded

The only way would be if behind the scenes one of them isnt a hard enough worker and I dont know about Watts but the other 2 have been captains at some level

I'm expecting more of the same - trade high+low pick for mid-pick+player, sign a couple of low value players (ie Cross types) and try to bottom feed off GWS cuts.
What was the story behind miles? He seems to be having a more than reasonable year this year. Wonder if we can pick up someone like that.

Hunt's clearly AFL standard having played 63 games now and will be 24 so a good age to really start becoming a consistent AFL player.
While you guys are very good at developing players and have a much better culture than us and so forth, I don't think picking off blokes who can't get a game for you is a foolproof plan for success.

I was desperate for us to grab Miles last year. I guess we decided Michie and Riley had more upside as cheap inside mids. Hopefully they come good as well (and I have confidence they will)

If the dogs sign Mitch Clark as a delisted free agent like their board is talking about, I say we go burn down Whitten Oval and salt the field.
If he came back to Victoria and played for the Dogs id say something to him over the fence Id probably regret when Im older

Yeah, to be clear I would have no issue if Mitch decided he wanted to play but for WCE/Freo to be closer to his family and support structures. It'd hurt but whatever, if he comes back to Victoria, we want him, and he goes to someone else? Then he can get ******

It would be a pretty surprising move from Clark - given we have him a generous portion of his contract when he left, and have been providing ongoing support.

From what I understand it would be out of character from him as well.

Before anyone sooks about it I see a 0% chance he plays for the dogs
Even if it came down to money we could match anything they offer
And if it comes down to success why wouldnt he just stay in the west
