I'd probably get sucked in by his elite traits if it cost us almost nothing. Straight swap Hunt for Watts I'd consider. He is only 23 and maybe a different environment can completely turn him around. He's got enough elite talent that he's worth the risk of a list spot. But he's not worth a list spot instead of a top 20 pick which is what you'd probably want for him.
As tempting as a trade for Hunt is, I'd rather keep him on the 0.000001% chance that he does become a star.

Without putting any credence on this Clark to the Dogs rumour, I think Clark will play again, and it probably won't be for us, if only for the sake of his mental health. The guy is a good footballer and still pretty young - he will come out of this and play again.

It's not a rumour, it's just the Dogs board talking about KPFs they need.

I'm the opposite, I don't think he'll play again but if he did I can only see it being for us he loved the club.

Eh, if he does lace the boots on again, I would think it would be strictly against the doctor's orders to do so for us. Better to play for a much less stress-inducing club like Sydney or relax up on the Gold Coast.

What about the public backlash on him if plays somewhere else. If he comes back it'll be most likely us.

There is about as much chance of Clark coming back and playing for the dogs as there was for me last night with the 70mill powerball draw.

I couldn't find a thread on this specifically, but I wanted to discuss Free Agents to target, rather than who's getting picked off from our club (mods please merge is I've missed it).

If Chip goes then I don't want us to target a free agent, rather maximise the compo. But if he stays, with the cap space we have, and what's free now from Clark retiring I'd like us to throw a kings ransom at Nat Fyfe. Whilst his foot skill at times are questionable, he is elite in every other way.

A great idea might be to try and aquire the likes of out of favour players like Mitch Robinson and a draft pick for Jack Watts. Robinson would bring the hardness of a Nathan Jones and the ability to score goals off a half forward flank, something we clearly lack.

Wouldn't want him anywhere near our club.

a) Fyfe isn't a free agent, so we'd be better poised to go after him if Frawley DOES leave, with the compo + extra cap space
b) He's just resigned a contract earlier this year. Contracts don't usually mean much but he would have considered that teams will throw money at him before signing on.

While you guys are very good at developing players and have a much better culture than us and so forth, I don't think picking off blokes who can't get a game for you is a foolproof plan for success.

Shannon Byrnes
Tom Gillies
Im not sure those two a great examples of your point.

Shagga was about to retire till he got a godfather offer from Melb. FA
TG , requested a trades to Hawks. Knocked it back due to hoping he would still develop. In the end he was desisted for nought. Delisted FA

No matter what we the punters throw around as trade options , GFC really have been pretty loyal to their players. Hunt and Schroder would probably be much better chances of games at another club. Schrdoer won the B&F in the VFL last year. He can play. Hunt was a regular till he got injured. But time stands still for no one , my guess is Schroder will be delisted and Hunt a late pick trade. I cant see either being involved in a trade for one of your earlier picked player like Toumpas.

What you guys would get I have no idea but I really doubt you will like it.

I still have faith, I just know how it is with the majority of Melbourne supporters and Watts - a lot of people see him as a symbol of our failure and as such rip into him no matter if other players put in worse efforts than him (which they do), every thing he does (good or bad) is magnified under his scrutiny and I just don't see the point in arguing anymore.
Basically this.

It's also a shame that he's such a stand up guy; if he was just a shit bloke it'd be easier to hate him.

Sorry to intrude but it definitely wasn't brought up by a Dogs supporter - Clark hadn't been mentioned (as far as I know) until an opposition supporter that has been very reliable with random information about the club (two examples that come to mind are knowing that Johannisen would be dropped for the Gold Coast game due to a behavioural indiscretion a week out, and mentioning Minson's back issues before anything was publicly known) posted about it in our list management thread. I wouldn't be reading too much into it at this stage but the poster has been very good with info in the past. Definitely wasn't just a Dogs supporter throwing up names of random KPPs (although we do that a lot).

Either way I'm with a lot of you guys; would hope that if he is ready to return, it's for the Melbourne footy club.

So Schroeder won the vfl b&f last year bit you think he'll be delisted this year? What has happened this year?

Yes he was joint winner.

I rate him enough to have been surprised he has not been given more of a go , I think its just a fit issue. He is not super quick and we have been adding youth with pace , mainly...the odd player who is inside and one paced like GHS. Bartel, Kelly etc still have a couple years in them and now others have been drafted like Lang and Jansen and will probably be preferred. This week a kid from last year has been picked , a kid called Hartman. It was only weeks ago he kicked 4 goals in a VFL match. He is still early 20's. He will be a great get for someone.

My thinking is Geelong rarely do the dirty on players , and when the time comes to separate try their best to find a way to make it work. Delisting allows him to be a FA

My thing about Clarke is he should go ..if he comes back to footy.... to a club thats the best for him. Was mental pressure a part of the issue , big money at a bottom club? Would he be better at stronger club on more moderate money? He was WA guy , would he be better at Freo or somewhere? Either way would he be be a FA or would he have to go to the draft?

Clark coming back to the Dees would get nothing but love. It would be great for him.
Probably a question for those with knowledge , but its not just what he is given , its about how he feels. If he came out and said I only want to play for the Dees great. If he said Id like to play for a team where I can just be a part of a more mature group , and take a less prominent role , great.
Its what ever is the best for him and the AFL will have to take that into account.

No worries at all, but he can hand back his payout and some more if that's the way it is.

there was an interview with Dawes on radio during the week and he was asked about Clark returning and he said he hopes so, it's the main reason he joined Melbourne, but I'm pretty sure he said he'll have to enter the draft.

Its all relative, if a guy with that history says before the draft that he wants to play for melbourne.. No one will take the risk on him

He would be a ******* amazing pick up for you guys if it happened, I dont think I could bring myself to watch dogs games ever again but he was a star forward

Yeah, nah, I think you'll find plenty of clubs will be willing to take a risk on a talent like Clark who could turn their medicore forward line into a thing of beauty. The only question would be who would take the punt the earliest if he went into the national draft.
