This is the proposed best 22 I posted on the Suns board:

B: Broughton, May, Mckenzie
HB: Malceski, Thompson, Kolodjashnij
C: Harbrow, Swallow, O'Meara
HF: Martin, Lynch, Bennell
FF: Day, Dixon, Matera

R: Nicholls, Prestia, Ablett

INT: Rischitelli, Stanley, Hallahan
SUB: Shaw

Lemmens plays backline unless he is the sub so he wouldn't be competing with Hallahan. JOM is going to have a crap pre-season cos of surgery so he may play a different, lighter role next season.
I mentioned Lemmens because that's likely who he bumps out of B22, though I guess Malceski does that too.

Those you have him on the bench with, based on current ability would he ever be played/selected before them?

The difference at hawthorn is that Mitchell, Burgoyne and hodge will be gone in a couple of years whereas at GC their better midfielders will be there for the next 6 years, Ablett aside.

So I understand hallahans want to leave, but don't think it'll work out for him.
Ergo what I said between commas in the last sentence and the whole point I've been trying to make. :)

Pardon the intrusion.

According to 5AA, the rumour is the list manager asked the Adelaide forwards which of Cheney and Schoenmakers they preferred tto play on and the answer was (unanimously) Schoenmakers, so they went after Cheney instead.

Take that for what it's worth.
Cheney has played against Adelaide once across his total career. In that one game he played on 5'8" Ian Callinan, a mature age, late pick rookie draft selection who played only 26 games. I would've thought a defender who's played against them multiple times over the years and on some of their best power forwards no less would've been the better choice.

If that's the kind of flawed logic that Adelaide is making their recruiting decisions on then they should give us their first pick for Lowden as well. He averages 3 goals a game across his AFL career - as a ruckman!

Wright was asked after the recruitment of Frawley on Trade Radio whether the Hawk forwards gave any input into the recruiting; i.e. playing against him. Wright straight out said that they do not ask the players' opinions when recruiting opposition players.

I highly doubt Adelaide would have done this, and if they did - as mentioned previously - then no surprise that the couch got the sack, inmates running the asylum.

On current ability he may slip ahead of Stanley. It's hard with a guy like Hallahan cos you never know what he may do at a new club with more opportunity.

I know you guys must be getting sick of me asking about a player who is leaving but I promise last question!

Where do you guys see Hallahan's ceiling? I honestly have not watched a whole lot of him.

I personally don't rate him much and think if we can get a pick around #30 or better we should take it but others on here disagree

Drafted at pick.38 in 2010 and has had 4 seasons at the best club in the land who have been winning premierships. I reckon he has to be worth at the very least a 9 pick upgrade. Surely!
Add to that he is contracted, and happy to stay and fight for a spot
Also it's Suns who are doing the chasing!

Impossible to tell, lots of good skills, ticks lots of boxes but needs to show he's up to the pace of AFL.

What is it that puts you off him?
I like Boxer....really do. Sad to see him go IF he goes, but for pick 29 sounds about right really.

He is an above average inside player, not elite by any stretch, yet. Decent skills and decision making. Can get forward and kick the odd goal.

The knock on him is speed and endurance. Problem with Boxer and the modern game is that, after 4-5 preseasons, he still doesn't have the engine to run all day. This is important as he can't get to enough contests to impact a game. No use having an "inside" player who can't get to the contest and influence. Also, he is NOT a prolific ball winner. He doesn't rack up a lot of touches.

So you've got a good ball user who can't get to contests or win the pill. He may develop in time, but to be brutally honest, that's where he sits right now.
