So we're going to end up having around pick 17-20 + 35-40 in the draft, and these are the guys who in my opinion are untouchable currently on our list from a trade perspective;

FORWARDS
Roughead
Gunston
Breust
Rioli

MIDFIELDERS
Lewis
Mitchell
McEvoy
Hodge
Hill
Whitecross
Smith
Anderson
Shiels

DEFENDERS
Gibson
Birchall
Stratton
Litherland

I've listed these guys not only because they are the core of our next premiership side, but because for a lot of them, we won't get the value in picks for what they're currently worth.

These are the players not on my list that I reckon could have SOME trade value;

Suckling
Duryea
Cheney
Ceglar
Schoenmakers
Lowden
Simpkin

I personally would love to see us acquire some talented young midfielders from sides that have an abundance (GWS!), and here's a very short list.

Dylan Shiel - age 21 - Contracted for 2015
Stephen Coniglio - age 21 - Contracted for 2015
Lachie Witfield - age 20 - Contracted for 2016
Adam Treloar - age 21 - Contracted for 2015
Matt Buntine - age 21 - Contracted for 2015
Will Hoskin-Elliott - age 21 - Contracted for 2015

Can anyone put together a trade scenarios for any of these guys?

Dylan Shiel for me is the one we should be targetting above all. Brute of a footballer, and is the kind of player you can build your side around for a decade. Reportedly wants to leave the Giants, it's just whether we can organise a trade for a player where literally every other club would be in for.

I'd love it if Wright could make this happen over the trade/draft/free agency period

Trades:
Dylan Shiel > Pick 18 + Ryan Schoenmakers
Matt Buntine > Pick 35 + Suckling + Lowden

Free Agency:
James Frawley - 6 years $650,000
(I'm tempted to go after Higgins, but it's probably best we keep it stashed away for the 2015/16 period when a LOT of stars are becoming available)

IN:
Dylan Shiel
Matt Buntine
James Frawley
Pick 55 (I'd expect a prospect KPP)

OUT:
Pick 18
Pick 35
Ryan Schoenmakers
Matthew Suckling
Luke Lowden

Starting 22 2015

FB:
Litherland - Frawley - Stratton
HB: Buntine - Gibson - Birchall

MID:
Mitchell - Lewis - Shiel
MID: Hill - McEvoy - Smith

HF:
Rioli - Gunston - Breust
FF: Burgoyne - Roughead - Puopolo

INT:
Ceglar - Anderson - Shiels - Hodge

Reserve:
Whitecross - Duryea - Cheney - Lake - Hale - O'Brien - Langford - Spangher - Simpkin - Kelly - Grimley - Hallahan - Woodward - Hartung - Sicily

On the back page of the west Australian today it was saying the weagles are looking at lowden, interesting
Gaff is developing nicely for a 20 -21 year old. His contested side of his game has really improved.
All I hear from West Coast supporters is how shit Priddis is and how far backwards Gaff has gone since his first year. Admittedly I don't watch more than like 5 West Coast games a year, but whenever I do Gaff has looked the goods.

Lowden + first round for Gaff please.

You can have two veterans on the main list increasing main list size from 38 to 40. It takes away two rookie spots. We have three, Hodge, Sewell and Mitchell. Say if Sewell retires, Hodge and Mitchell would be the two veterans taking the extra main list spots and a list spot will open inside the non-veteran 38.
Ah righto, that makes sense

I'd take Gaff + their 1st Rounder for Lowden, but I'd want a swap of 2nd Rounders to sweeten it. I think we need Shuey a lot more than a Gaff-type.

I wonder what Xavier Ellis would cost us?

Hey Guys,

Just want to let you know if you dont already I was having a chat to my boss today and he told me you guys have been chatting with Jack Lonie as a potential pick up. My boss is a family member of Jacks and says that you guys, richmond and GWS are all interested.
Hawthorn would talk to many, many juniors. Doesn't mean they want to draft them or whatever.

Trading both upcoming ruck men, especially Ceglar? That will definitely leave Hawks with no ruck depth with Hale definitely at the end of his AFL career.

I'm not saying we should trade everyone on that list, im saying those are the players outside of the untouchables that will have trade value.

Li'l bit - glad you picked up on it rather than taking it seriously :D

Of course Lowden doesn't = Gaff + WCE's 1st, but Gaff isn't nearly worth our 1st + Lowden either.

WCE need Draft Picks a lot more than we need Gaff. He's Dal Santo-esque. With the retirements we'll have over the next 2 years, he'd be a high-cost frustration when we can't get the ball away from clearances.

Yeah but they need need midfielders more than they need either our first round or Lowden. I really rate Gaff, he just needs to be persevered with while he learns to cope with a tag (shows the talent he has that he's getting one at age 21). Can't imagine Simpson will be willing to let him go on the cheap.

Personally I am not sold on Frawley at all.

I don't watch alot of Melbourne games, but the ones I have he has looked more of an average 'filler' player than one of their standouts.

This may be because he is playing in a sub standard/young team, but I am still not convinced.

I might make it a habit to watch Melbourne for the remaining rounds and reassess...

Hale doesn't have much longer I imagine. McEvoy is an untouchable but I'd also say that one of Ceglar and Lowden are also. I'd even go so far as to say they both are given we're unlikely to get much for either of them and we need the ruck depth.

Someone that's a cross between Ablett, omeara, fyfe, Mitchell, cotchin and Dangerfield please.

Plenty of young players in that calibre to be available come our pick I suspect :)
Mercenary nature like ablett
Choke on the big stage like fyfe
Turnover merchant like dangerfield
Pace of Mitchell

Might be a few like that...

Nice work, if only it was that easy. If you read a bit through the Dylan Shiel is on all of our wish lists, facts are we probably don't have enough to get him and what you proposed has no chance of being accepted. GWS would want Breust in any deal from us and that's something we won't entertain.
