List Manager can you clarify if this years draft is deep with talent? I heard earlier in the year it was amazing and am starting to hear by some that it isn't actually anything special.

This draft is elite from 1-12 or so and then very even through the late first round to 3rd rounds. It's the year to nail good kids with your first two picks as the next 2 drafts are weakfish.

As for names we are keen on, you can't be confident of landing any of your priorities with a late first rounder but the two I have heard a bit of chat around are Lachie Weller and Tom Lamb with Lamb the most likely to still be available. It would not surprise me to see the club trade away it's first pick OR trade in another late first round/second round pick. It all depends on if any of their targets are deemed gettable and at what expense.

A question that may well arise come trade time is how much longer the club will be patient with Ryan Shoenmakers. He has trade value.
Would love to see Hawthorn try and deal with Nathan Brown in any potential trades with WCE! Package up Schoey and Lowden and some swapping of picks for Brown and Gaff. Although with the Eagles midfield being so thin, I can't see them trading away one of their most talented.

Hope we can make a case to Lowden to persevere with us. Would hate to see him leave after having invested so much time and development, and with him seemingly just about to bear fruit.

Here is a thought.....

Given the emergence of Litherland as a Half Back Flanker/ Third Tall type in Defence and the need to add quality to our midfield what about this trade.

Stratton and our 1st Round Pick to Eagles
for
Schuey and there 2nd Round Pick to Hawks

We can even chuck in Grimley or Lowden in there as well to get the deal done.

Stratton is originally from WA and hopefully with a 2nd medal around his neck a move home might be appealing.

Schuey is a VIC boy and when you include him, Shiels, Langford, Woodward, Hallahan and Jed Anderson in our centre rotation we have the young guys to replace Hodgey, Mitchell, Burgoyne and to a lesser extent Sewell when they retire in the next few years.

With Cox retiring WCE could do with a back up ruck for Nick Nat and Grimley and Lowden could be handy for them. Plus we have McEvoy, Hale, Ceglar and one of the other two remaining for next year which is enough depth in the ruck.

This could favour both sides.....
Why don't you throw in Clarko as a sweetner, that should get the deal done!

That's 12 gone.
If we get rid of 12 we start cutting guys like Spangher & Cheney. We need guys like that to play 10 games per year - especially if we're relying on guys like Lake to play another year.
Ah! We're rebuilding. I wish someone told me.

Our history suggests we are VERY patient with players coming back from severe injuries. Particularly when they have shown so much promise prior to the injury.

Hmm..don't know about that. Not being facetious, but I honestly believe Langford and Anderson have showed more in the very early stages of their career, than Schoey has in 4-5 years as an AFL footballer. I really want him to succeed, but I've just about reached a point where I've lost all belief.

Shoey's age and versatility is what makes him a keeper for me
Whilst not a natural defender, he can at least pinch-hit there when required, even during a match, and that's what makes him a valuable player
He ain't never gunna be Glen Jackovic though!
At the moment he would be lucky to match Alan Jackovic

The amount of stupid optimism surrounding the GWS talls is amazing. Carlton posters seem to think they have GWS over a barrel because Boyd is contracted this year but not next so they'll need to trade him early or lose him for less...WHEN HAS THAT EVER OCCURRED!? Sweet jebus people worry me.

Melbourne and the Saints have an abundance of butchers and a dearth of forward targets on their respective lists. What would Suckling and Schoenmakers net us as a package from these two teams?

I will say I'm a fan of both and believe without Schoey this year we could have been even more exposed down back but I believe we need to give up some quality and players who would immediately add something lacking to the teams we are trading with.

The way Shoey is rated on these boards.........what makes us think that we will get anything of substance if he is traded out.

So far he's incompetent on gorilla's in defence, lacks speed and agility and is a natural forward that can't play forward.

Shoey for Dangerfield should get the deal done.

Seriously just keep him, he's worth more to us than we would get in return.
