Lowden, Kelly, Grimley and Wanganeen. In my opinion none of those players will be at our club next year. There's been some talk about Hale perhaps retiring this year, even if that were to happen, that would still mean Lowden would be third on the pecking order behind McEvoy and Ceglar and he would still be outside of the best 22 fighting it out in the VFL. If I was Lowden I'd be seeking a trade to a team who need a forward/second ruck that can guarantee him plenty of game-time. West Coast and Port Adelaide are two clubs who are going after Lowden. For what it's worth trading him at the end of this year might not be such a bad thing overall as we could end up getting something in return that could benefit our club whether that's a draft pick or a ready made player.

Luke Lowden will get plenty of game time at Port.
We have a 3rd tall fwd spot currently used by the likes of Paul Stewart (191 cm utility) and Sam Gray (midget).

Who did u end up getting with that pick we gave you? Bradley Hill?
Only 21 and already has a flag under his belt. Good trading/drafting on your part.
Clarkson's cunning plan to net Renouf a premiership early in his career clearly paid dividends. ;)

Exactly. In first year after knee reco his value is at bottom as he has not shown he can be as quick and agile as before the knee. Even in his current state he has value to us that we can't really replace.
I find the whole Shoemakers debate quite tedious.....even though I'm quite outspoken regarding my opinion of him.
I think the club is responsible for his current plight. They have persisted with him as a defender for far too long, circumstances may have contributed to this ie; injuries to other personnel or not having the personnel list wise. But sometimes you just have to come to the realization that not all forwards make very good KP defenders. We have bulked him up thinking that if he was strong enough physically he wouldn't get man handled, but there is more to playing KP defense than strength, his ability to read the play in the air, the ability to be proactive rather than reactive in a defensive contested position, the understanding of how to use your body to protect the ball from your opponent....You don't have to be the strongest KP player to achieve this.

Shoey's bulk has rendered his speed and agility to very average, his knee injury has also played a major part.

Trim him down this pre season greater emphasis on his speed and agility work and play him as the high half forward/wing that pushes deep inside forward 50 that he was always destined to be. As a kid he had flair, agility, an amazing aerobic capacity along with the height that made him a difficult match up.

Is our current ruck depth under threat already with Hale's decline and speculation that we could lose Lowden.
In the past we have covered our lack if ruck depth on the rookie list. What chance we add Grimly to our rookie list.
I am not convinced he can play in the ruck so would be unlikely for mine but interested in the thoughts of others.

Do we need Schoey as a forward.....we have Roughy and Gunston as our main forwards, plus Hale/McEvoy/Ceglar and TOB. With the chorus of BF experts growing, should we be consider packaging him with our first round pick to ser what we can get. As a forward he may be of more value elsewhere, but has added value as a 2nd tall defender.

Could we upgrade our first pick into the top 10 and pick up a genuine KPD.....or trade to get a 21 year old up and coming mid. All comes down to needs.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box. I for one hope we keep him and he shows everything he is capable of. Unfortunately many on here only see the mistakes but miss the good work he does for the rest of the game.

I might post something on the trading board and see what people from other clubs think

I've generally disagreed with your opinion/position on Schoey to date but there's no doubting that this is a very well thought out & articulated post.

Thanks for the interesting read & perspective!

We have sold him up the river at times....he is not a KPD, but def suited to a 2nd key defender role. Unfortunately he has often been thrown in the deep end with no support so I think we owe him a little more than to just be put out with the weekly trash.

He definitely adds value and versatility to our list.

I still think there are fish in that Sea, GWS have to cull again this year and Sydney will begin to feel the squeeze. I feel like Wrighty has an ACE up his sleeve.
