Looking at that, I'd expect us to win approximately 16-17 matches which puts us top 4 again. Its hard to predict because we'll be alittle inconsistent IMHO due to more inexperience flowing into the team. So I'm going to say 4th.

So hard to tell at this stage, dont want to get the old hopes up, but cant see us finishing outside the 8 with a more 'favourable' draw.
id say bottom half of the 8 with 12-15 wins.

You guys are nuts.

Qualify please.
How people can suggest bottom of the 8 or 12th is beyond belief.

Anything can happen, but there's no way it's a logical prediction.

They finished 2nd this year and coughed and spluttered through the entire season.
They and we should expect to be better next year.
I'm not saying higher on the ladder, I'm saying there should be more definitive victories.

We should all expect the ruck issues to be solved.
We should all expect Hawkins to be fit.
We should all expect the kids to improve. And that includes people like Duncan and Christensen.
Older players such as Bartel and Kelly dropping off a bit does not bother me.

If we finish 8th, something will have gone horribly wrong.

Let me explain my prediction of 12th vc,to start with I'm un convince all the bolded will occur and be the norm for the whole season.
I also think if we start to lose a few games especially early in the year and fall off pace 2014 may become a year of experimentation for the Cats, hence my comment somewhere else about seeing a false bottom and some earlier draft picks next year.
All just pure speculation of cause, but that's how I'm reading the tea leaves in November, would of cause been easier to have gone top 4 and banked a few likes but I'll leave that to others.

You really think next year we are going win half the amount of games we won this year?

We'll know where we are at after the bolded - win all of 'em, then we'll be top 2 for the rest of the year. But with some bad form, luck and injury, we could lose the majority of that run and be well be out of the eight, and playing catch-up to make finals.

Question with notice: Of the players who departed at the end of season 2013 (Corey, Hunt, Chapman, Podsiadly & West) whose absence will have the most profound impact in 2014, in your opinions?

For me, I think it will be JPod. He has an aura about him - the way he contests marks / crashes into packs. These qualities will be sorely missed, particularly if Hawkins is restricted by the back injury in any way. In 2013 he played as much up-field as in the goal and still managed 30+ goals.

Chappy didn't play enough games in '13, ditto West and Hunt. Corey will be missed, but can be covered by the likes of GHS, I hope.

Why I pose this question is because I think where we end up on the ladder may depend on the answer to the question below and how we cover that loss.

Thoughts?

After watching a few games on replay recently Corey by far. Pods didn't really have much impact - I think part of the problem was that he was forced to do a lot of the running that Hawkins would have otherwise done. There are more options to cover Pods than Corey too. Agree with your sentiments on Hunt, Chappy and West.

Chappy will be missed the most.
And I reckon he was missed this year.

which one of those five pretty much got us over the line in our finals win against port? if it wasnt for him we would have been out in straight sets. answer this to answer your question.

Interesting.

Josh Hunt - didn't miss and won't miss at all. No reflection on him, it's actually a good sign we're able to move forward without him.
Corey - will miss slightly, but in reality was in clear decline, his disposal had dropped as had his leg speed and awareness. Retired at exactly the right time.
West - will not be missed if Simpson is fit. Will be missed if he isn't.
Chapman - definitely will be missed.
Pods - will be missed although slowing down as a player.

I have to be honest, I think Pods will be missed more than anyone else. I don't think people fully appreciate the work he would put in during a game, constantly presenting up and down the ground all game long. Neither Vardy nor Walker nor Kersten come close to providing the output Pods was still managing in 2013, and I hope some are ready for the fact that they most likely won't be there in 2014 either.

He's one of the unsung heroes of our 2013 campaign. Probably the right decision to move him on, but we don't have a ready replacement yet.

It's only a prediction, the question I ask myself is this, would the club see finishing say 6th or 7th be better long term than finishing as I predict 12th getting lots of games into the kids and maybe with some shrewd trading, pick up 2 picks in the top 20 at the draft in 2014.
Chris Scott alluded to this in a presser shortly after the P/F he fielded the proposition, would it be better to finish out of the top 8 the next couple of years or words to that effect although he made it clear he didn't expect that's the way they would go.
None the less a strange off the cuff comment.

Somewhere between 1st and 18th...lol

Pods will be missed most, I'm tipping Chappy to break down, I personally think he is done and the club knows it.
(And by 'done' I mean his body is shot)
